this isnt true.. the people from museum said; “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” noted Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner, who was continuously with the dress the day of the Gala and during transport from Orlando to New York. Kim Kardashian’s walk up the Metropolitan Museum’s stairs at this year’s Met Gala caused quite the stir, but one thing Ripley’s Believe It or Not! can say with confidence is that it did not cause damage to Marilyn Monroe’s famed “Happy Birthday” dress from 1962. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is not the first owner of this dress. It was acquired at a Julien’s Auctions event in 2016 for $4.8 million. A report written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, “a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes,” among other instances of damage. search it up....

@voidbreather74052 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiachavez6408 Not OP, but they'd likely be heartbroken due to being alive around the time that Marilyn was (or at least were maybe raised while she was particularly prominent in pop culture) and adoring her.

@@cynthiachavez6408 (1st) Marilyn Monroe was an icon that people looked up to on a level that NO person born in the days of public internet and scrutiny could ever ever understand. In my parents opinion. (2) Look up President JFK and his murder. 😞 Then you may understand just a smidge of the history and significance of this dress and the time. There was a G.D. reason Kim picked this dress and it is because of it’s history. Sick 💯 sick. Not angry at you. But at the idea anyone thought this was cool …
@jaccrazy212 жыл бұрын
@@voidbreather7405 Thank you yea. And folks back then had no cordless phones no cable t.v. and no internet. The talk of the world was the stunning Marilyn in movies …. Pop culture was not created in three types of a finger back then. One had to have triple talent to be known nationally. Months went into the idea behind a dress. And it was worn at a most significant event like the birthday of a President who was lost and loved by many.

I only knew Ripley’s from the TV show and their Copenhagen museum & didn’t think they would have something this important. I blame Kim for not having good sense and giving into her ego and Ripley’s for approving this. Also, yes there is a ton of things going on in the world but let’s not minimise destroying art and culture

I used to LOVE Kim Kardashian before this incident but I'm a HUGE HUGE fan of Marilyn monroe, my entire home is covered in pictures and memorabilia of her. The fact that Kim had the audacity to even request said dress & the fact they allowed her to wear it is absolutely UNFORGIVABLE!!!! I

I'm trying to justify it but, it really does feel like she's disrespecting 2 icons who tragically died. Would wearing Michael Jackson's, or princess diana's, or literally anyone else's? I don't know. It's not like that was her family member's item. Is there a boundary there?
@truecrimechick2 жыл бұрын
The dress was not meant to be worn by anyone else but Marilyn. It was specifically made for her figure and skin tone, to make it look sheer and as if she’s only covered in diamonds. Kim should not have worn the exact dress, she has so many connections to designers who could’ve made a similar dress for Kim and say it was inspired by Marilyn’s dress. Kim looked so bad in the dress, it did not match her skin tone, or with her blonde hair, and it did not compliment her figure. Kim ruined a part of history.

The dress lost all value when ripley bought it. She almost didnt touch it but the team who handled it 😬 marilyn was so small kim isnt even 5 ft tall wich isnt common for a model 🤦♀️ Marilyn was super ashamed of that night btw she had addiction problems , she was drunk and told the world about her affair even if she was a private person i dont think she would be mad about someone who adore her to wear that dress she would probably be more mad about the guy who paid to be bury face down over Marilyn

Those people still would've gotten backlash. Almost nobody is calling Kim a ''cloutchaser'', what they are calling her is ignorant, disrespectful and VERY narcistic. Also obsessive with the idea of being the ''new Marilyn", and even accepting some creepy ass piece of a dead womans hair. Ripley's are cloutchasers but literally nobody has denied that, and everyone has been calling them out. Doesn't mean that Kim isn't a narcistic creepily obsessed celeb, who thinks its okay to damage a piece of history. She even had a full blown replica, yet STILL decided to wear it, so clearly this is not a simple case of ''everyone would do the same!". No, not they would NOT.

If this dress is so important it is a good question as to why Ripley has it. They are not a real 'museum' and probably should do the right thing and hand it over to the people who can preserve and restore it. Unfortunately I think this is an issue with Ripleys. If I was in Kim's shoes of course I would take the opportunity (if it's a celeb I really loved) to wear something they wore! Ripleys wanted press and they got it.

I think if anything, Anna Wintour is partially to blame as well. The Met Gala is held to fund the preservation of historical costume. Showing up in one is like showing up in Lady Gaga’s meat dress at the Chiang Mai fruit festival. Anna Wintour approving this just shows her hypocrisy as she is the one that approves all outfits.

It’s disrespect to Marilyn and to the designer, Bob Mackie. I don’t have a relationship with Bob Mackie, but he’s my great uncle and is a phenomenal designer. I deeply admire his work. He himself said (in an interview) that he made that dress for Marilyn and Marilyn only. To my understanding, she HAD a replica made. But she actively CHOSE to take this garment that has been preserved for decades. The garment is now damaged and it’s heartbreaking. I’m truly so disappointed in Ripley’s for allowing this to be taken out of their display. I’ve never been a fan of Kim, but it feels out of vanity to have a replica ~shit she could even afford a replica from the designer himself!!~ and actively chose to still wear that piece of history. Sorry sorry I’m off my soap box. But seriously. It’s absurd and irresponsible behavior from someone who is claimed to be a “fashion icon.”

One of the craziest elements of this that I hear no one talking about …& I get why cause it can sound rude altho i DONT mean it to be… She did all of this… JUST to look ….eh…… Aside from the fact that it wasn’t made for her.. It’s NOT her color... Even the hair is killing me.. It’s crazy the length we go (even someone like Kim K to PERFECTLY emulate someone) rather than wearing something that’s INSPIRED by that person/look BUT… curating /tailoring it to what looks good on you! Complimenting your shape…your skin tones.. We DO THIS to OURSELVES w/new trends ALL the time! Clothes, Makeup/hair etc. Ya know… I know it wouldbt have caused as much as a stir BUT… If she did a version of Marilyn’s dress.. in champagne color.. or light light white gold/esk.. Did her hair or wore a wig in Marlyins style BUT with HER HAIR COLOR… & the signature Marilyn makeup… light wing, clean liner.. & a red lip to compliment her … Not a doubt in my mind..she would’ve looked ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. (To the point I would honestly love to see it) At the end of the day, She’s Kim Kardashian, she’s gonna look incredible in anything!! But of ALL her looks, I mean, that Nude sculpted met Gala dress is one of the most beautiful /artistic yet iconic looks EVER. Not just for her…. But period.. It shows without it a shadow of a doubt when she embraces herself fully , she really is unstoppable .. she creates the moment. I know she said she felt lost w/o Kayne putting her looks together BUT I think she needs to trust herself. Her best looks are the ones SHE puts together. Ican’t help but find it so interesting , we would almost rather look …eh… to emulate someone/what’s in style PERFECTLY rather than accepting “this wouldn’t work on me…. But what if I played /changed the colors… shapes…” I.e. what if I tailored it to myself. j.m.o.
