In this video I describe a technique for killing invasive knotweed with herbicide in Late Fall or Winter when the knotweed is dormant. This technique could be called a “cut rhizome” treatment. UNFORTUNATELY, the technique didn't work. I tested just 5 clumps but saw no benefit from this treatment.
I am leaving this video up. Our other videos still provide great guidance:

Bundle, cut, brush is common for phragmites Similar to knotweed, except you need to cut in spring and treat in fall for uptake

Yes, I think that makes sense for knotweed too. If there is any risk for off-site movement, to bundle the cut stems if they are green.

I just edited the title and description of this video. The technique described here did not work. I checked back at the site and saw very little benefit from using this technique of treating dormant knotweed by doing a cut rhizome treatment.

@@GreenShootshave you had the chance to try to Thermo-Electric the knotweed? I have seen videos from England where they use RootWave Pro to electric cute the whole rhizome , it looks very promising.

Sounds like a promising tek. Now that summer is here I'm very interested to hear how effective your test treatments were!

HI, something similar has been tried in the UK, using ecoplugs (plugs with glyphosate on). It was part of a manufacturer's research programme in Wales, don't think anything has been published about the success or otherwise of the research, but the idea was similar giving an option for winter treatment.

Brian, Thank you! I am going to check into the ecoplugs and see if I can find anything. All the best!

We had a 150 ft by 40 ft patch. We removed the knotweed and then injected 41% glyphosate directly into the cut stem. Everything is clear right now except we have some small 6 to 12-in plants starting to grow back up. We plan to treat them with 6% glyphosate. I was told that that will disguise the glyphosate so that the plant accepts it

Big patch! I am unsure what you mean when you say: "We plan to treat them with 6% glyphosate. I was told that that will disguise the glyphosate so that the plant accepts it."

I’m considering buying a flat with a garden that has knotweed. It is in its first year of treatment. Is there a hope for a garden after treatment to become a beautiful garden again? I know I won’t be able to do anything until treatment is done and I get a green light from a specialist but is there a hope for native plants growing there one day?
@GreenShoots
@GreenShoots Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It may be hard to totally eliminate the knotweed, but you can control it so that it has no impact on your native garden and is largely invisible unless you are looking for it. In the years after you control 99% of the knotweed, just be sure to periodically check the garden for straggler knotweed plants.

Have you tried about 800 volts d.c. with bulldog clips dug into each live stem just above ground for about ten days ?.

I am a single mother who saved for 10 years to buy a home. An entire acre of my 1.5 acres is knotweed. I did not know what it was when I bought the property which I take full accountability for. I feel completely helpless and hopeless. Any advice is welcome. I would love any advice at all and to know how this method has worked for you.

Haley - It can be controlled! Check out our video: "Control a Large Stand of Japanese Knotweed in 4 Phases," kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7KfZZuerc3OeGQ.html Can you do this kind of work yourself? If you plan it right, that one acre could be done in 10-20 hours or less than 5 hours by someone licensed. This current video above is intended for cleanup work after a treatment or for smaller patches. For any restoration, the key is getting native plants planted after the treatment.

Best thing to do is call a pro. Next best thing is get a machine like a bull dozer. And level that area out to where you can mow it. Then mow it weekly. The grass will take over and the knot weed will not get out of control
