Maybe she is one of the first to be recorded in western history. But there have been several before her in other countries. So how many food and drink tasters were killed during those times? Was it free people who did the job or slaves/prisoners? If it was free people, were they pay handsomely? Cos I most definitely would want to be for that job. Or maybe their primary job was to dissuade and so poisoning wasn't that common? (Knowing history, I doubt it.)

Thankfully while gruesome, the story involving beastiality in her death isn't very well attested in the literature. So I'm glad you didn't mention the specifics for that reason. But to anybody who comes across this account of her death the earliest source on that I can find is The History of Serial Killers by Michael Newton, First Edition. It gives a detailed dating and account supposedly of a contemporary source, but if the account given by that source existed it, it has been lost to history. It was removed in later editions. Still fun to talk about, and interesting how some things are perserved through history in non-official sources, sometimes when they are too unspeakable for mainstream scholastic tradition.

I understand leaving out the details of the execution. That said, hasn’t it often been thought to be, perhaps, a bit exaggerated? I’ve read accounts from later Romans who speculate on the nature of the execution, specifically mentioning how unlikely all of it sounded. Furthermore, how would the Romans have trained the giraffes?

I was under the impression that Gilles de Rais was the first recorded seried killer. As in the term we use today for "serial killer" and the psychological motives behind their actions.

Looked up how she was executed, seems like there is one version that states she was dragged though the city in chains before being executed (not further details) and other just mentioning the gruesome death, little worse than being drawn and quartered I guess.

Locusta does not seem so much a serial killer as a contract killer. Serial killers like Jeffery Dahmer or Jack the Ripper weren't paid to commit crimes but were motivated by something darker and more mysterious than avarice.

Just based on your video description, Locusta sounds more like "an Assassin" than "a serial killer".... Serial killers are motivated usually not by money (but some other sick thing), but Locusta is paid by Nero and his mom.... Now, Nero definitely is a sicko, but that doesn't necessarily transfer over to Locusta...
