After Dr Weiss shot Huey, they took him to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital near the Capitol building. When my mother first came to Louisiana in 1946, she went to work at Our Lady of the Lake. The first night she was there the other nurses told her, “Miss Jan, you see that room there. That’s where Huey P Long Died.

I’m just finishing going through all of Goodmans movies I haven’t seen. This one might not be the best, being Swedish Huey P Long isn’t within my familiarity, though his social ideas might be.

i am from Central Louisiana. A good friend's grandfather, John H. Overton, served with Huey in the 30's in the U.S. Senate. i saw a film several ysars ago where there was good arguments that Huey had been accidently shot by one of his body guards, and not the Doctor. I am sorry i don't have the details of the film right now. i remember Broderick Crawford playing Willie Stark, the Huey Long character, in Robert Penn Warren's ALL THE KING'S MEN. Good movie.

PS. Both U.S. Senators Elect were delayed in going to Washington DC and taking office. They were both charged with voter fraud. They were eventually cleared and went to Washington. Senator Overton served until his death in 1949. An LSU Professor, T. Harry Williams, wrote a Huey Long biography. i still have it somewhere. i must have read it around 1970.

There was the story that at one of the Kingfish's stump stops, a little kid says something like....Well, i see the Kingfish, but where's Amos ? On another one, Huey was shaking a little kid's hand and asking him, son, how's your granddaddy? The little kid says, well, he's "daid" (dead). Then the kid goes around to the other side of the crowd and Huey shakes his hand again, not remembering him. Huey asked him son, how's your granddaddy. The kid says, well, he's still "daid."

I've gone across the Huey P. Long bridge on a train headed to L.A. several times. They always announce the name of the bridge and give a brief history of who Huey was. I just found out he had Charity hospital built and the parrish he was born in was a Union stronghold during the CW. His son, in Congress years after his father's assassination, gave Americans the earned income tax credit. I believe every politician has an Achilles heel A man with flaws, Huey accomplished so much that benefitted all people, in some instances by default. One thing for sure things can be done if those in power choose to do it!

John Goodman deserved/ deserves more credit for this role🤔. Additionally, would it have been better if Huey Long hadn't met the fate he did? Finally, Some of his rhetoric, some of the points he made...they do seem particularly relevant here in modernity.

At least this has been downloaded; for some reason Kingfish movie was removed from lionheart filmworks, and I'm not sure why. Lots of people should watch this movie, whether they click like or dislike.

This film portrays him as more of a corrupt dictator than a people's hero. Yes, his methods were questionable but ultimately, he was helping the poor. He was fighting big money before Bernie made it cool.

@@mailman5043 He was a "left-wing populist member of the Democratic Party." I would absolutely say he's a social democrat. His plan was to "Share Our Wealth" and he wanted "Every Man a King". He was a radical populist. Name one policy position of his that seems "centrist" to you. "An ardent enemy of corporate interests, he championed the "little man" against the rich and privileged."

@@JamieDallas So it seem but he dislike both democrats and Republicans, describing them as "high popalorum and low popahirum, one will skin you from ankle up and another from the ear down" There's a reason why his idea is called Longism and not Social Democracy he was compared to Mussolini and Hitler, not saying that he was a fascist but he believed that use of authorithy is justified to get shit done He credited his policy to the Bible and the declaration of independance, was anti-marxist and support a Christian society sounds conservative to me and in Long's later career he backed away more and more from the Democrat and was becoming more known for his share our wealth movement .... man back then in Louisiana it was not Democrat vs Republican but Long vs Anti-Long I mean look at how he got killed he passed a bill to oust a judge from the Democrat party and the son in law of the judge shot him

What a lame ending .. where is the scene where he gets shot? Goodman said in an interview later on they filmed it .. although he also said it was filmed in such a way (i.e. angle) you couldn't tell whether Dr. Weiss had shot him or his own bodyguards accidentally..

The assassination occurs at 12:25, after Huey has finished railroading the legislature into gerrymandering Pavey out of his Judicial District. Then Huey's story is told in flashback from 1919 onwards. It's left an open question whether Weiss manages to get off a shot at Huey, he seems to be fumbling to get the gun out of his pocket, then Huey is wounded as his guards open fire.

Sorry, but Mr. Goodman doesn't convince me of the part .. For starters, HPL was NOT that corpulent .. A better choice for the role, IMHO, would have been Karl Malden .. or even Jackie Gleason (before he put on his excess weight) ..
