This video is actually just Part 1 of a larger 92-minute video essay I spent almost eight months on analyzing Kimi no Na wa, its cultural influences, and more generally its connections to Makoto Shinkai's entire filmography as well. It has been one of the biggest personal projects I've ever worked on to date, and I hope the anime community here can find something interesting to learn from my research.
