Nothing like these amazing athletes, but dropped in several times in the early 80's. The sheer vertical rock walls towering on both sides of the first 50 yards are freakishly intimidating ... even for excellent skiers. Hard to understand until you're standing on the edge, making the decision. Just watching these videos brings back the adrenaline (and fear :-)). Great stuff ...

I have done this twice (when I was much younger). The first time I let myself fall into it and landed on a ledge. After a long wait all my friends left except one because they didn’t think I was ever going to leave. It was so scary with all the cliffs and the steep slope, but I finally managed to do the first turn and after a lot of jump turns made it to the bottom. The second time I thought “I own Corbet’s” and fell starting right from the top. When you fall here you start accelerating, trying not to plant a pole in front of you. Quite an experience!

Done Corbet's twice in my life. Once right out of college (after racing in HS and for CU - go Buffs) on a fractured left leg just because I didn't want to pass skiing it on that trip. Did it again for my 40th B'day. Both times involved dropping in from the side with a half turn in air land and then drop in the rest of the way. So the drop looked a bit different than what they showed here. I know 20+ yrs ago it was known as the deadliest run in NA not sure if that holds today. The first time I did that run it had 2 snow ramps on each side from rock walls coming in and if you didn't shoot the gap you would get serious air but 2nd time there I didn't see the snow ramps at the bottom so I guess they changed the bottom of Corbet's right before it opens up into the snow field.

sister and a 12 year younger one. We would drive "up north" for ski weekends, eventually corrupting other friends and families (my mother was the minister of music with six choirs at a 2,400 member Methodist church (huge for the times) and "converted" many to skiing. I was especially "addicted". As my father pulled into the ski resort parking lot, I would be opening the car door to get out while it was still slowing down, to go get my lift ticket and get ON THE HILL!!! I would ski ALL day till closing (4:30) without coming in, if I possibly could. There was a little warming house/snack bar at the top and I would jump out of my skis dive into the outdoor entrance bathroom and come out and jump back on my skiis. My mother would walk out from the lodge food service counter to the chair-lift with a cold hamburger to hand me while I was in line. I'd be the last down the hill just before the ski patrol did their end of day sweep. Then we would all go to one of the area supper clubs after we'd cleaned up. The next morning we'd lobby for one of the parents drive us back to the hill and then they had breakfast in our group rented cabins in the woods. SO MUCH FUN!!! Our families did this through Jr. high and high school into college. When I got married I taught my wife to ski and then our son and daughter. We embarked on one of OUR family activities in the same manner. My son "stole" my skis because he made it to varsity on his high-school racing team and had out grown his equipment. I supported his interest. I was then 65. My sister and brother-in-law were married forty years ago and he was born, raised and they live in Boulder. He recently retired from the Denver Symphony Orchestra after 34yrs and 25yrs as principal cellist in the Colorado Central City Opera Orchestra. My sister was the harp faculty at the University of Denver, first call union harpist and played with the Denver Symphony. They are both 70 and still ski the Rockies. You may WAKE-UP now........

As a kid I would have KILLED to do that. But my family didn’t get it and the ski hills in Nova Scotia are a joke. Moved to the West Coast (BC) and started skiing again with my own family. We go as much as possible during ski season and as you know BC has “proper” ski hills. The way I look at it is my kids get their exercise as do my wife and I. Plus we do it all together as opposed to sitting on the sidelines watching your kids. To this day I’m like a kid when the snow comes.

My issue has always been that if there's not enough coverage I won't do it, but if there's a ton of fresh snow then I'm having so much fun in the trees or on the Hobacks. It's the kind of thing I'd only try the afternoon of my last day in good conditions. I'd also only do it if I were recording, and then I'd have to make sure my wife never found the footage. Haven't been since '15 but I'll be there in two weeks. Maybe this is the time!

@@LJ-un1hb Hahahahaha. I'd be happy to just slide in and make two turns. It's nothing after that. No chance I could launch. Once I get in the air my body forgets where the ground is.

@@davebo357 drop it first run, first day you're there. Fresh legs, fully amped, you'll get it no problem and then the rest of the trip you'll be on a high cause you did it. If you wait til your last day you're gonna be tired and you'll have siked yourself out cause you've just been planning to fail the whole time by saying you'll do it right at the end in case you get hurt. At most 2nd or 3rd run. Get a good look at it, scope the drop one time, then go get a warm up run so you've got a good feel for your skis, then just send the thing. No sense in letting it get in your head for days, you'll just end up either crashing or talking yourself out of it.

Like you John, getting older with responsibilities. Would never do it tired. Have to be good conditions/ visibility, good tune and fresh legs. Anyway, love watching these talented skiers and boarders. Fantastic!

Crazy. Been skiing since 1972 and to see where the sport has progressed is amazing. With the newer equipment and better training it has allowed for mind blowing tricks being performed off this very difficult run. Like to see a competition where the skier has to use 1975 skis with modern bindings. Just a thought :-).
