the game is fantastic, the realism's next lvl (especially for a last gen game), and even without its extensive library of mods its replayability is off the charts

⁠there are a lot of games like crusader kings where you start as royalty, but generally in games you’re a superhuman like master chief or link or some big hero whereas in KCD you’re truly a nobody, and not just by name, the game really makes you feel like a nobody getting better at skills you’ve never done before

This is something only few games do right. You can actually feel how both you and Henry progress through the game.

Am I the only one who thinks the exact opposite of that? All that matters is your level of perks. The individual persons skill has absolutely no effect in the game

@@vladorkiba1718 Nah you're right. Perks definitely help a lot, but the player still improves a lot imo over the course of the game

This isn't a skill game, it's a stat game. Bigger number better.

@@vladorkiba1718 dunno maybe you're a very quick learner but I struggle with stuff like blocking so much that the amount of practice I got during the leveling up actually helped me out a lot

I didn't know it was a thing till 8 months after I bought it and saw a video about it.

I think you’re not really supposed to get caught because Henry goes “surely you can let one of Sir Radzig’s men off the hook” Henry having neither met Sir Radzig (his real dad) let alone become his retainer but you do die in that jail so maybe they cut out an alternate criminal path where you escape that jail because of the mercenary invasion and you have no loved ones you’re forced to care about you just go straight to your lord but the whole game is very much centered around Henry’s dedication his neighbors and this is compounded by the very existence of his character arc he’s not a blank slate

Based on Steam achievement stats, about 1 in 5 players end up in prison during that intro sequence. ...I was one of them. Trying to steal my father's axe back from that bastard debtor who won't pay up.

I knew next to nothing about the game when got it this year and I was expecting native Czech and German and recoiled at how disgustingly English the game was like I thought it’d be like Iron Harvest and what is now Last Train Home (another Czech game of course) and have a good mix of languages and *maybe* a media colonizer option

​@@Otterdisappointment there's over 100h of dialogue, they only had money for 1 language at the release. There is Czech dubbing now but I don't know how you install it. I'm happy with the English version.

@@OtterdisappointmentYeah, in Czech republic the game recived some bad rewiews for not heaving a czech voice acting and the game recived czech voice acting in 2022.

It really is a phenomenally immersive game. I was genuinely sad when I beat it the first time. I didn't want it to be over.

I think NPCs tend to respawn on a 10 day cycle.

@@t00nfish apologies, guards have their own respawn rules. They are more like "on demand" spawning. You can't clear them away. Normal citizens, though, take time to come back.

Try becoming max level in the intro. It’s a hell of a ride. But when you are out… BOOOM

It really is a great game

It was not slept on. It got praise from everyone when it came out despite the bugs. It's just pretty difficult and slow so it's not for everyone

I got sorta used to it to a point where I go cocky and lost the one lockpick the miller gives you on a hard chest I needed to open for a quest

The devs did a tonne of research, including contracting historians and architects to make it as close as they could within reason. I've visited the small town that was once Skalitz during a holiday. Only around 600 people live there according to the locals.

It's a straight up history class textbook if you read through the codex.

I used to steal a bow and murderize the sheep by the training ground so I could acually hit things while hunting right out of the tutorial lol.

While that is perfectly true, it's also one of the few things that are completely crazy about this game.

@@jayceegenocide4402 some guards have bows. Get strength up from picking plants and knock one out and take it. The guard by kunesh standing by wall has one. Walk past him to the guy farming then turn around and sneak up behind him. Save fist guards break free a lot.

​@@tekken.universal2343You have to avoid combat until you're a trained swordsman via training with captain Bernard mostly, but also defeating enemies. The game is a series of Stat checks and that's what determines successful or unsuccessful strikes in combat

Skyrim blows that's why And I've put 100s of hours into Oblivion and half as much into Morrowind I actually said the same thing as the video maker, that KCD reminds me of Oblivion

*First 10 minutes? You're not even surviving basic combat encounters **_10 hours in._* Except for the bandits loitering around Skalitz, lmao. I appreciate the realism and the dedication to the grind, tho. So I'm tryna stick with it, but I honestly can't blame anyone who couldn't handle the whiplash. *It took me **_FIVE tries_** just to beat Kunesh on Hard.* That realization of *_"Oh shit. I'm not "The Chosen One"._* *_I'M JUST SOME SCRUB!"_* can be quite the kick in the nads for folk.

Making you work for it was a major strength of the game. And even when you get good at the combat, there still remains risk. Even when I could take out whole Cuman camps with ease, I still had to flee certain fights due to overconfidence/ carelessness or just getting surrounded. While I could still dominate most encounters, it felt earned.

@@Jamushu A huge tip for this is just like a real soldier, train. Once Captain Bernard gives you your initial training to work with the Bailiff, you get the option to go train with him any time during the day you want. You can pay him to just immediately increase your skills, or you can spar with him to level your skills naturally. If you spend even just a day or two (in-game) sparing with him, he'll quickly get you up to snuff with the basics of what you need to survive in actual combat with low skilled opponents. Then you can do bandit hunting missions for him to get even more experience, as well as money to buy gear with and train even more. I believe this was the intended way the developers wanted you to do it, but left you to discover for yourself that maybe you should spend some time practicing before trying it for real.

@@austinseven4720 The game definitely never loses that necessity for strategy with each encounter. Even late game when you're really powerful, some camps are still really difficult to clear without employing a dagger, poison, a bow, or even all three.

I almost felt sorry for the Cumans later in the game, for having to fight Henry at his peak.

Makes you wonder, though, if his mother is actually the one who died in the skalitz raid. It's still funny that Martin may have raised him, thinking he was his.

@@LectricLetus Yes, Henry's mom was his real mom. As for Martin knowing Henry is Radzig's son or not, that's unclear.

@@AlphaQHard Bro doesnt know a single thing about this game. Plus that's gotta be the hardest bait comment I have ever read in my life. The story is nice, the gameplay is 10/10 and the loading time is perfect (I got a PC that's like 8 years old and it runs perfectly even with mods). Edit: The world building and the combat is 11/10 realism and the level up mechanic is peak.

@@derlitter8525 The janky target tracking is definitely super realistic. I often lose track of my opponent when Im fighting someone in real life. Im serious about this game being bad, but considering its done by a small newbie team then I guess its pretty good. I just don’t understand people who glaze this game like its the best thing since sliced bread when it has a ton of issues and is mediocre at best.

The combat is the one thing I don't like as much as other things I still like it because if you don't have Master striking your combos gets parried by anybody

The Radzig story arc is the best
