He's not trying to match the drummer, he's having a constant conversation with the drummer (Ronnie Tutt) he was in complete control of everything that happened on that stage. Welcome to the fan club. Glad you liked it. ❤

And to some degree, they would kind of get caught in a feedback loop and egg each other on to go more and more intense. They were good friends.

Elvis is not following the drums. The drummer is following him. His drummers Ronnie Tutt said he had to keep his eyes on Elvis every minute because he did not know where he might go next. Elvis’s raised hand in the middle of the he song or his looking back at the band are all his ways of directing the the band. I saw him twice in concert during this time period. It was memorizing both times.

Elvis Presley was the director he never followed the drums. The drums followed him, the drummer carefully watched every move he made. That was the deal. And Elvis was an entertainer. Elvis always felt that if you wanted to hear him sing and just stand there, you can listen to his records. So when he was on stage, he not only song but he performed. That's what made him the king.

Wow, what a great reaction. Elvis loved everybody and grew up poor in a Ghetto in Mississippi, in 1935, he went to a black church and just listened to the wonderful gospel. He actually wanted to be a gospel singer especially in a quartet. He was a true believer and used gospel to sing after his two shows a night in Vegas. He hired his childhood idol gospel singer DJ Sumner and his group the Stamps when he went to Vegas. He also hired the Black group of singings called the sweet Inspirations who had sung with Aretha and other great gospel singers. He was one of the first white artist to hire black backup in one of the most racial charged era's of history. He was a financial supporter of Dr. Martin Luther King" and dedicated his song, "If I Can Dream" to Dr. King, which was the ending to the show in his comeback tv special in 1968. when I was a teenager in the 50's white stations would not play black artists till Elvis changed that. He promoted the careers of both James Brown and Jackie Wilson, in fact when he died James sat by his casket at the funeral. I appreciate your comments about Elvis, he was the real deal. Thanks and Be Blessed🥰

No. He’s directing the drums. He is always, always in control of everything on that stage. Check out American Trilogy in Aloha from Hawaii which was simultaneously aired all over the world. Just another first. Also, What Now my Live, My Way. Then of course there’s the 68 special, they called it the comeback special because he’d been making all those movies for so long and he was finally coming back to the people. There’s so many. In the Ghetto, If I Can Dream, his gospel, his country and the list goes on and on and on

I love this reaction and I love him. I used to listen to him when I was younger, and stopped for quite a while, and went back, listening to him again, remembering how great of a voice he had, and how great of a performer he was. The reason why I started listening to him again is because of reactions like this. I love how great the reactions are from so many. He definitely was one of a kind. Oh, you have only just touched on the very tip of the iceberg. You have a very long way to go down this particular rabbit hole. I cannot think of a single song that Elvis sings that isn’t top notch. And he’s very athletic ….He has a Black Belt to 8th Degree in Karate & he uses karate to train with every day in order to keep himself very fit. Sadly from 1974, Elvis’ health starts going downhill, & by August 1977 at the age of 42, he is gone ….. Gone way too soon, but never forgotten. Long term fan since the mid-1960s & still think there is no-one who can beat this wonderful human being. Great Reaction.

I've watched about thirty different reaction videos on this. NOBODY gets the part in the beginning where he sings, "So if an old friend I know (and then he tilts his head down for a half a second and shields his mouth for the camera and quietly sings "Shove It Up Your Nose") drops by to say hello/ Would I still see suspicion in your eyes". So if an old friend I know, shove it up your nose, stops by to say hello.

Elvis worked constantly with his talented band and singers so that they performed seamlessly and perfectly as one tight but flexible unit. The drummer was matching Elvis, not the other way around. The band had to always be alert to what Elvis was doing on stage because he never performed the same way twice. Elvis was an 8th degree karate black belt and was in peak shape in 1970. Unfortunately, drugs for energy and other ones for sleep, along with lifestyle and excessive pressure to perform, helped ruin his health within a few years. Elvis thought the drugs were okay because they were prescribed by a doctor (but unethically).
