I saw this show in 1978, when I went back with my parents, and two daughters, both parents and my brother and I were born and raised there. I am now living in Sacramento County California!

Wow! You had some awesome hula legends. First out of the gate was Kumu Hina, a leader in the Hawaiian community in so many ways. And then you had Kimo Kahuanu acting as MC. He was the announcer for much of the Merrie Monarch that just wrapped early this morning in Hilo. And then you had Tracie Lopes, who's daughter won Miss Aloha Hula and the halau won best overall at MM. She brought some halau members who danced Kahiko and Auwana for us. And then there were the aunties, who were in the Kodak Hula Show. I couldn't be there, but this offering was wonderful and mahalo to you for presenting it. I remember well the Kodak Hula Show. This was the opening so I don't imagine it will be this good day after day. But if it is half as good, it is well worth checking out.

Aloha Luke! Looks like I’m the first to comment. I just saw the first half of your video (it’s getting late here in the S.F. Valley, so I’ll have to finish tomorrow!) I can’t tell you how happy I am to see this new show. I’m a native Californian, have no ties to Hawaii and have only visited a few times. But I remember vividly the Kodak Hula Show from my first visit with my parents back when I was 9 years old (I’ll be 61 next month!) It’s so sad to me to see elements of classic Hawaii disappear, like the Kodak show and now the canoe parade at the PCC (why did they stop those performances?) So I couldn’t help to get a bit emotional while watching the beginning of the Kilohana show. THAT to me is real Hawaii, and I’m so glad to see it come back. Especially with some of the original Kodak Hula Show performers. With all the tough times Hawaii’s been through lately, this feels like a breath of fresh air! Thanks so much for shooting this video! Guess I really have to book that trip now! 🥲🌴🌴

I'm glad that finally Hawaii is bringing back something for FREE that the tourists don't have to pay for. The Kodak Hula Show was free for many years and then if I remember correctly they started charging $5.00 for the show and then it was dropped totally. Because of the excessive hotel rates and other things, I stopped coming to Hawaii after 67 visits since 1983. I am still planning not to return until I can ascertain that the attitude of locals changes toward tourists. Hawaii needs to go back to welcoming those tourists who are respectful to locals and the land such as I made sure I was when I visited there many times. For now, I am visiting the "9th island" which is Las Vegas only until I can see things turning for the better in Hawaii. With 50,000 Hawaiian residents living in the Las Vegas area now, it is still nice to be able to get a "plate lunch" at the California Hotel by the Fremont Street Experience and to buy some Laperts Aloha Ice Cream at that hotel/casino also. I hope I will be able to return to Hawaii some day and not feel nickel and dimed to death. Aloha.
