Pick pocket keys instead of lock picking chests that are close to sleeping people! Common sense aspiring thiefs. Get items during the day when people are WORKING.

You can get the ring during the day very easily by telling the executioner that he was shorted flour. If you get back to the Miller while the executioner is still at the mill, you get to hear the miller tell him he got scammed.

This is the best tutorial on thieving I have come across, useful to know that even successful lock picks make noise and that crimes you're not caught for still have an impact. Thanks Hal

You don't have to wait until dark to get the ring from the executioner. Simply pass a speech check and tell him that the miller overcharged him for the last order he made, and he'll run all the way to Peshek's to talk to him. Then, you have approximately five minutes to pick the lock and get the ring. Pretty simple and no risk whatsoever. And the single best perk in the lockpicking skill tree is "luck of the drunk". This perks allow you to, when you drunk in any way, to pick very hard locks at level 6 lockpicking. Normally, you can only pick the locks of the trader's very hard locked chests when Henry reaches level 14 lockpicking. This way, you can make a TON of money early on as getting to level 6 can be done in Skalitz (I've done it many times in the past and picked all of the very hard locked trader chests in Skalitz).

This game really is the gift that keeps on giving. I've been wanting to play Thief (but the newest one isn't that good) and KCD is the perfect Thief game (minus the water arrows of course). 🖖

Thanks for the tip on resetting the lock until the sweet spot is closer to the center. Far out that has saved me some lockpicks (Not to mention saved me some grief too) I'm on ps4 and this tip has made lockpicking so much easier for me. Thumbs up

This week I was busy with all kinds of bullshit and I could barely get any work done on the next video. As of now, I revised the narration about 10 times, recorded it, and I captured some in-game scenes to put into the video. No telling how long the editing will take me, but if next week has less bullshit, the video should be out by wednesday. So for people who want to make a ton of fast money by stealing and doing it as quick as possible. I would generally start off by picking pesheks lock over and over until I stop leveling. The key for my strategy is the Luck of the Drunk perk. This would enable you to be better at lock picking without needing as high levels as you'd normally need. When you are high enough level I would normally go to all of the main armor and weapon shops especially the clothing shop in Rattay. Drink something to get the slightest bit drunk(savior snaps is best since it saves and should give u enough time to pick every very hard chest.) Do this at around midnight or so when there's no one there and just be careful to avoid being searched. The armor shop in particular is easy since hans Capon will give you his key to the wine cellar early in his quest line. This opens the door RIGHT NEXT TO the shops backroom with their chests. Luck of the drunk is awesome for making you better at lock picking. Since no ones around in these rooms at night, extra noise is no problem. Sell away to the millers over time and make a good chunk of coin. Overtime they will sell your fenced goods and have more money for your stolen goods next time.

I tried a thief run but pick pocket wasn’t my thing. I’d just sneak in day or night, stealth kill the inhabitants and then relax and pick away at the locks, with a speech of like 16 you can take everything and still convince guards to leave you alone down the line rather than searching you, it wasn’t easy finding the best perks for this build but Iv got more points in speech which allows me to really nick anything and talk my way out of it.

You can just tell the executioner that the miller sold him half a sack short. When it comes to the lockpicking perks, pick Luck of the Drunk, so you can level up in the outskirts on any chest. And after you have good enough stealth, and have choked people inside the target house, you can open hard and very hard locks.

You can bypass the dogs by entering through the gate at the back of the yard, it'll lead you right to the steps. :)

Another useful tip is to remember to use the training at the millers and books on thievery to increase your skill.

It is easier to get the ring of the executioner during the day. If you don't stumble in when he is eating, he will be outside of the house. Make sure that the dogs either got some meat so that they don't bark - or - well - dead dogs don't bark, and get into the house. Than, you have all the time you need to open the chest and get the key.

Great guide Halcylion, thanks for the excellent video. If you don't mind I have a couple of lockpicking tips for any console players like me, because I found trying to rotate both sticks independently that precisely to be infuriating compared to pc, it's like trying to rub your belly and pat your head at the same time, while riding a unicycle. First, for anyone struggling with this like I was, on the PS4 or Xbox versions go into settings and change it to simplified lockpicking. No more rotating the left stick, all you have to do is press L1 or RB to move the lock. Then you only have to worry about keeping the right stick on the sweet spot. Much easier. Then, when you begin a lockpicking attempt, set your controller down on your lap or something and use your thumb and index finger to pinch the right stick, like you're opening a safe dial. To me, it is a lot easier to keep the reticle in the sweet spot that way as it turns, because you can be much more precise. Lastly, I 100% agree with the tip in the video about backing out and resetting until the sweet spot is where you want it. For me, I also find it much easier near the center, especially on console where it's already less precise than using a mouse. Doing all that made lockpicking on consoles much easier, and I never had a problem with it again

Some tips relevant to things he said in this video: 1. If you steal something that is worth a lot of money, it will take more time for that item to be not marked as stolen. To remove the stolen marker on an expensive item (high-end items can take a very long time to clear, may not even if you play the whole story) you can sell it to a Miller. For example, I stole the Nuremburgian Cuirass from the Ledetchko Bailiff. Not wanting to have it confiscated if I were caught by a Rattay guard, I sold it to Miller Peshek and bought it back from him. Beware as buying it back can be expensive even if you sell it to him for little money. Also, storing stolen items in your chest doesn't work. Keep them on your horse or your inventory for the timer to actually take place. 2. You don't have to sneak in and steal the ring from the executioner. Simply bring 20 groschen and pass the speech check (his speech level is level one or two, meaning you can pass it as soon as you wake up in Rattay.) You can choose an approach - play on the executioner's feelings, simply tell him you want it and pay 20 groschen, or tell him that Peshek cheated him out of flour and he will leave his property, giving you time to break in and steal the ring. Hope these tips help!

luck of the drunk is absolutely essential it allowes you to pick EVERY lock easily at level 6 it even allows you to attempt locks that are normakly too dificult to unlock.

For lockpicking, best perk early on is luck of the drunk, it says that it makes locks 30% easier to pick, but I reality it reduces required level by 3 times, so at level 6 (when you can pick this perk) you can open any lock, acording to wiki some very hard locks require 15 level in lockpicking, but with this you can open them right away

For stealing the ring, if you go through the woods to the back entrance of the executioner's compound, the dogs don't notice you. And whenever I've played, his front door was always wide open. I'd sneak in and knock him out while he's in bed, steal his keys and then his stuff. No lockpicking required.

The easiest way to level pickpocketing is renting the room in Uzhitz. At 1am your 'room mate' will be fast asleep. Knock him out and clean out his inventory. At the same time put one or two expensive pieces of armour *into* his inventory (reverse robbing). Now crouch behind the courtain infront of your bed, press t and fast forward 1 hour. After a few seconds, the victim will wake up, climb down the ladder and back up again and go to sleep. Now you do a save and pickpocket the two items out of him again. The more expensive they are the more XP you get.

The lockpicking almost drove me insane in this game. I failed that first chest in Skalitz so many times... With practice it actually gets pretty easy. Just drink a saviour schnapps before you try a hard lock. I think it's easier to turn on simplified lockpicking in the settings on PS4. All it does is make L1 the button to turn the lock. They say it's a lot easier with a mouse on PC. After turning on simplified lockpicking I'll also set the controller down on my leg and hold the right stick with my thumb and index like 👌 because it gives you a lot more control over the stick. I've heard people say they quit the game because of how high the learning curve is. I gotta say, it's definitely harder to learn than picking most locks irl but it's nice to have a lock picking minigame that actually takes skill.

you can still fence stuff at peshek if you pay the debt. i walked up to talmberg, got ancient map 3, bought a horse from uzhitz and paid the miller and apothecary with what i had left.

You can actually do it during the day by telling the executioner that the miller owes him half a sack of flour. The executioner will run off and you can dig the grave the ring won't be on the body so you find it in one of the chest in the house

I just got the game recently and quickly leveled my lock picking. I'm playing on PS4, so, controller, and in my experience, because I'm playing with a controller, I've found lock picking is absolutely easiest when the sweet spot is on the far outer edge, as keeping an analogue stick fully tilted while rotating it is far and away easier than keeping it partially and precisely tilted while rotating it :D

Just get the "luck of the drunk" perk around lvl 6 and at night lockpick the door to Pesheks secret chest and his chest and you are now rich. You can also go and steal all the stuff from the armored and swordsmith and sell it to Peshek and then steal it from him ending in an endless cycle of you enriching yourself.

This game is so deep, even after 250 hrs and hardcore pacifist walkthrough I still want to replay it sometime. I think you forgot to mention poisoning, it may weaken recipient's speech skills, making it convenient to haggle with robbed merchants after evidence-free wealth redistribution spree. There is also a set of cool potions to poison everyone with! Need to rob bandit/cuman camp? Put some heavy alcohol on arrows and shoot their legs, then flee and return for the purses of weakened taffers.

Your analysis of hardcore mode and trader reputation was INCORRECT. It simply takes much longer to accomplish to raise your reputation.

quick tip for xbox and ps4, i know we have trouble with turning with the analog stick, to much iffy movements, so go into game settings and switch the lockpicking to simplified, makes it WAY easier!!

I never bothered to learn pickpocket. Just knock people out and take ALL of their stuff.

You can sell stolen goods for millers around the map if you do thief quest. idk if that was added later on as that video was made.

Easiest way to train lock picking: near Peszek there is a shop neighbor. Go there at dusk and lock pick their door (very easy, care for their dog). Whistle and run off. Someone will check outside and get back inside. The lock will be in place again. Spam till dawn.

or rather than walking slowly just do it as i do. get inside, knock the person(don't strangle him to death) and do your job nice and easy. oh yeah, a nice tip : if you want to raise your sneak skill easily just knock the warfare people who came across you in the paths

Finally someone reccomends Trojan, my horse to go in the game. Regarding pickpocketing, if the victim wakes up while pickpocketing, immediatly press knock out and you'll be good to go. Also if you want to level up stealth fast in hardcore mode, after you pickpocketing someone, knock out the victim it will give you lots of stealth xp.

The other way is lock pic into the house. Hide in the shadows and do a silent take down. Rob him and take all he has with his keys.

Going into the executioners house at night is about the worst thing you can do, it's much much easier during the day. Either send him to the mill by talking to him, or just slip into the house while he's around the corner. If you want to go at night, just knock him out in his bed and he won't wake up to your noise. Also while low noise is important for stealth, the right perk points are much more important. Of course you can't get them right away, but later on its possible to have armour that's good for sneaking and still has amazing protection. If you go for a zero noise set, you will have almost no protection and if you get spotted you can only run. I have an armour set that I wear at all times, I don't change for sneaking or combat, it is just slightly lower armour value than the best armour pieces you can get, but through perks it's pretty low noise at 31. I can easily sneak into bandit camps or houses without alerting anyone. It's also very low visibility, but then if something goes wrong and a bandit on patrol sees me, I can fight because I have really good armour. :)

Rather than selling stolen goods to millers, i actually just dump them into my personal chest, the one near your owned bed. Millers don't have as much gold as traders, they also buy things for much less, which is fair considering it is stolen goods. Wait a few days and the stolen tag will be gone and can be sold as normal. The time it takes to lose the stolen status depends on the value of the item, more expensive items will take a longer time.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a proper hardcore play through of the story, maybe not as a dedicated upload but every now and then.

So annoying that there is two tiers of the "Very hard" locks, with level 15 lockpicking I can open some "Very hard" lock but not others.

so in hardcore mode the guards search your horse when they search you? they dont in the regular difficulty, so i always store stolen goods on my horse when i go into town. havent started a hardcore play through and thatd change a lot when i do lol

I kept getting searched during my first play through because of all the roadside knights I choked unconscious. For some reason now nothing has happened when I knock people out. Even did it to the Talmberg stonemason to get that 3k groschen I paid him back immediately after paying him. Went to check if he was hostile after someone else woke him up and he paid no attention to the fact that I just walked behind him and then somebody, definitely not me, knocked him out.

1:23 you can also tell him that he only got half of something he bought so he runs off to sort that out while you can sneak in just talk to him I did it at night when he stepped outside

Very hard locks are not always the same. There are many hard locks that can only be opened at level 15 (or, level 10 + the thieve potion, don't know the english name of it as I play the german version). With level 10, it is for example impossible to open any chest of merchants.

16:24, I did something similar in my first playthrough. I was stealing from people in Ledetchko and thought, "yeah I'll just knock these two out and loot everything." Accidentally held L1. Went to prison.

i purposely aggro'd the dogs so he'd come outside and unlock the doors and then killed the executioner before he could attack. then I put him back in bed so it would look natural, despite the massive stab wounds. then I took a 6 hour nap and had some stew.

Wait so the more I pickpocket someone, the harder it will become to pickpocket them again? Guess that explains why I kept failing with the Miller that teaches me pickpocketing.

I never bother pickpocketing since If I manage to break into those filthy greedy artisans houses, I will just knock them out and take their keys. My step for get rich early and get good armor early game is: 1/ Get lock pick to lvl 6 as quick as I can, get 2 essential perks 2/ break into artisans house. 3/ Knock out artisans and take their keys 4/ Loot everything in their trunks (things that they wear) then let them greeting customer in their underwear the following day. 5/ either sell it to miller for additional early gold or store them in trunks and wait for them to time out When you notice how those artisans you rob have their clothes respawn (1~2 game days), repeat step 1=>5 for purely profits and early gears

or just level speech and lockpick and pickpocket everything and everyone without sneaking. When a guard comes just tell them you are on a secret mission

When I build up a big stash of stolen loot I just carry it all to Peshek’s chest at the mill. When I come back to it in a few days he has sold it all and I just take all the coin.

12:40 an aside on horses; I avoid Trojan and low courage horses. Too many deaths from being thrown from the horse. Schlemig (spelling might be off) is a better buy at Neuhof to start.
