I remember calling the 1900 hint lines for help it was like $5.00 a minute my father was not very happy.

After months of playing I found a Walkthrough book in our local library. Can you imagine? A little Dutch town not more than 9000 inhabitants where you could borrow this book for almost nothing... I remember the exact Sunday afternoon when I could finally go into the snowy mountains with some help of this book. And I also remember that there was a bug, I think during the "Alchemical finale" - I never got to see the dragon 😥

Fun fact! Roberta Williams, creator of the KQ series, and wife of Ken Williams, provided the voice for the mom at the bakery, one of the harpies and Queen Valanice!

Lots of scenes freaked me out in this game as a kid!! The witch randomly appearing in the scary forest made me jump! Also the blue upright alien monster in the final castle was terrifying! The castle alone was scary enough...and then that blue thing would rapidly scuttle out of the side of the screen...from any screen in the castle! I was always cringing...fearing he would catch me soon!

To this day it still upsets me that the weeping willow princess doesn't even say "thank you" to Graham.

So many fond memories of this game from my childhood. And also so many memories of me GETTING PISSED OFF BECAUSE I HAD TO START THE GAME OVER SEVERAL TIMES.

After reconnecting with a childhood friend, now in our 40s, i went down the Sierra rabbit hole starting with police quest 1-3 and now to this, which may be my fondest memory. This came on high density 3.5 disks which my 486pc wasnt equipped for, so they sent me the game on something like 12 low density disks. The game moved at a snails pace on that comp but i did have the patience to complete the game with a guide. Thanks for these 'non commentary' walkthroughs!

I remember playing this game to death and never making out of the witches forest. Months later I found a strategy guide in a bargain bin at the local video game store. I used it to finally finish the game and recall thinking to myself that I would have never beat this game without it. Enjoyable but so cryptic and frustrating.

I had the diskette version (non-voice) version of this game back when it came out. The VGA graphics were breathtaking though the sound wasn't as good as the later games that used digitized sound. Sierra games were some of the best ever. The beautiful music for Cassima was re-worked in KQ6. Have today's games lost the almost magical feeling experience they had back in the late 80s and early 90s?

Try doing all this shit in order as a 5 year old.

I never understood why people hated Cedric before hearing his voice :D Luckily I never had the voice acted version of the game. I'm surprised the quality is so low, because in Space Quest V for example it was top notch. But I guess this was their first voice acted remake?

A certain song is in my head over 10-20 years or even longer. “We’re the ants marching for king Anthony we’re going to help King Graham”. Had to use cheat codes to beat this game.

This was my first game when I bought my 286 PC for $1,000. I finished all the way through. It brings back memories from my teen years.

This was the first VGA game I ever played. 256 colors on the screen at the same time? Surely it can't get better than this!

Imagine making it to 49:45 and the Yetti kills you because, for some crazy reason, you didn't pick up the pie at the beginning of the game. That happened to me when I played this in 1993. I subsequently purchased a strategy guide that informed me of the pie's essential nature, and then I finally defeated that Yetti!

I love the final battle in this game. Clearly inspired by the wizard's duel in Sword in the Stone!

The most annoying thing about this game well besides Cedric is the many times you can reach a game ending scenario and in some cases the game won't even tell you most infamous of course is the custard pie those who have played this game know what I am talking about. You can actually eat the custard pie instead of doing what you are supposed to do with it but if you do the game is now unwinnable and you can't get another one.

I couldn't beat this game as 10-year old. Way too fucking hard. Even as an adult, I think it's quite challenging.

This was the first King's Quest I played as a child. My parents ended up getting the clue/cheat book, but it was printed as such that you needed a disk--red or blue, I forget--to read the clues, much like those old 3-D glasses.

Number 6 was THE best

This game was so frustrating. It was years before I figured out the rope goes on the ROCK not the tree branch. Somewhere at my Mom's house is a map of the desert I traded my favorite baseball card to some kid to get my hands on.

Feels like I'm watching a movie instead of a game.

I still have the CD of KQ5. It really is a great game. I never did finish it, but as I play through and/or watch these playthrough videos, it makes me think a lot about the adventure games from Sierra. I own Conquests of Camelot: Quest for the Holy Grail. It took me a full year to beat. The main reason for that is because I was stuck at the sarcophagus in the catacombs, and how to get the amulet from the mummy. But watching this particular playthrough also makes me think, there's no real like subtle hints. How am I supposed to know to knock of a piece of crystal with the hammer? You would think Graham might say something like, "Oh look at all the crystal in here" "It would be nice to get a piece of it" If that would happen, that tips me off and I go, OH!! I think I might need that for later. That is a subtle clue I am talking about, and things like that really should have been used way more often in these kinds of games. The only way you would know to do something is by trial and error. Like when that blue monster runs out. There's not one single clue that I'm supposed to throw something at it. Even if the narrator voice would say, "Uh oh" "Graham sees the monster and must act quick!" Again, that tips me off that I'm actually supposed to do something with an item. The other difficult part about this game, you need items that you use for later in the game. So, if you didn't collect an item, you're screwed. I had no idea I had to help the mouse out for it to chew through ropes later in the game. I thought to myself, well can't go in there because I get trapped and it's game over. I now see there's places you can't quite go to right away. I love adventure games, I just wish there were those types of subtle hints that would, not give away the answer, more like tip you off that you're supposed to do something important.

I think King Graham even though fictitious was a great male role model.

I'm proud to say that I figured out how to escape the witch's forest all by myself. And by "solved", I mean clicking every item in my inventory everywhere until something happened.

I had never played kings quest 1 - 5 , and played 6 when I couldn't have been more than 10. Watching these play throughs I was wondering how the hell they got from the graphics from 1 to 6... this is the game that connects them haha

Use the Items in the Wrong Situations which eventually gets you stuck later on in the Game

LOL. I forgot how painfully slow the opening sequences of this game were. It's epitomized by the scene of Krispen hobbling across the floor to the chest at about 1 frame per second. Ha! So terrible, but still a great game!

What a jump in graphics from IV to V. I never noticed as a kid. I don't think I ever finished this one. It was tough and I didn't like it as much as the earlier ones.

This was one of my first games I played back then and I loved it and finished it too, also my most favorite game back then was zelda I spend countless hours on that.

Love these old games, I was 11 when the original King's Quest came out and my cousin had it so we played it and beat it, then when he got part 2 we beat that one. My family finally got a computer around the time the 3rd game came out so I was able to play it at home, then 4 and by the time 5 came out I was a senior in high school but I made sure I got it and loved it just as much as the others. Funny how some people say this one was harder then the others when I thought it was about the same just more advanced graphics. 1-5 still hold a special place to me as I thought that was such a golden era back then for computer games and home console games. I sure am happy I got to grow up during that time frame, was my favorite time of my life.

They should make a new King's Quest that takes 500 years later where the witch seeks revenge on the Daventry lineage after getting out of the bottle.
