Isn't it funny how sora is literally fighting himself and that they're both voiced by the same voice actor?

I’ve found that Vanitas is left open after he does his whole Keyblade surfing phase. Also, if he does his Fireball rain (the ones he does after he dives in the ground) and he does not teleport to strike you after his third jump, he is also left open and you can Airstep towards him or Air Slide, but be careful not to get hit by the last few fireballs. Lastly, if you fail to do a reprisal on him after his triple white beam slashes but did manage to block all of them, you can Thunder him after he cartwheels back and he will stagger. This allows you to Airstep then combo him.

The way Vanitas' battle quotes come out just sound like he is trying to decide on a tone but he just can't so he just alternates between his tones of voice.

You can actually skip the DM, when he's starting to ride on the keyblades you have a 1-2 second chance to attack him to skip the phase entirely (also works for the keyblade ride attack before his DM)

I like how he takes a leaf out of Vergil's playbook and does three teleporting downward slashes in a row. Also apparently it's possible to intercept Vanitas just before he hops onto the keyblades, preventing the attacks related to it altogether (the player just happened to be near him with Ultimate Form to smack Vanitas before he hopped on), although intercepting it safely is another story.

Picked up a couple of tips with this vid! Finally got to the second phase but decided I needed some help haha Def gonna get rid of aerial dodge and change my counter after this.

I can get through all of this guy’s patterns except his clone phase. I always trip up at the clone phase because of how demanding it is compared to the rest of the fight.

from what I could see, Vanitas is among the ones with the most openings, with just the fireball sequence and the teleportation combo not having clear windows, but even his Keyblade Surfing leaves a chance

Hey just so you know, you can dodge-roll in towards him when he teleports four times after shooting the first two fire bursts and get a combo in. This will ALSO skip the rest of the fire bursts, moving him straight to the next attack. He’ll only stagger when his animation finishes, however, so it’s important not to get *too* hasty

To anyone reading this: You can actually skip Vanitas’ keyblade surfing phase if you air step to him and attack him before he starts riding. This also applies to his DM phase, which can also be skipped by the same method.

Tip: •in the first phase he has 4 moves 1 these weird swordbeams -you can either dodge or block them. blocking is the safe way cuz u can keep your distance and air step to him after his 6th slash for a juicy combo 2 raining fireballs -again: either dodge or blocking them, imo blocking is better cuz i got hit so many times by one stupid fireball even when i dodged away + if u block and delay ur counter u can punish him immediately. 3 launching fireballs - dodging is for pro player only here haha. so rather block the first 4 and use multifocus for slowmo, he always teleports far to the left, be quick and air step to him for a juicy combo. 4 teleport into quick attacks -this one is a bit tricky and hard to block, but u get use to his pattern. he always goes: 1hit, 2hits, 1hit - reappearing,vanshing, 1hit, 1hit apart from the fact that he can use these 4Moves in any order, he can mix things up for the 4th move: after u successfully blocked his hits, he can either go into move 1 again or can strike from above 3 OR 4 time, where the last strike will freeze u if u dont block, so block them and het a free combo after that aswell. HE ALWAYS wants to ride his Keyblade after he has done all of his 4 moves (again, the order can always be different) In the first phase he shoots ice at you in the second phase he will dm BUT if u know that he used his 4 moves u can predict his jump and cancel his keyblade ride by either air stepping to him for a juicy combo or just cast magic but i feel like air step is safer cuz of slowmo i am still studying his second phase so no tips for that sadly :(

Got Vanitas down to two health bars. Got the form change for my keyblade the Grand chef. When Vanitas spam attacks you nonstop and you block his attacks. The shield will adsorb all the damage and you can hit with a powerful counter attack! (It was enough to take down Vanitas's last health bar.) Hero's Origin also as this same effect I believe.

You could probably bring the time down to two minutes if you attack him before he uses his DM/flying key combo. He's very vulnerable then.

At 3:50 when he shoots fire and then pauses for 2 seconds, I found out that instead of blocking, you can dodge roll toward him, ignore the fireball, and land a free combo on him as well

No forge the keyblade combo :( but still these bosses are hype

For anyone having trouble: If he starts with the white slices, just guard and immediately counter kick. It will carry enough to hit him out of his attack animation and allow for a combo. His fireball combo can be interrupted by waiting after the first two volleys. Wait for the double "too slow" and guard the quick blast and immediately use a reprisal to avoid having to deal with the rest of the attack. The timing for the regular keyblade surfing is tight, but it must be possible at least Thundaga him out of it. (I haven't done it, but maybe I just need to git gud) His DM is a lot more telegraphed, so just be cognizant of his HP barrier. With six bars depleted, he'll warp close to the center and then warp to the center. A well timed Thundaga or an airstep should knock him out of that.

Perhaps its a bit of a risky strat, but there is a window right before Vanitas jumps on the swarm of keyblades where you can hit him and cancel the move, after which he will usually attempt to do it again. I looped his phase two using this method, never saw the DM once.

Finishing the fight with Light is just a final slap in the face to Vanitas after missing every attack and getting stomped out by Sora.

The part where he goes up in the sky the second time. Holy shit I don't know if I could ever block and dodge all that

I just beat Vanitas (on proud mode) and there is an easier way to dodge his ice magic and keyblade cloud. When he gets on the keyblades and is flying around, double jump and fly in the direction of the tail of Vanitas keyblades. You won't have to dodge his ice blasts at all. On the final part of the sequence where he fires 5 ice blasts and sends the keyboards after you, airdodge THROUGH the keyblades. You will land very close to vanitas and can go into a combo from there.

Shame Vanitas didn't get a remix of his battle theme, most other fights did. Then again there's not much you can improve on Enter the Darkness, but I was hoping for something more like Enter the Void (best KH track don't @ me). Anyway, fantastic fight. Looks so fun and cinematic, not to mention fair. Any guard fails so far?

I found that you can stop Vanitas from riding the keyblades by hitting him before he jumps on them. Also once he does his charge while riding the keyblade you have a chance of landing a combo on him the second he hits the ground.

The combat feels smoother anf faster

Tips: Retaliate after : the drop attack with ice The triple beam slashes 3rd Dark deep firaga During the fireball spam block AFTER he says "too slow" the second time You can Completly cancel his DM(the keyblade surfing) with a fast enough shotlock ever after and the hero one have instant damage lvl 1 shotlock. It will make his DM'S skippable. And just be patient on his 2nd phase wait the openings like drop attack with ice and tripleslashes.
