I am a 67 year old ARMY and trust me when I say that this group of young men are the most talented creative and inspiring artists that have come into the lives of many when this world needed them the most. Their fans called ARMY are so diverse from different ages to different nationalities. Just a friendly warning though. ARMY is sometimes over protective of these wonderful young men but don't take it personally ... they are just that passionate about this group called BTS.

Welcome to the BTS rabbit hole. They have something for everyone. They don't really have a genre. There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. I'm 53 and am fully obsessed with their music not to mention they are just good humans. The song is about how everyone battles with the good and evil inside of them. Here are some songs to check out. Boy with Love, Fake Love, Mic Drop, Black Swan, DNA, Dynamite (it's all in English), Fire. That should get you started but their catalog is huge. Enjoy!!!!

"Demian" by Hermann Hesse is a little more complex than that. It is about growing up without bowing under the demands of earthy or relgious rulership but under knwoledge of the philosopher Frierich Nietzsche and psychologist Carl Jung. We have a Nietzsche quote in it's original German over the mirror: "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." It's about creativity. Another infamous quote is "God is dead". Both the world of light and the world of dark needs to be embraced to archieve individuation and grow up. You need both. There are more quotes in the short films etc. It's - like the rest of BTS discography - a story of coming of age. 💜

This video is inspired by the classic novel, Damien, by Herman Hesse, which explores the concept of temptation. (Whenever you see green, it signifies corruption. It is usually smoke or liquid.) There is so much symbolism in this video that references the book. In this video, the older members are corrupting the younger members. Jin is the oldest member and “main character” here. He keeps being presented with choices. The black door or the white door, etc. In the end, you see the younger members have green on them, meaning they gave in. And then, Jin also gives in by kissing the statue of Abraxas. His face cracking is the sign of his corruption. I hope this all makes sense. BTS songs are all super deep and filled with symbolism.

It's not "corruption": it's growing up/embracing both worlds - the one of light AND the world of dark because the world holds both. It's about archieving "individuation"/independent self. "Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid" has a good explained vid to the song/MV.

I feel like corruption isn’t the right word. It’s about balancing oneself. Everyone has both stability and chaos within them, and Demian is about how that balances as you grow up. Demian wasn’t evil and he didn’t “corrupt” Sinclair, he guided him to learn more about the world and accept all parts of himself.

Blood, Sweat and Tears is based in the book Diamen by the German writter Hermann Hesse about a young boy who has to face temptation, loss of innocence and growing up. Every thing in the MV has many different images of temptation, facing evil, growing up.Even when Jungkook is on that swing there's a huge painting of the Fall of Icrus who gave into the sin of Pride by flying to close to the Sun in Greek Mythology and the Sun melted his wings so he fell back to earth and was killed. RM quotes from the Book but he give the English quote 'Heto was the first......' Yes they can all sing including the 3 Rappers. All 7 are bascially solo artists with their own solo work. Every one is a Song Writer, Composer and Producer but each one to a greater or lesser extent. Oh yes and they are all Dancers. Most of the members can play at least one musical instrument. Both Rapper Suga and Vocalist Jin have played Piano and Guitar on stage.

Yes they are good looking. Yes the MV itself is fabulous. Yes they dance. But their music and their lyrics are what keeps us coming back. They have 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, and their music is so diverse! Their discography is HUGE and they mostly sing about real stuff instead of romance and typical bubble gum pop. They were the ultimate underdogs in kpop and now they are the biggest in the world. No exaggeration. They write and produce a lot of their songs themselves also. Not everything, of course. They're too busy conquering the world. 🤣💜 If you would like to know more about them watch Taylor's Guide to BTS, the Bangtan 7. It's long but Army (the fandom name) likes long videos. If you want to jump straight into the music I would recommend Fake Love, ON Kinetic Manifesto, or Outro Tear (no MV, but there is a video of this live in concert with Eng subs) with just the rap line. Three totally different songs from different genres as a sample of their diversity. 💜 If you need to pause to say something, go ahead. Army likes to hear your thoughts, and we don't like you to miss anything.

Sorry for the long comment btw! Bts are a 7 member group. 3 rappers (Rm, Suga, J-hope) and 4 vocalists (Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook). They can all dance but the dance line consists of (j-hope, jimin, v, and jungkook). J hope was originally a hip hop dancer and widely known for his skills and Jimin was a top student at his art school and he majored in modern and contemporary dance. Rm and Suga were underground rappers before joining bts. Bts were originally a hip hop group that is why their discography is very hip hip oriented. They write, produce, and compose their songs (with the help of their lovely team ofc). Suga is the main producer of the group and has even won awards as a producer for other artists. Rm writes most of their songs and he is called a poet by critics and his lyrics for their song ‘spring day’ has even been recognized by the Korean government as poetry. They are extremely talented and kind, they write about mental health, societal issues, self love, and many other topics. They have been in the industry for over 10 years and have won over 1000 awards. They spoke 3 times at the UN general assembly. They’ve even won awards from the government for spreading Korean music and culture across the world. They were appointed by the South Korean president as special presidential envoys for future generations and culture and they were given diplomatic passports. With their success they contribute about 5 billion dollars each year to the South Korean economy or around half a percent of the country's entire economy. They’ve spoken at the White House about Asian inclusion and anti Asian hate crimes. They are the biggest group in the world at the moment and are even bigger than what the Beatles were!! They truly bring me so much joy and happiness and they have this unbreakable bond with army (their fandom name). They always spread positivity and love 💜 I could talk about them for hours but I don’t want to overwhelm you. I recommend you watch their ‘born singer’ live performance, ‘Spring day’ music video, ‘Black swan’ music video and live performance, ‘run bts’ dance practice. if you want to get to know them better I suggest you watch the ‘introduction to bts: the bangtan 7’ it’s a long one but it’s the most up to date introduction of them (it’s only been a year and it still needs to be updated with how many records they have broken). Again I apologize for the long comment I just would really suggest you watch more of their art they are more than worth getting into :))

Glad you like this song. BST is my eldest daughter's favorite song. She starts acting the moment she hears this song😅. It's ok if you pause to read. Lyric is important for BTS song and they usually deep. BTS have extensive discography. Every song and album is like made for their life stages. Of coz they also write their own songs. If you're interested, there's a videoessay; an introduction to BTS discography by boracity magazine. It have short history on them and discussion on their songs and albums including covers and collabs. It's a good info to watch but i won't recommend you to react to it as it is a long video. Just fyi to you 😁. Good luck. p/s whatever songs listed by other comments, i support that as well 👍☺.

This song (and the whole album it is from, Wings) is inspired by German Swiss existential philosophy and Jungian psychological theory as interpreted by author Hermann Hesse in his 1919 coming of age novel Demian. The song is about growing up. Essentially it is about how you have to leave the innocence of childhood behind and accept the knowledge of the darker things in life in order to become a fully realized adult person. There is some melancholy about leaving innocence behind, but it's a necessary part of growing up. There is a lot of symbolism with art and props and settings etc, that shows childhood innocence, the temptations away from innocence, the fall from innocence, and the duality of the adult world. Jin, the main character in the video who is looking at the painting The Fall of the Rebel Angels in the beginning of the video, is being seduced away from childhood. In the end, he self actualizes by embracing the duality, symbolized by kissing the statue of Abraxis, the god of both good and evil. Then, he reflects on leaving childhood behind (literally reflects by looking in a mirror) as the shell of his innocence cracks like an egg and his adult self begins to emerge. Above the mirror is the Nietzsche quote "One must still have chaos in onself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." This communicates how childhood innocence is a static state, and one requires both knowledge and struggle in order to create good art or achieve self growth, and thus must leave childhood behind. BTS is a thinking person's music. Their lyrics are most often multi-lingual, multi-layered and deep, touching on things like psychology, history, philosophy, socio-political and socio-economic issues, mental health issues, and much more. Not only that, but there is also a fictional mystery storyline (The Bangtan Universe or BU) which involves common life struggles and the bonds of friendship. It runs through their music and is revealed across multiple albums, music videos, books, webtoons, album notes, a mobile game and more. There is a new KDrama in production now that tells the story as well. BTS is a Hip Hop based group and the main songwriters and producers are the three rappers in the group, all geniuses in their own ways. They started from nothing, at a broke, indie label, and clawed their way to the top over the last 10 years against incredible odds and opposition. Their come-up story is like nothing you have ever seen before. Their synergy and level of talent is nothing short of breathtaking. They have a personal mission to bring love and healing to the world through music and their label, Big Hit's motto is "Music and Artist for Healing." Their fanbase, ARMY, is more a global social movement than just a group of fans. BTS is changing the world and giving me hope for the future. They are a once in a lifetime group. I highly recommend delving further into them. Their catalog of music, which includes hundreds of songs, 20 albums as a group and 10 solo albums among members, plus numerous singles, OSTs, collabs and other work, is incredibly varied and diverse. There is something for everyone. You will be continually surprised, amazed and impressed. Their fanbase is also similarly incredibly diverse and global. I am a 50+ year old educator in the US and am ARMY for life, and so is my nuclear engineer husband and my martial arts instructor son. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I'm 59 and have been a fan since they debuted in 2013. They are all so hardworking and talented and the company they belong to are great in working with them to come up with story lines. The production for each music video is very detailed and a lot of money is spent on it in comparison to what the US music industry churns out. As a person who loves art & dance, I'm inspired by their performances (their lives shows and concerts are amazing!) and motivated by their perseverance to pursue the best work they can do. Their debut was 10 years ago but they are still same hardworking artists, having inspired & motivated countless people to pursue their dreams. I hope you'll continue to get to know them. The song and MV are all about youth and temptations. There are religious, philosophical, and literary overtones to the song. BTS go deep! That’s why their fans (Army) dislike the labels “boy band,” “Pop group” or “K-Pop.” Labeling them a certain way is trying to cram them into a box or category. American and European media does this all the time. Watch more and you’ll see how diverse their music is.

Hot tip: their best videos are the live shows. On YT, there's a channel called Enjoy BTS More and she will have live performances translated to English subtitles whenever possible. One of their top 2 live performances are from the 2019 MMA (the Asian Grammys). They let BTS perform for about 30 minutes and it was incredible. They did perform at the Grammys in 2022 with their song 'Butter' (all English song) and got a standing ovation from the star studded audience. Rolling Stones magazine rated it the 14th best Grammy performance EVER. I don't think you can post a reaction to it online due to copyright issues, but for yourself, its a great sample of what they bring to the table.

In 2016, when this video came out, Jungkook was 18, and he's the youngest. the oldest was 23. They are now ages 26 to 30. I'm a 57 year old ARMY and so is my husband, been an ARMY since 2020. This song was inspired by the book Demian by Herman Hesse. It's a coming of age story, Good and Evil, lights and shadows, temptations etc. This is also a part of their Bangtan Universe, but that is a rabbit hole for another time. They write their own music and produce. There is a lot to know about BTS. I might suggest reacting to an introduction video, but maybe a couple more songs first and then the introduction video. I think every BTS ARMY had a similar reaction when it was released. They are very talented, which is an understatement, and they actually do a lot of good in this world. They are global artists and are masters of their craft. They debuted in 2013, in South Korea as a Hip Hop Idol group, and their sound evolved over time. They do not hold to any genre boundaries. I look forward to more reactions

Someone said the song and video are about them becoming corrupted. That’s not really true, it’s too simplistic a reading. Yes, ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ deals with temptation, but it’s ultimately about accepting that there is a dark side to human nature which has to be present for a true, full, creative life to flourish. The Nietzsche quote above the mirror at the end is “One must have Chaos within oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star”. BTS have returned to explore these psychological and philosophical ideas many times over the years, particularly in the Map of the Soul albums. Self understanding, self acceptance and self love are constant themes in their work.

Blood Sweat and Tears is the title track off their Wings album. Wings follows after their three part album series titled Hwa Yong Yeon Hwa(HYYH) or ‘the most beautiful moment in life’ which is about the pains and turbulence, but also beauty, of youth. So jumping off from HYYH, Wings explores this moment of becoming an adult and facing temptation, encapsulated by the title track BS&T. Others have already mentioned the influence the track (and the whole album) have taken from the novel Demian (a part of which was read during the narrative pause in the song), so I won’t say too much about that, but Wings is so rich with symbolism and abstract visual storytelling. I’m still discovering new layers to it to this day. One prominent symbol is that of Icarus, featured in two of the paintings in the background of the MV. If you’re familiar with the myth, you know that Icarus in his excitement flew too close to the sun, forgetting his father’s warning, and his wax wings melted from the heat. Over the years, BTS have made it clear that ARMY (their fandom) has given them wings that allowed then to thrive as artists and performers, soaring to greater and greater heights beyond what was thought possible for a group coming up through the kpop system. I imagine this song as a warning against letting this success tempt them away from their focus on their music and the fans, lest they fall prematurely by getting greedy and flying too close to the sun.

Couldn't have chosen a more difficult to understand without full context, symbol packed MV and song lol. Good luck trying to understand it ;0P p.s. You need a degree in literature, Art history, philosophy, psychology and religious symbology to break down this MV haha.

I just found you & subscribed. Obviously, BTS was/is a mystery to you! This song is quite artistic & deep meaning as do MOST of their songs/videos/raps/etc. One of the fascinating aspects of this exquisite, magnificient gifted group of young men is their ability to tell a story in such a breathtaking manner! The lyrics, lighting, sets, scenes, music, dance are STUNNING! This is just one example of their EXCELLENCE in MUSICALITY! Their discography is VAST, DIVERSE & UNMATCHED in any arena. To really get to know BTS as a group and as individual artists, you will have to dive into the RABBIT HOLE that we, ARMY have and still are enjoying. I hope you will continue reacting to this, THE #1 BAND IN THE WORLD! I am SILVER ARMY (64 yrs) and have been walking with them for 3 years! It’s been one of the highest honors and experiences in my life! These respectful, kind, caring, humble, young men give their very best in all that they do. You can tell! PERFECTION! Their team of musicians, techs, set designers, fashion coordinators, choreographers and so on are TOP KNOTCH, too. I love your great smile & gentle spirit & surprise at hearing them this first time. Thanks again. I appreciate your time, comments, and appreciation of our BELOVED BTS! Keep going! My suggestions: “Mic Drop” with Steve AOKI, “On: Kinetic Manifesto”, “Fake Love”, “Your Eyes Tell”, “Fire”, “Butterfly”, “Magic Shop” “Ugh”, “DDAENG”, “Daechwita”, “Amygdala”, “Arson”, “More”, “Set Me Free, Part 2” (there is no part 1), “Joke”, “Dope”, “Not Today”, “Tiny Desk Concert”, cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You”, “Astronaut”, “Epiphany”, “Moon”, “Singularity”, “Slow Dancing”, “Euphoria”, “Seven”… this is JUST the start. I have listed a mixture of songs/videos from the whole group, and the Rapline (3), and the Vocal line(4), as well as individual tapes. ALL but 3 of their songs are in KOREAN with English words and/or chorus interspersed. They are fluent in Japanese so have many songs in that language. I find all their music is just beautiful! There is only ONE of the members, the leader, who is fluent in English. Most of them understand English but don’t speak it as well although they are working to improve their communication skills. The 3 English songs are what I consider kpop-ish songs: “Butter”, “Dynamite” & “Permission to Dance”. They are quite catchy and really good. They came out right before and during epidemic. BTS is THE GENRE! They’re superb, shocking & PHENOMS! I say they are 7 Michael Jacksons! Each one is as talented as the next. Soon you will want to know their names. You will find this to be quite challenging because they are always changing their hair style & colors, fashion, etc. There is a great introduction video by Taylor Mari that I highly recommend. It’s entitled “A Guide To BTS members: The BANGTAN 7”. Excellent presentation of their humble beginnings and follows their amazing journey to THE TOP OF THE WORLD! You will have to watch & listen over & over to read ENGLISH SUBTITLES (sometime they’re not quite right but you’ll get the idea”)! ARMY (fandom name) is very patient and so excited when we find a NEW REACTOR that is caught off guard by them. Army will watch patiently as you take in everything, have to stop, rewind, comment, ask us questions! BTS & ARMY are a SYMBIOTIC relationship, they feed off of, get energy, love from each other. It’s FAMILY LIKE NO OTHER! JOIN, wont you💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🔥👑👑👑👑👑👑👑🤩

I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised by this. Your expression was priceless. 🙂If you are a curious person BTS is definitely the group for you. You might like the 'Black Swan' MV or 'ON' the music video (as opposed to 'ON Kinetic Manifesto'.) They are a feast for the eyes and ears. I hope you enjoy your journey into the world of BTS. 💜

You should watch the guide by Taylor Mari. You'll get a better idea of what you're in for. As far as anything else they've done, you've got 300+ songs to choose from. They have a cast discography. Buckle up.

If you choose to play, go back and find all the references of Good & Evil. They had me from the beginning with Jin starring at a painting placed between a Black door & a white door. The painting is called; The Fall of the Rebel Angels. The thing I learned from this video, all this temptation, don't be seduced by Lucifer, the Dark Angel/.

Thank you for your reaction! Here is some information/recommendations💜 Their youngest member is currently 26, and actually shares the same birthday as me! There is an explanation video about this song, as is for most of their songs. You can just search the title and "explained" and can find some. An amazing guide for more information is Taylor's "A Guide To BTS Members: Bangtan 7" Song recommendations: Black Swan Fake Love ON: Kenetic Manefesto Run BTS (Dance Practice) Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) Blood Sweat & Tears (2016 MAMA Performance) Of course, we can give more recommendations, especially live performances and solos but I don't want to overwhelm you. Thank you for your genuine reaction!! I really did love this💜

They do hsve some all English songs, but they would be considered BTSlite. Of course the allE songs are all hot. Dynamite Butter Permission to dance. More songs in the style of what you just enjoyed Black swan The truth untold. A nice way to get an idea of their various genres would be to watch a medley they performed Festa room live 2021 Tinydesk concert I enjoyed seeing your surprise and appreciation of the guys talent, the song you reacted to was a result of reading Herman Hesse. They also have songs inspired by writings of Carl Jung I think.
