6 жыл бұрынBodawpaya was an excentric. He attempted to build the largest stupa in the world, proclaimed himself to be the successor of Gautama Buddha and on top of that launched successfull invasions of Arakan and Assam, as well as two unsuccessfull in Siam.

is it me, or does Burmese Kings seem to be particularly brutal when they ascend the throne?

Especially during the 18th century. They destroyed Ayutthaya (later Siam), Arakan and tried to invade Siam again.

@@m24chaffeefighter49 i mean, showing prowess against foreign foes is one thing. But killing members of your own family to get to the throne is another.

@@stoneruler True. If you were to read their history, they always have conflicts with their neighbors and even their own people. In the early days, the Burmese would just execute those who opposed them.

No doubt these superstitious kings were wasting resources. Building stupa instead of forts along the vast coast to stop the British.
