That guy that he showed as the former president of Brazil, was Fernando Collor de Mello, the first president of Brazil to be impeached in 1992, and also, he was regarded as a one of the worst presidents in Brazilian history, inflation on the end of his term was at 1,112%, he tried to make an economic plan that was horrible, he confiscated the money of everyone and only left US$ 50, in febuary 1992, his brother after having an argument with Paulo Cesar Farias (also known as PC Farias), denouced a massive corruption scandal, that was lead by PC Farias and had involment of President Collor, in August of that same year, A CPI (in english A Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry), anouced that President Collor was guilty and they opened an impeachment process and he was removed from office, and his vice-president became President.

The PC party was pretty much dead by the time Kim Campbell took over. It had brought in a REALLY unpopular sales tax and botched two constitutional amendments, creating hard feelings across Canada and causing two breakaway parties to form. Plus there was a terrible recession from 1991-1993. The PCs were at about 15% support when she took over. She had no time to give it any new direction because the maximum term between elections (5 years back then) had almost expired. Yes, her campaign was mediocre but really the PCs did no worse than where they were headed anyway if Mulroney had stayed as leader. And the next two PC leaders led the party to 20 seats and 12 seats, which kind of points to the fact not so much that Kim Campbell was a terrible leader but that, after Mulroney, the PCs were a spent force.

Before the election I said that she should go after the foreign poachers. Six months after she lost big time, Tobin went after them and became a national hero. Something else Mulroney screwed up big time was to hold his ministers accountable and made them resign. All the public understood was that his ministers had to resign. Chretien bragged that none of his ministers had to resign. But that was only because he didn't make them. And he was the greenest PM in Canadian history but the results were not evident at the time.

So, if I get your point correctly, Campbell is canadian history's worst prime because she's been thrown in an unwinnable election and then lost so badly that it destroyed her party, which was already going to lose. What's bad for a political party isn't necessarily what's bad for a country, and I would rather judge a prime minister on the policies he\she takes rather than his\her ability to get elected or his\her failure to be the smooth-talking-Jesus-figure of an already dying party. Kim Campbell may have been the worst politician to get the top job, be she can't be Canada's worst ever prime minister: she's not much more than a pesky footnote!

Throwing a party leader under the bus by electing them/forcing them into it. By such logic Alec Douglas-Home would be the worst PM in British History during to his year-ish long which is complete rubbish given the existence of John Major or Gordon Brown (the latter perhaps may be another example, but his Premiership was more than a year). She does seem the Canadian equivilent to Theresa May, in which she took over a liberal conservative before showing the Party to be a liberal and nebulous mess at the election she contested. The only thing keeping May in power that couldn't help Campbell was two-fold: state of the main opposition (In Britain's case being a committed socialist) and Party loyalties running strong (but still failing to guarantee her that 'assured landslide').

To pass the blame on to Kim Campbell seems highly misguided. Brian Mulroney was easily the worst PM in Canadian history, and almost single handedly destroyed the national PC party. If you wanted to argue that Kim Campbell was irrelevant, might be a stronger position.

I’ve always been curious about her after almost running into her at the Vancouver Indycar race. I was an official, pushing my way through the crowd and saw open space around a blonde haired woman, so I went for it. A hand grabbed my arm and a sunglass wearing, radio toting guy in a suit pointed at her and said “the Prime Minister “. I was surprised at getting so close, 3ft, to the head of large country. I’m American and typically ignorant about Canadian politics. I had to ask about to find out who I had almost run into.

Excellent video. I attended a lecture given by Kim Campbell about a year ago in Toronto. She is a highly intelligent woman. I think that we would certainly have been no worse off if she had continued in office beyond 1993 as opposed to the Chretien Liberals. The Liberal governments' policies ended up not being radically different from those proposed by the P.C's in the campaign of 93 in any case. Mr. McCullough, I would not be opposed to a whole series on the Prime Minister's of Canada in a similar style to this video.

Although he died one month into his presidency, he's still respected as a president (at least here in Ohio) for being essentially the founding father of the midwest, and I think people often see his earlier achievements as justifying him as a president, even if he hardly was one.

In French the premier of quebec is prime minister because they dont really have a word for premier Premier and Prime Minister mean the same thing (premier meaning the premier minister of government) and technically its not incorrect to call a premier the prime minister of their province its just weve taken to calling them premier in english to have a clear verbal distinction between provincial leaders and the federal one.
