I have no idea how they managed to pull it off. Really, it would have been so easy for this scene to be extremely cringe, suffer from mood whiplash, and/or fall flat. Instead, it flawlessly went from sad to hilarious and witty, from heavy to absurd. The character is not even being cheeky like in Kim Ji Won in FFMW, he's genuinely lamenting about being cute because he's suffering from his situation for real, yet it's still endearing instead of exasperating. The reveal of the "guards" tasked with following him or how he can't find a leaf "on his side" were perfect too, with absurd and comical timing despite the heavy undertones. I cannot tell if it's the acting, the writing, how the characters play off each other, the direction, the music, the editing, or the cinematography, but it works perfectly. Really impressed honestly.

It's meta, and so funny, taking up the fandom claim about him being cute when drunk (i.e., mastering the art of acting the drunk+cute combi)and then shouts it out in the ugliest, hilariousest, patheticest way you could imagine. He even goes home on his feet, swaying, howling and complaining about his cuteness.

If you watch the behind-the-scenes released by tvn, this scene is an adlib and you can hear Kim Soohyun saying "I just paid homage to Kim Jiwon". So it is indeed an homage to Choi Aera's famous aegyo in Fight For My Way. For those who don't know, Choi Aera was played by Kim Jiwon.

So far this is my favorite scene on the drama. Most people tend to capture the cute side of the actor here but on my perspective, this gives me a lot more repect and still gives me a question "how did he do that?" Here he's drunk, he is crying, the situation for him are very frustrated and suffocating, and while delivering those juicy lines. Very well done 😂❤

It was an amazing and funny scene. But then when he came home, and he went to his wife’s bedroom door, and he stood there silently and didn’t dare to come in, and she stood there, too, and she didn’t open the door, it’s really WOW Suddenly there was such a feeling of pity and compassion for them, well, how did they come to life like this? why is such a huge sincere love gone, blown up like smoke?
