King Charles III made a Pokemon reference during a state banquet held in honour of the visiting emperor and empress of Japan.
The close bond between the two nations was praised by the King in a speech, with Charles telling Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako their “shared values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law” were more important than ever.
He also joked that he hasn’t had “any better luck” with more recent attempts at fishing - referencing the time they spent fly fishing when they were younger.
“The Pokemon phrase ‘gotta catch ’em all’ may resonate with my grandchildren, but for me it is, perhaps, aspirational,” Charles said.

William didn’t seem too impressed with the joke, or maybe he heard it a few times too many during practice

@@tobsjones1609What powers does the King of Great Britain have? He is the head of the judiciary and appoints judges. The King of Great Britain is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces and can veto any law, it is he who declares war or makes peace. The King can single-handedly approve the financial law (in simple terms, the country's budget) bypassing the consent of Parliament. The King has the right to dissolve the House of Commons, that is, the British Parliament, early. The King has the right to veto laws passed by Parliament. Appointment of the Prime Minister So in 1963, the right of Elizabeth II to appoint the Prime Minister was used. However, the candidate was not elected leader of his party. So fate smiled on Alex Douglas-Home. He became the new Prime Minister by decree of the Queen. According to recently revealed data, the Queen has used the veto power at least 39 times in recent times. For example, in 1999, the Queen blocked the Iraq War Bill. In this bill, Parliament wanted the Queen to give it full control over the military operation in Iraq. Since the bill affected the powers of the monarch, the Queen rejected it, citing the act of "royal assent". Anyone who thinks that they [meetings] are a mere formality or social convention is deeply mistaken. In fact, they take place in a calm businesslike atmosphere, and Her Majesty always demonstrates her ability to cover a wide range of issues and her great experience. - Thatcher, Margaret For example, in 2021, Elizabeth blocked the Scottish bill. They wanted to buy lands by law, but Elizabeth simply blocked it with a veto.

@@DANSHHD I don't see any leadership skills there or in Parliament. Our leaders have no backbone and have forgotten about their duties to the British people.

@@Uniquely_L1that would be difficult because the Tory government behaves like tall brats having a temper tantrum when they don’t get their own way so if Charlie boy shook his rattle it might be a nursery fight by dummies(the things they stick in their mouths). He’s waiting calmly for this lot to go. He’s not stupid and he clearly has better advisors.

All countries have heads of state and state visits and banquets in grand buildings when foreign dignitaries are hosted. It is an important function of diplomatic relations. The royal family do it spectacularly well but fairly cheaply compared to many states.
