An important note to add is that NOBODY was truly aware of the events depicted in Killers of the Flower Moon until the book came out. Why? Because those who wrote history chose to ignore and hide it like nothing ever happened. I’m an Oklahoma Choctaw, I grew up there, and these stories were never told or talked about as part of the state’s history. The same thing happened with Indian boarding schools and other events, like the Tulsa Race Riots. It’s only been in recent years that things started coming out - there’s always been a weird kind of cover up, all born under shame and humiliation. Finally, the truth is coming out.

William Hale in this movie is one of the most evil and intimidating characters I’ve seen in fiction, and he was real. Amazing movie.

Thats what the point is. They didnt want to make a white savior movie. Thats why its focused more in the beginning. Dicaprio changed parts so it would be about the osage.

I read the book. I was absolutely floored with what happened. Being Sioux Indian I'm not even shocked.

Nailed this review! Even if you did slightly call me out for being one of the few who didn’t mind the runtime. Also, you did mention a lot of the tone but I think the movie had us laughing more than many expected!

Hell yeah, glad you really dug this one! I would've been shocked if this film ended up being a misfire. The whole team behind this project always puts out top tier movies, and it doesn't seem like that's changing anytime soon. Cannot wait to see it next week. Great review, Tony!

My fave Scorsese? I have a personal affection for "The King Of Comedy" and "After Hours" and both "Goodfellas" and "Casino" but the greatness of "Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver" (and "Mean Streets") are nothing to sneeze at. Ditto "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "The Last Waltz" and the first half of "Cape Fear". Liked "The Irishman". I actually haven't liked any of the stuff he's done with Leo, even though I love Leo in lots of other movies he's made over the same time span (Revolutionary Road, Catch Me If You Can, the two Tarantinos). But he looks FANTASTIC in this movie. And so does De Niro. I did not know that they both speak the native language fluently! That brings me right back to De Niro's first Oscar winning performance, "Godfather Part 2", where he did the entire role in Italian, a language he did not speak. Most influential actor of his generation, no matter how people try and bring him down (a relatively recent phenomena).

Maybe Marty should have put a hobbit in “Killers” or had Nolan pop up in a scene. Then people wouldn’t be acting like a 3-hour plus runtime is some impossible task to ask an audience to undertake. Nolan puts out a 3-hour movie where 45 minutes is a security clearance hearing, the internet is “ZOMG! Take my money!” Scorsese puts out a 3-hour movie, the internet is “ZOMG! Nobody can sit still for that long! Nobody’s ever even been alive that long!”

killers is only 12 minutes longer than titanic. Noone whines or complains about that film's runtime EVER!

That’s actually really funny. The Titanic was notoriously long ,when it came out in theaters and on VHS. It was so long, it had an intermission, and it came on 2 VHS tapes. And to think, this movie is even longer. Wild!

@@ImpressiveTony i saw Titanic earlier this year in theaters when they re-released it. Some people brought their little kids to it. They didn't seem to care about whether or not their kids can endure that runtime.

@@ImpressiveTony I saw Titanic in the theater. Twice. They’re wasn’t an intermission. And Titanic wasn’t notoriously long. You’re talking about a time when folks lined up to see Braveheart, Schindler’s List, Casino, JFK, Dances With Wolves, Malcolm X, etc.

I can enjoy long movies no problem. The length of this, and specifically whats depicted in that extra length, had me losing my feeling and sympathy with the characters. Like he was pandering to a concept. I remember wanting it to move along, so i could see more plot points evolve.

Wow, fav Martin Scorsese movie? That's a tough one. For me it's prolly Casino. And that is a long movie and a great one. Taxi Driver is another one of my favs from Scorsese. I'm still deciding over the two lol Great review! You are a great film critic

I flip flop between Taxi Driver and The Departed a lot. Taxi Driver hits me deeper but I have more fun with The Departed. King of Comedy is up there for me too

The bathrooms are going to be packed with audience members who decided to "hold it" for almost 4 HOURS (trailers included). I'm sure I'll enjoy the film but gawd damn! I remember when movies with a 2-hour runtime were unheard of, now that's the standard. Avatar 2, The Batman, The Irishman, now KOFM. Sheeesshh😓

When were movies with a 2-hour run time unheard of? When I was in high school and college, we watched flicks like Casino, Heat, Braveheart, JFK, Schindler’s List, Scarface, Dances With Wolves, Titanic, Private Ryan, Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, etc. it was fairly common to have at least one or 2 big movies per year clocking in at or past the 3-hour mark. And in my parents’ day, they were even longer. Shoot, musicals like “My Fair Lady” and “West Side Story” were 3 hours. They told me back then, their theater either showed big sprawling epics or double features of 2-regular length movies, but spending 4 hours in a theater was almost expected.

Hey ..have been following your reviews for quite a while and really enjoyed them...i have a little suggestion..how about you try reviewing an Indian film? It will be a new experience and u might actually like it...for starters I would recommend Rocky aur rani ki prem kahani for a rom - com or pathan for an action packed film

I'm not saying anything against you, but I find it amusing that you said this movie was too long then said The Wolf of Wall Street is your favorite Scorsese movie. There's only a 24 minute difference between them

I mean, almost half an hour is a big difference for me, but yeah. Scorsese does tend to make long movies. It’s also an issue of pacing. For me, the first act was disproportionate to the second and third.
