Awesome video, I love Jeff S videos but sometimes I don’t fully understand them, yours with the diagram makes a lot of sense. I’m on Ontario Canada. Is slashing just logging or cutting down a sections of trees?
@swostillwateroutdoors

Thanks!! Yeah his content often is the concept or idea, but not practically applied to a diagram. Recently he has been doing more diagrams which is helpful! Yes, it is referring to a logging operation cutting down trees! Thanks for watching!!!

I like Jeff a lot. He has great content. Problem is he is mostly northern deer experienced and centric. Half of what he recommends doesn’t even grow in the deep south. Southern deer are a bit different in habitat preference and browse/diet consumption for example.

Do you have a strategy for picking a spot for your gut pile?
@swostillwateroutdoors
@swostillwateroutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question I have never been asked!!! Usually I just gut them where I find them, because dragging that extra weight is a pain, but if you can get a wheeler back in to the buck it might not hurt to either gut offsite or put it in one of the far corners! Keep it as far from the hub of deer activity would be my thought!

Its an irregular shape but has some features that you can create like access points and topo features. Do you have maybe 10min to look at the plan i have come up with via email? I can send all the info on the parcel and the surrounding area. Getting a second opinion has been like pulling teeth.

It helps to know WHICH tree species to hinge cut too. Hinge cutting a species of tree your regional deer don’t care to eat the leaves of is rather useless.
@swostillwateroutdoors

Deer don’t need water actually, water dosnt attract deer, deer get most of their water intake through most of the things they eat, now if you want to set up watering holes then that is perfectly fine but you don’t need water, if you have a small river or something that is hard to freeze during the winter time then that could be good because deer don’t have as much water during the winter but you don’t need it
@swostillwateroutdoors
@swostillwateroutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Great point to make! Vegetation provides them a huge amount of that resource! Also depends on how wet an area is, if there is water everywhere then it might not be much of a draw, in a dry sandy area a water hole might be really effective! Winter def can be a tricky time for water!

@@realitywhitetails2024 Nah I know what he means. Deer “hunting” is tracking, stalking and killing a deer as you MOVE through the woods. Like native American Indians once did. Deer ambushing is killing deer over food plots, mock scrapes and water holes. You sit and wait for them. Personally, either way works and puts food in the freezer though the former requires more skill than the latter.
