Support the channel and buy my ultimate Desi Delhi food guide here: maxmcfarlin.gu... 🇮🇳 Good morning from Lajpat Nagar! Having slept after a long evening out in Rohini trying pizza and chatting with the locals over chai, I woke up and checked out of my somewhat dirty hotel fairly early (8am, early for Delhi) so that I could make the 40 minute walk from Lajpat Nagar to Greater Kailash and try some food.
I had heard good reviews about the momos at a small cafe called Brown Sugar, and after my dry experience at Dolma Aunty Momos, I had to come try these. I walked up to the small shop and saw a bunch of uncles sitting outside chatting. I said hello and they were super friendly right from the start, giving me recommendations on the food to try. They recommended me to try chai and steamed soya momos. When uncles give you food recommendations, you agree to it, cause they're usually not wrong!
We started chatting and they were extremely happy I spoke Hindi. They offered me to join them for breakfast, giving me a slice of toast with ginger chai. They really made me feel at home despite being all the way around the world in India by myself. Truly incredible hospitality and people.
After a few minutes my plate of momos came out piping hot. Right from the first glance I could tell these momos were a whole different level compared to Dolma Auntie Momos. For one, you could see how much softer and juicier the wrappers were. They weren't falling apart and dry-looking like Dolma's. Each momo is much bigger too and made with a lot more care.
The sauce they give you here is also super delicious. It's a sour and spicy chili sauce that pairs perfectly with the salty pork filling, really good. And this giant plate is only 170 INR, or just over $2 USD. Can't beat it. The uncles also recommended I try tandoori momos, which they say are the best there. I'll be trying them next trip for sure.
In my humble opinion, if you're already down in Lajpat Nagar, skip the hype at Dolma Auntie Momos and take a rickshaw down to Brown Sugar. You won't regret it.
