I used to chart to CYA, then eventually times changed and a lot of our patients need to placed in long term care, only problem is if they see our charting and how difficult these patients are, they will decline taking them. So as a result management has been strongly, and I mean strongly encouraging staff to chart as little as possible, especially if they are “difficult”. So where does that leave us, well I’ll tell you. With a big ol target on our backside. I’m currently looking for stage left.

Awesome interview but it also makes you think twice about nursing profession it’s has become a profession that can strip you from everything by a simple mistake that didn’t cause death , no loss to the facility etc…. No wonder why many are leaving, it’s a very mentally anguish profession.

There a couple things that this lady said that aren't really correct. All I will say about that is that one should be aware that 'the law' is not any one thing and that much of it varies in different states. This is also true of Nurse Practice Acts. Some boards of nursing are notoriously adversarial and you don't want to appear before them on your own if they ever call you to appear to answer a complaint, no matter how good you think your case is. You need your own professional liability insurance and your own attorney. Nursing isn't really a 'profession' anymore, but a function. I follow this channel because this dude's approach to it is realistic: it is a stable career to be in and you can earn good money from it. In nursing you learn very early to ALWAYS watch your back and always be on the lookout. So many go into nursing thinking only about the money and not about the rest of it. Yes, the money is good but as you saw in this video you always need to be aware of things that can jeopardize your license. The suits who run the corporations that own these hospitals and nursing homes are all vampires, and if you get on their bad side they will screw you. Worse than that are your fellow nurses...many of them will screw you too. As a nurse you are often put in impossible situations and then blamed when bad things happen. You will often be working short staffed, with broken equipment, and without certain resources needed to do your job. You take bullying and abuse from patients, other nurses, family members, other nurses, physicians, managers, and did I say other nurses? Yes watch out for other nurses especially. Many of them are narcissistic bullies who love to form cliques, gossip, and try to stir up things to get you in trouble if you don't fall in with them. You can be cordial with them but keep in mind that they are not your friends. Keep your relationships with them professional and don't tell them your business. I think that if you're going to do this job you must have a little empathy and a LOT of patience, endurance, and toughness. Its hard work and much of the time very stressful. You earn every penny they pay you so don't take low-ball offers when you interview for jobs. Get the overtime when you can and make your money...lots of it. And when you make that money don't go spend it all on a big house, or a new car, or designer stuff and trips. Pay off your student loans and get out of debt. Save and invest your money, and plan to retire early. Many good nurses leave because after a while they just burn out and get over it. I would not discourage anyone from pursuing nursing as a career. You just have to go into it with both eyes wide open. Every job comes with its own set of issues. At least with nursing you can earn enough $$$ to make it worthwhile.

Patient abandonment happens when you Take report and leave without Giving report. @20:30 mark
@mekichey129
@mekichey129 Жыл бұрын
Job abandonment is a nurse leaving PRIOR to taking report. A nurse is within the Nurse Practice Act to Leave BEFORE taking report at their discretion. A piece of paper stating your objection to an assignment will NOT hold in court... @20:30 mark

@NursesToRiches Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply but if it were me I would not take that position. This is your first job, to take a position as a relief nurse would set you up for failure because relief nurses should already have experience and be able to identify when patients are in need of immediate life-saving interventions.
