The thing is, people who are complaining about the dress being worn by Kim aren't even necessarily mad about the actual dress. It's more so about the fact that Marilyn specifically asked for it to be worn by her and her ONLY. It's just so sad that she is known in America as a woman who never had a fair chance at life, never had the respect she deserved, and is still, so long after she passed, being disrespected. It's just frustrating like let the woman be at peace please. For once.

To me, this demonstrates the dangerous power that the rich have. From Ripley's buying the dress at auction for 7 Million, instead of the dress going to a costume institute, to Kim wearing it because of her status (and probably a hefty "donation" being involved.) Money does not mean a historical item is in the right hands, no one is blameless in this situation. I think the people who are not taking this seriously are blind to the potential effect this could have in the future.

The most frustrating part of this is there was no reason for Kim to wear it except clout because that dress was supposed to be a nude illusion dress so Kim with her darker skin tone wearing the dress isn't even able to have the same execution as when Marylin wore it. (Which was that she looked like she was naked dressed only in diamonds) Kim should have just had a recreation of the dress done in her skin tone and done her hair up all cute in an early 1960s style and everyone would have gotten the reference without damaging the original dress. I don't blame Kim but someone in that situation who was more knowledgeable about vintage clothing should have said no

I agree both parties are to blame. There is no way Ripley's would have said yes to any other person than Kim k . The hair is just another way to take everything from Marilyn in death. People even say Marylin had to be sewn into it, a dress that was made specifically for her body, and Kim and Marylin do NOT have the same body type. It’s sad that it was sold to Ripley. Also, *Alyona Yarushina* has made a very informative video about the issue with Kim or anyone wearing the dress. Marilyn was completely naked in it. This means the garment's only contact to anyone's skin, sweat, or scent, was only with Marline's. That's a big part of WHY this dress is unique. This now is all gone forever. Both should be held in fault for this. Anyone who knows the history and tragic end of Marilyn Monroe's life wouldn't think to do this. That dress is important for many cultural reasons and was customized for Monroe. That time in her life was so special, and she was singing to a man she had feelings for at one point. Not to mention her dress didn't even fit the theme? If Ripley's and Kim wanted to pay respect to Marilyn Monroe, they could have worked together to create a replica fitted just for Kim in the same process of how Monroe's was made. Also, giving Kim a piece of Marilyn Monroe's hair is extremely disrespectful IMO. It's not like they gave her hair to say a DNA bank or museum, they gave it to a celebrity who will more than likely forget the about it within a month or show it off like a Gucci bag. She is a fashion icon, she should've recognize that she was damaging it very actively.

This whole situation feels like a metaphor for nostalgia baiting. Whoever was in charge of deciding Kim's outfit for the Met Gala wanted to make a moment by wearing a dress attributed to another iconic figure's moment instead of getting creative and finding a new dress instead. This mirrors a lot of other issues with pop culture today in trying to recreate a moment that's already had its time when it shouldn't be a vehicle for anybody else but that person in that point of history. It's even more frustrating that in the grand scheme of things, this poor dress didn't have to suffer in the first place since it had nothing to do with the Gilded Age prompt.

Im not trying to body shame Kim AT ALL but earlier this year, she got a butt reduction. Even after the reduction, it was still really large and obviously larger than Monroe’s bottom. Idk why kim wore the dress, especially because she knew that she’s not only have to lose weight, but SQUEEZE into the dress. I feel like if you have to wear layers of shapewear and squeeze into a delicate dress, it shouldn’t have been worn. She couldn’t fit the dress and she knew that. I hope she pays for the damages.

I truly believe that this is the fault of the owners of the dress they should have been doing more to preserve this dress and the history of it. However, Kim also should have stepped up and said let’s just create a replica of the to wear all night at the met. Not let me lose weight to see if it will zip. I didn’t watch the met only saw clips from your video but she looked uncomfortable and like she was trying to keep everything sucked in so nothing would bust open. Plus those side seems look like they were going to break every time she moved. So in a way it’s both there faults for this.

this isnt true.. the people from museum said; “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” noted Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner, who was continuously with the dress the day of the Gala and during transport from Orlando to New York. Kim Kardashian’s walk up the Metropolitan Museum’s stairs at this year’s Met Gala caused quite the stir, but one thing Ripley’s Believe It or Not! can say with confidence is that it did not cause damage to Marilyn Monroe’s famed “Happy Birthday” dress from 1962. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is not the first owner of this dress. It was acquired at a Julien’s Auctions event in 2016 for $4.8 million. A report written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, “a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes,” among other instances of damage. search it up....

The dress was not meant to be worn by anyone else but Marilyn. It was specifically made for her figure and skin tone, to make it look sheer and as if she’s only covered in diamonds. Kim should not have worn the exact dress, she has so many connections to designers who could’ve made a similar dress for Kim and say it was inspired by Marilyn’s dress. Kim looked so bad in the dress, it did not match her skin tone, or with her blonde hair, and it did not compliment her figure. Kim ruined a part of history.

Also obsessive with the idea of being the ''new Marilyn", and even accepting some creepy ass piece of a dead womans hair. Ripley's are cloutchasers but literally nobody has denied that, and everyone has been calling them out. Doesn't mean that Kim isn't a narcistic creepily obsessed celeb, who thinks its okay to damage a piece of history. She even had a full blown replica, yet STILL decided to wear it, so clearly this is not a simple case of ''everyone would do the same!". No, not they would NOT.

If this dress is so important it is a good question as to why Ripley has it. They are not a real 'museum' and probably should do the right thing and hand it over to the people who can preserve and restore it. Unfortunately I think this is an issue with Ripleys. If I was in Kim's shoes of course I would take the opportunity (if it's a celeb I really loved) to wear something they wore! Ripleys wanted press and they got it.

He himself said (in an interview) that he made that dress for Marilyn and Marilyn only. To my understanding, she HAD a replica made. But she actively CHOSE to take this garment that has been preserved for decades. The garment is now damaged and it’s heartbreaking. I’m truly so disappointed in Ripley’s for allowing this to be taken out of their display. I’ve never been a fan of Kim, but it feels out of vanity to have a replica ~shit she could even afford a replica from the designer himself!!~ and actively chose to still wear that piece of history. Sorry sorry I’m off my soap box. But seriously. It’s absurd and irresponsible behavior from someone who is claimed to be a “fashion icon.”

One of the craziest elements of this that I hear no one talking about …& I get why cause it can sound rude altho i DONT mean it to be… She did all of this… JUST to look ….eh…… Aside from the fact that it wasn’t made for her.. It’s NOT her color... Even the hair is killing me.. It’s crazy the length we go (even someone like Kim K to PERFECTLY emulate someone) rather than wearing something that’s INSPIRED by that person/look BUT… curating /tailoring it to what looks good on you! Complimenting your shape…your skin tones.. We DO THIS to OURSELVES w/new trends ALL the time! Clothes, Makeup/hair etc. Ya know… I know it wouldbt have caused as much as a stir BUT… If she did a version of Marilyn’s dress.. in champagne color.. or light light white gold/esk.. Did her hair or wore a wig in Marlyins style BUT with HER HAIR COLOR… & the signature Marilyn makeup… light wing, clean liner.. & a red lip to compliment her … Not a doubt in my mind..she would’ve looked ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. (To the point I would honestly love to see it) At the end of the day, She’s Kim Kardashian, she’s gonna look incredible in anything!! But of ALL her looks, I mean, that Nude sculpted met Gala dress is one of the most beautiful /artistic yet iconic looks EVER. Not just for her…. But period.. It shows without it a shadow of a doubt when she embraces herself fully , she really is unstoppable .. she creates the moment. I know she said she felt lost w/o Kayne putting her looks together BUT I think she needs to trust herself. Her best looks are the ones SHE puts together. Ican’t help but find it so interesting , we would almost rather look …eh… to emulate someone/what’s in style PERFECTLY rather than accepting “this wouldn’t work on me…. But what if I played /changed the colors… shapes…” I.e. what if I tailored it to myself. j.m.o.
