If you love cinema as much as I do a movie like Killers of the Flower Moon is heaven. I knew going in that it was 3 and a half hours long but I was so immersed in what was going on that the running time didn’t even matter. Because the movie was absolutely mesmerizing in every conceivable way. Plot, acting, writing, cinematography, and especially directing. Scorsese has been directing films for 6 decades and he hasn’t lost a step. Most directors in the twilight years of their career fall off and the quality of their films deteriorates but not Scorsese he continues to challenge himself and make thought provoking masterpieces like Killers of the Flower Moon.

Look at Leo's age and his movies, awards & nominations, he is one of the 5 best actors ever.

He knows how and when to pick the role he needs. And he hasn’t got too comfortable yet, always wanting to flip things around. He needs like one more Oscar win under his belt to really cement it awards wise

@@FlickeringMyth No, for real. I really tried to give the movie a chance, I really did. I appreciated the concepts of the change in mindset of the growing child changing the goings on in Barbiedom... But a lot of the movie was just... Un-movie like. Gosling and Liu were wasted in their roles, the Will Ferrel corporate bungling baddie angle had 90's written all over it , the girl and her mom were completely forgettable and inconsequential...Robbie was pretty much the only really good thing about the movie.

I’m with you and to top it off, I’m not a fan of westerns (well, some are excellent, but it’s not a genre I’m really into). I have to say that I was expecting a more conventional film about greed and corruption but what we got was far, far greater. He really went out there and introduced so much artistry into the film but it was never gratuitous, it was always just right. I think any other filmmaker would have made a more direct story of good vs evil. But what I loved about the film was how layered it was, how the characters really felt fully realized and how the story kept evolving over its run time. There was so much going on in terms of violence, so many minor characters, so many different settings, and it always stayed focused. As much as I’ve liked some of his films post 2000 like The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, Hugo, and The Irishman, this felt more character-driven, like Raging Bull or Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. I absolutely loved it and am going to watch it again tonight because it demands multiple viewings to really soak it in. This is Scorsese at his best.

Is it better than “Oppenheimer?”
@FlickeringMyth

They feel very similar in many ways, prestige filmmakers tackling iconic American stories and the tragedies attached. I feel as a whole, the acting and narrative are stronger here while Oppenheimer is a bit more flashy

This did what I wished Oppenheimer would have done. Both films have long run times but they pack so much into them that you wish certain minor threads would be more fully developed. Oppenheimer felt like it was a stylistically driven film with constant exposition, quick editing, and nonstop music. This one took time to let the characters breathe a bit. And Scorsese is really great at leading you down a certain path then jarring you with some “holy shit” moments (I highly recommend watching with an audience at the movies for maximum impact). I also liked that it wasn’t a “message movie” where bad guys do horrible things and the good guys are righteous. And I love how it often times felt like a little like a Paul Thomas Anderson film, then a Michael Cimino, or a David Lynch film but it still felt wholly unique. This is one his best films ever, up there with the legendary ones.

Which is why it's important to put this into the arts. With the book and the film, we keep the conversation going. Thankfully you can ban teaching it in school, but like many of us, we love the internet 🤷
