But that’s what makes the Apes franchise (so far) different than its peers like Star Trek and Star Wars, it’s largely unexplored expanded universe and a lack of story wide main characters or families. Also, it’s a series that is not afraid to be a downer in a proto-Game of Thrones way.

Amen! I loved the first hour of the movie, didn't care much for the next hour or so. And I did like the slow pacing. I only got bored when they got to Proximus' camp. That's where the plot took a wrong turn for me, it became very standard and predictable, compared to what could have been. More Proximus, more intersting plot, more meaningful storyline. The boss fight was really nicely done though.

I felt like every scene was necessary and it didn’t lull you to sleep because it honestly went by fast. But I believe the lead up to meeting Proximus and his kingdom had you expecting so much. The kingdom seemed scattered and not put together at times. For apes to have been ruling that long and to now be enslaving and killing other apes, you’d think there would be more of a focus on the sheer size and strength of Proximus’ army. As well as a glimpse on how he ruled. It was also much too easy for Noa to successfully destroy what they had built imo.

The pace matches Rise, which I know a lot of people say is their least favorite of the trilogy because it's slower in pace. It's creeping, crawling, slower about Caesar ... until it explodes at the end. The Simian flu and its impacts aren't introduced until the credits, and I think that's what makes it amazing. It is a perfect establishing film for the beginning of a great trilogy. You had to see how we got there and what Caesar went through and his vision. How he befriended and freed these apes. That's what I think Kingdom is doing. Slower to show you the new world we have entered. And then we will really pick up in the next two. That's what makes me so excited for this new trilogy. Seems to match the other one, pace wise.
@boreopithecus
@boreopithecus Ай бұрын
I don’t agree, I think Rise was very fast paced and only has the bare essentials it needs; if anything it’s too fast paced. It has scenes that combine two or more events into one, like Caesar’s mother breaking into the conference room in the beginning at the exact moment when James Franco’s character is pitching the drug to the board, a ridiculous coincidence and obviously done to save time. And there are many more examples like that. You couldn’t cut/speed up Rise much more without having it feel too cartoony. With Kingdom you could have gotten rid of a lot of the eagle clan stuff, or killed off all the villagers except Noa, and it probably would have both shortened and improved the movie. With Rise I don’t think there’s anything you could have cut without hurting the film; if anythjng it needs more footage, like a scene where Caesar gives the drug to the zoo apes, which he must have done since they’re smart but they never show it.

I like Kingdom but I had two major problems: 1) The Main Human Character we follow, Mae, I think she felt underdeveloped to me for some reason. Like I get her motives and all but it felt like she needed more. Frank Gallagher, Trevathan, himself had a small role but he felt like a more interesting character than her 2: Proximus Caesar showed it in like the last 40 minutes of the movie and though he was a very menacing villain and ape character, he just didn’t get enough screen time for me to like him more than I did.

proximus was menacing i guess? but he was also pretty stupid in his actions, hes supposed to be smart but he acts like a moron for example at the end where he starts beating the shit out of noah which i can get but also his entire tribe is there like what did he think was going to happen

I’ve watched the trilogy reboot. While i thought dawn and war were masterpieces kingdom felt like one of the og pota movies. The trilogy is like roman literature and mythology. it shows how the society evolved to where apes were dominant and humans were diseased and became “echoes”. but kingdom did a great job of tying the trilogy to a world more like the og movie series. I hope the next movie continues this progress bc now that the human can communicate and the apes discovered the telescope i’d like to see what the next 50- few hundred years look like. Such an amazing series.

This movie excels at sprinkling in questions to pique your interest, then gradually unraveling the answers in creative ways as the plot progresses. It makes for a surprisingly engaging watch. My only real complaint is that the story has a lot of "been there, done that" elements from other movies, and Proximus Caesar is criminally underutilized as an antagonist. The idea of an ape king twisting the words of Caesar to serve his own malicious desires is an incredible concept I wish was explored more. Overall though, I loved Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (it's not as good as Dawn or War, but it's at least on par with Rise)

This movie was so average, nothing new, nothing interesting, just super safe. The fact that it came after a perfect trilogy makes it even worse. If you randomly pause in any scene from the previous three movies I guarantee you'll find something more interesting, compelling, creative and visually beautiful than anything in this one.

While I find the recent ape movie all over the place when it come to pacing I wish they'd drop the longer action scene as some elements of the world like the relationship between Proximus's apes and the mute human. Every movie covers very wide themes and I often feel frustrated when they rush it. The ideas are so deep they deserve it.

I feel like im on crazy pills cus nobody agrees with me but I absolutely LOVED the first hour of world building and was kinda dissapointed once we got into stupid fast human drama again. Proximus felt wasted because suddenly rather than exploring this character and his kingdom he had to be the villain and die, it felt like checking off necessary narrative elements while the first part of the movie felt magical
