Count out 39 bears is a little extreme for a first question!

Why? Kindergarteners are very capable of counting to 100. So why not 39?

It's funny to me that people are perceiving this as intense testing and making him feel uneasy??? How would you assess a kindergartner on if they can count from 0-100 or counting objects?

16 minutes of intense quizzing for a 5 year old boy? Of course tasks more difficult and he is getting fatigued. This should have been divided into at least 2 separate sessions with plenty of time for relaxing in between sessions- maybe even on 2 different days.

she could let him jump while doing the counting assessments then he would not be so bored doing what she wants him to do

No way. I would've declared each bear to be valued at "5", then counted out 6 of them. Naturally, I'd bite the head off the 7th one, and declare it a "1".

remote learning kindergartens 2020 are much more stressful than these assessments

I'm curious what the outcome of the assessment was for this little guy. I imagine it was to promote him to first grade...was he ready?

It could be that or a pre-assessment for the year to determine what level he is on in math. This makes it easier to determine what group to put him in for small group instruction and differentiation levels for lessons.

this boy is getting restless. The assessment is too long and too "formal" . I'm so glad I don't teach in a public school.

THIS ONE IS NOT A GOOD ASSESSMENT...SHE MAKES THE BOY UNEASY...POOR BOY...I PITY THE BOY SO MUCH...

I'd say she doesn't necessarily make him uneasy; she is fairly calm and patient. The uneasiness comes from the students not understanding and being aware of his own lack of understanding. It can be hard to draw the line for stopping the assessment. In these, teachers are even asked to observe body language because it is such a big indicator of the student's confidence in the area being assessed!
