This is somewhat shocking to me because in the era of the ever popular yet d*adly BBL surgery, quite a lot of people have used Kim's body as their inspiration and surgery reference. Even for facial procedures doctors say she's a popular reference, so basically she's VERY influential to her audience. Body types being listed as a trend is going to get those following either ill, or much worse. Actually it has been.
@AlexciaWHY
@AlexciaWHY Жыл бұрын
One day we’ll discuss why being obsessed with your body in general is unhealthy. As a naturally thin person, I suffered the comments of others about my body all my life. I became obsessed with my body after a point and I wanted to eat more and gain weight. I had a friend who force fed herself 6 meals a day just to gain weight. She complained all the time about how hard it was for her. A doctor (to my knowledge) never said she needed to gain weight, she was insecure so she worked hard to fix it. And no one but me considered that maybe she was struggling with a dysfunctional attitude towards food. Everyone just praised her for growing her ass lol. And I’m happy she’s happy but it scares me to think that body trends in general encourage extremes. We need to focus on the functionality of our bodies, feeding ourselves the nutrients we need, and understand that all hyperfixation on the physical is in the interest of fitting into society and/or pleasing men. It’s never good. Forcing your body to do something it naturally doesn’t is not healthy.
@WinxtotheWorld
@WinxtotheWorld Жыл бұрын
The point you made about your friend being praised for growing a bottom is very relevant and I'm glad you touched on it. Some body parts are put under a microscope and if it doesn't fit the standard, society makes sure we know. They don't care if you hurt yourself to get a certain body type, once you have it, it's praised.

I use to be really really skinny because I had a fast metobalism and I will never forget being told back in highschool by one girl ( who wasn’t black but I’ll explain why that matters) that she wished she was as skinny as me. On the other hand, I was bullied for being too skinny by other black people and was told I was anorexic and needed to eat soul food and not starve myself. I wasn’t starving myself. I simply had a fast metabolism. Skinny was only praised in other communities not the black community. I’m 26 and I gained weight right before I turned 26. I’m still on the slimmer side but my weight went straight to my hips, thighs, and booty so I filled out more. I finally feel content with my size and I don’t care if people think I look better when I was skinnier or that I look better now. All that matters is that I’m happy with the way I looks.

As someone who’s recovering from an Ed and excessive and compulsive exercise addiction I think seeing "skinny" being idealized and glamorized is so scary.. I was underweight, had abs and was so skinny but bc I shrank my body with unhealthy disordered habits and rigid routines and I was miserable. Being skinny and losing weight + over exercising \ under eating or being hyper fixated on healthy clean eating shouldn’t get praised and normalized and reality is weight gain and calories aren’t bad. Skinny doesn’t make u superior or a more beautiful person. Your ideal body is the body u don’t have to maintain through restriction, being scared to gain weight or body changes or saving your calories, choosing the low cal high volume version and through earning food like excessive exercise and compensating. Bodies with a veryyyy low body fat percentage shouldn’t get praised and no you’re not prettier and your life won’t improve if u get skinny.

14:56 Short personal anecdote- I nearly died from an infection that put me into heart failure, chest filled with fluid, multiple organs shutting down, the infection got into my spine and hip joints so I was unable to move, sit up and unable to walk. I was hospitalized for 6 months, and another 8 months using a walker while I learned to walk and move again. As you might imagine, between the illness itself, 6 spinal surgeries and being essentially bedridden for nearly a year I gained a significant amount of weight. Walking was my primary form of physical therapy, once I was able to walk again. Combined with being physically unable to eat due to constant nausea and vomiting and lack of appetite, i then LOST a startlingly amount of weight in a very short period of time (I was close to 300lbs and currently I’m down to just over 100 lbs, and this drastic change occurred over about 18 months) I had to renew my license when I got out of the hospital, my license photo is ROUGH but I know why I look that way. Two weeks ago, I was picking up one of my many prescriptions and the pharmacist was skeptical that I was the same person in that photo. So, I then had to explain that I had gained and then lost a significant amount of weight due to illness. She was ‘amazed’ at my transformation and then proceeded to ask how I lost so much weight. I again told her it was because I was sick and unable to eat, so I wouldn’t recommend my “weight loss program”… but then she kept asking. I finally told her “I’m not physically well, all I do is exercise to manage my pain levels and I barely eat, it’s not a healthy choice I made, and I wouldn’t recommend it” Like… if someone tells you their weight loss is due to a medical illness, maybe stop prying..? The obsession with being thin is definitely back. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather be on the thinner side but I would also really enjoy being able to eat a big, hot meal. It really disturbs me to see what has been going on with Kim and Khloe and the resurgence of the anorexic envy trend.

its funny how beauty standards are soo different in different parts of the world. As a west african who is naturally skinny and the beauty standard in africa and the black community will forever be looking curvy and having a full hourglass body , its quite ironic how being skinny is seen a certain way in the western world.

A lot of times when people loose a lot of weight and become very thin, it’s because they feel very out of control in their life and the one thing they can control is their body. In Kim’s case look at her life right now, 4 young children , a divorced family, her fame, her ex husband Is famous as well, her age, her dating life etc. everything is very much more out of control rather than in previous years. Her saying these things is not problematic, she is just going through something many of us has gone through but people feel they can demonize her because, she is a public figure. However she chooses to share her life with us, we should be thankful, and continue to encourage her to be happy not ridicule her Ecspecially if she has a mental illness such as a eating disorder.

The “wife beater” term became associated with the tank top after a 1947 criminal case. A Detroit man was arrested for beating his wife to death, and newspapers printed a photo of the "wife beater" wearing a stained undershirt. This became solidified in popular culture by the 1951 movie “A Street Car Named Desire”, the main character is an abuser who commits rape and other violent acts while wearing a white tank top. I hope this helps!

@@mandy8086 body weight doesn’t equate to health, and it could be a number of things that effect your weight (sleep, the food that you eat, how much food you eat, exercise, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, emotional state, etc.) I wish health for you, whatever that may look like for you (because it’s different for every body type/shape). For me holding onto how much I weigh and what my body looks like in comparison to how it “should be” or how other people look/weigh, has only negatively impacted me and made me feel like I should be different even when I was perfectly fine for myself. Don’t let society tell you that you need to be or look a certain way. In my opinion, she looks amazing now. And as far as how much her weight loss is bothering her audience, it's not just her anymore. Nowadays, if anyone posts anything regarding their weight loss, someone is triggered. We can't tell others to not post about something just because we are getting triggered. No one is entitled to anything. Filter your social pages to ensure that the triggers don't bombard you every day and seek help to better handle your triggers. I am afraid the influence she's going to have again the next years, are most of the ppl who got bbl cause it was "trending" regret it? Are they going to have plastic surgery yet again to achieve the 2000 skinny look that's coming back?

this has me legit afraid. specially the whole skinny thing vid from her close circle. like, if SHE is getting like that, I am worried we might go back to heroin chic again. for real.

I had been skinny till the pandemic. I had an active lifestyle and really didn't bother with my body but many people would be like you're too skinny or compliment me. I never took their comments to my heart but after gaining weight most people are calling me fat and now it has gone into my head. I absolutely hate it. And suddenly I have started counting calories, skipping meals, I am trying to stop and getting healthy properly.

Don’t listen to what others are saying, I understand where you’re coming from but don’t starve yourself.. I get what you mean because there was a point in my life where I was only eating one meal a day and I was skinny but is it really worth putting your body thru starvation? It’s not. Love yourself, every body is different and every body is beautiful

Can you talk abt the film blonde on Netflix it’s terrible and disrespectful. Think the beauty standard will always be toxic. You either get skinny shammed or fat shammed. You truly can’t win. Can we honestly stop treating our bodies like fashion trends. It’s not healthy it can cause serious health affects long- term which obviously isn’t good. Having seen someone who I was close with go through an ED shouldn’t be something to glorify it’s truly heartbreaking seeing someone you care abt going thru a ED. Almost going thru that myself as well it’s terrifying. Kim needs a reality check she really does. I think she wants to look like a barbie doll which isn’t reality. Also wearing a corset or wasit trainer isn’t healthy you’re crushing your bones and internal organs that’s not healthy. If you want to work out go to the gym, eat clean etc but just know even with that being skinny largely depends on your genetics so these wasit trainers and ppl who promote that bs are selling you dreams it doesn’t work and will cause you damage in the future

@@munchiekins it was so disturbing and disgusting. It’s literally just about the male gaze. I’m convinced the director hated her because the way he portrayed her is just disgusting

@@Rebecca-jh1ct it kinda reminded me of euphoria the 2nd season where sam levinson focused so much on the character of Cassie and it felt like he really just wanred to film her in slutty outfits being heartbroken and emotional @_@

What’s funny to me is that society at large has placed someone is vapid as Kimberly Noelle on a pedestal and then gets upset when she says and does superficial things 😂😂😂😂 Maybe if you worshiped people of substance this wouldn’t be an issue… Just a thought❤
