The Kimura arm lock is one of the most powerful and versatile tools in the submission grappler’s arsenal. Also referred to as the double wrist lock or ude garami, this lock is not just a powerful submission, but a position, or trap, in itself.
In this video, I outline some common, and not so common, entries and finishes using this hold. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think, and don’t forget to like, share and subscribe!

I used to not like doing Kimura's, but when I started rolling a lot I realized that was one of the easiest moves that came to me. Especially the omoplata, or when I get one underhook and twist my partner's upper body down (while standing) and step over, applying my weight to their back. Experiment a lot, you'll learn very creative techniques!

Super powerful. Move for bigger guys who get danced upon by little fast dudes. I have used some of these even before I saw this vid. Ever since introducing the Kimura/Americana (double wrist lock) into my primary gameplan, I have been getting a lot of crazy stuff as a white belt. Big tall blue belt, he was getting a takedown position on me, got Kimura from standing, took him to the ground with it. 3 stripe white belt took side control on me (starting position) and I got double wrist Americana on the far side. Swept to side control and finished. Friend at white belt with almost exactly double the class time as me, took Kimura and scissor choke. All in a couple of weeks against superior opponents. Love this one.

For a long time I didn't put much effort into learning the finer aspects of the kimura. There were other submissions that I felt more naturally drawn to and enjoyed, but I would still take them when presented a good opportunity. I realized recently that subconsciously I like them, just didn't put as much effort into them and even so still had quite good success with them. Last week I watched a rolling kimura to back take video and hit it the first try. I also naturally figured out the leg configuration you show after rolling from mount (2 legs over) and worked it quite a bit on big guys who were harder to triangle and had good defense. Even with a big, strong guy you're putting both your legs, oblique, back, and arms against their arm. That's so much power you can generate to overcome the strength difference. Really looking forward to this next step of my relationship with the kimura and already seeing new ways it will tie into my usual game nicely (ie gift wrap and back transitions). Thank you SO much for this relatively short but packed and concise video. I can tell you put a lot of effort into it, and I really appreciate your work 🙏🏼 Much respect

I never landed many kimuras because I find it very hard to lock them in more graduated opponents. Defense is 'easy' (if that can be said for anything in BJJ): extend the arm. The triceps is a powerfull muscle to go against, esp. if combined with body movement as a whole. But after watching this, I'm going to try faster kimuras from unsuspecting positions. Your content is very good and your skills are commendable. Cheers from Brazil.

This was an absolutely fantastic tutorial. I caught a few details that I wasn’t shown before that will totally help. For instance, the entry at 9:53 you hook your arm through the wedge without worrying too much about grabbing the wrist with your left hand. When I was shown this technique, step one was grab that wrist. I’m 1 for 75 on it so I’m going to focus on trapping the arm first. Thanks for such an informative video. The 18 clowns who clicked dislike are probably your ex-girlfriends or guys you’ve put to sleep or made shit themselves!
