Anytime we consider conquest we have to also consider what became of the non fighting people who were conquered as there aren't very many records of mass graves of entire cities and few records of cities being wiped out in totality which means those people very likely were enslaved afterwards. France, back then when forming, was fighting off the remnants of Rome, Germanic Tribes, northmen of course, Iberian peninsula fighters, north African fighters and the list goes on and on and yet they were able to retain large numbers of fighting men and continued to grow their boundaries which points to the very likely potential of slave incorporation. We know the northmen took slaves, we know the Moors ravaged that area and took Christian slaves, we know Germanic tribes took slaves so I think it is very safe to assume that ancient Francia did as well. It simply was the way of things back then. It's a good point though. We have so much lost history don't we.

That's what Rollo meant when he said "Because I'm in the position to do so" because he could give the command to slaughter them all and they could do nothing about it.
