Here in Alaska this isn't called "fishing" it's called "flossing" which is a fancy way of saying "snagging". The fish isn't biting the fly/lure, the line floats downstream and it gets stuck in the fish's mouth. The lure is then pulled up to the mouth by the person fishing, thus snagging the fish in the side of the mouth. Technically it is illegal but so many unethical types do it it is difficult to properly enforce. So we rely on angler integrity and honesty to enforce it. Sadly, there's not much of that up here and unethical fishing, like this snagging on Ship Creek, goes unchecked. 9 out of 10 kings hooked this way are hooked somewhere other than in the mouth, usually in the belly. So the landing process basically kills them and they are forced to release a fish that has no chance of passing on its genes before it dies.

Not sure why the "net guy" didn't head a bit downstream to make the whole catching process a bit easier? just sayin'

The fisherman was at fault too. When he walked forward/downstream and got beside the net guy, it was impossible to get the fish in a good position for easy netting. I'm glad he got it though.

Because there is nowhere to go downstream. Ship creek, past this bridge, opens to the bay around Anchorage. This is at the worst of the tide going out. This river fluctuates by 15 feet in a matter of hours. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. You are dead if you slip there.

by "downsteam" we all mean 10 feet so he's around the end of the rod tip. I don't know what you think we mean.
@ericharmon71633 жыл бұрын
@@littlegoobie the guy with the rod would have to move. There is no ten feet to go left. There are the stairs, which the guy with the net is standing on, and then certain death left of those. That is what I mean. Look at the opposite bank. That is slick ass mud and clay. Notice the guy with the net is constantly looking at his footing. Because he doesn't want to die netting a fish.

Your net guy is no help at all standing there and not moving at all, you had to lift that fish into the net with the rod.
