King Dinosaur - Atomic Age and Stone Age collide when a new planet appears in our solar system, within sight of Earth, prompting a two-man, two-woman rocket flight that finds giant animals and reptiles, some reminiscent of our planet's prehistoric monsters. A key early low budget Bert I. Gordon production with the "prehistoric monsters" played by a magnified iguana and other lizards!
1955. Stars: William Bryant, Wanda Curtis, Douglas Henderson

I was really hoping that ditzy blonde would end up as dino chow. I guess they got about 20 minutes worth of survival training. New planet, no idea what is there, so lets go for a moonlight stroll and make out. I have to say, the first part up until launch was pretty good, but having stood beside a V-2, I have to laugh at the scene of it on the pad as they get set to take off, with the guys up top of the gantry. The idea of putting 4 people in that was priceless.

My first constructive thought would be to, on landing on the island and hearing thunder, I would suspect that there would be heavy wind at some stage and I would therefore hide the dinghy behind a rock or at least anchor it securely to prevent it being blown away and prevent us returning to the mainland. It being a new planet, I would suspect everything and expect trouble at every turn.

AH, ah, ah... These old Sci-FI films are very funny. The producers would take any missile and rocket testing scene that had nothing to do with a spacecraft. The images show that the rocket (as seen by technicians descending the stairs of the towers) is no more than 2 meters in diameter. It didn't even hold one person.

@garyabbott3861 That does indeed come as a surprise. But as I only recently learned, another cold-blooded, egg-laying direct descendent of dinosaurs, with a brain the approximate size of an almond, is one of the most intelligent animals on the planet - the rough intellectual equivalent of a 7 year old human: the crow. The other members of its family, the corvids, like the kite and the raven, are practically their equals as well. There are videos here on theTube of crows solving problems that I'd swear some of the people I've known would have trouble with. So I'll take your word for that and keep my eyes open. Thanks!

This movie had a budget of $15k when it was made. My parents bought a house in the San Francisco Bay area for under $6K in the same year. Zillow now says it is worth $960k. I wish they had kept it.

You can see that they physically threw the poor iguana at the baby alligator to make them fight. So glad that kind off thing is no longer allowed for films…at least in the US.

Really? Just look on here for the bloodsport you can stomach... dogs ripping cats apart while onlookers laugh...monkeys being gobbled alive by Komodo dragons...the variety is virtually unlimited!!!!

For this "planet" to be exactly like Earth, with the very same flora and fauna, it would have had to split off from the earth some time in the past. Perhaps an asteriod side impacted with the Earth and scraped off a chunk, and now in just circling back to Earth.

So, ...... I am to assume, that the iguana took out that alligator, even though, it really looked like the alligator had won, and THEN, the iguana went on to fight another lizard......?

"Naturally, the people must be careful when using such equipment." as the movie shows a guy randomly flipping toggles and dials quickly on a truck battery sized nuclear reactor. lol. Might have to pass this one up.

l had a pet lguana named Fred. When he got too big for his cage l let him loose in my rented house where he hid in the drapes. He would come out to eat and poop. l woke up with his front legs on my chest. He would do that just before releasing a sputtering load. l think it was to let me know he now needed to be fed. 3 feet long but their mostly tail. A great pet who will recognize you.@@hydrolito

Un iguane grotesquement déguisé pour faire le tyrannosaure sur lequel on tire avec de petits pistolets, une femme savante ; manque plus que des hélicoptères, et on sera en présence d'un authentique nanar !
