KingSong s18: EWheels special Edition Molicel p42a first real ride

A lot of awesome things happened on today's ride. And a few teens who need some worldly knowledge added real fast.
tl;dr Molicel s18 will give you roughly 20-25 good riding miles before the dreaded 35% battery throttling. It is more peppy and will climb some tough areas much better.
The Molicel p42 Special Edition Kingsong S18 finally arrived and I charged it overnight and rushed off to the greenway after my day job was over. Initial feel of the EUC was amazing. It was smooth, well balanced and the motor didn't cry over small things.

More power.
more responsive feel
Less whiney wheel.
Negatives of Molicel p42a
20 less mile range.
Less range gets you into the annoying 30% zone after 25 miles.
25 good miles of riding before 30%.

I've had both versions and I don't notice much of a loss in range. If there is any loss of range it is likely because I feel safer accelerating faster at lower battery percentages on the molicel than the standard edition.

hi, thx for the video...mind if I ask, i'm around 195 lbs...do you think that is too much for the ewheel? It's max says 200lbs so i'm worried it's too close? thx

I’m pushing that weight as well and love the s18 for trails and all. Especially it is light and compact with good power. Granted 84 volts so don’t go fully demanding on it. I Also got s22 for street mostly. 80 pound wheel too draining for me on trails.

I’d like some of that in my S-18 I wonder if you can just buy the batteries and swap em into the current S-18’s…. Any idea about that?

Best bet is send EWeels support an email asking. There’s 4 battery packs. 2 large 84 volt ones and then two small 42 volts packs. You’d need all 4. EWheels said they had some in stock when i was having issues with my wheel. Usually they have things not listed on the main page. Send their support an email asking.

@@Deverydoo sounds good just wanted to check in case you knew more I’ll get a hold of that company but honestly how different is your ride? I know speed is the same but torque and breaking? How do they fair

@@thefoss721 Took the non-Moli out for a group ride because I needed range. Wiped and wrecked my nose going up a hill, wearing a full face helmet. The motor is too grindy and wines a lot. My honest opinion is Molicel is worth the 10-20 miles less range. Just the safety factor of a little more torque and a motor that doesn't sound stressed when braking.

I'm not really understanding how the range could be cut that much. Are you just counting it as whenever the beeps start? I've heard other feedback that there is no range loss at all and the range is more "useable."

I'm not sponsored by anyone so I am free to be honest. The range loss is real. It trades battery capacity for high amp output. Despite having both versions ride the Molicel daily and love it. I measure on the same greenway from 100% to 30% charge levels. The molicel gets 18-22 miles and the standard gets about 28 to 30 miles. I push them both to top speed whenever possible on these tests, so "traffic" conditions do matter. I'm perfectly happy with 14 to 20 mile range or roughly 1 hour of riding. To me the Molicel just conquers trail riding, hills, roots and jumps. Especially after I disassembled both rides and refit the axle clamps to be more secure and replaced the screws with stronger ones and loctite.

The Body armor is "AlpineStars Biontech 2.0". It works amazingly well as I've personally been launched at 15+ mph. Kneepads are basic triple 8. Gloves are some Amazon/Alibaba generic brand junk.

I am. Working with EWheels to have Kingsong remove the annoying 30% battery throttle. I get 15-20 good miles from full to 30%. Then i get annoyed.

@@bcork9381 I emailed EWheels support on this. They sent me some information about "SoftTuner" but I'm just a little nervouse to use it because it can do bad things. EWheels however did say they will work with Kingsong to adjust the special firmware for the Molicels. They agree it can handle better. New test: 20.5 miles and 25% battery left. Throttled down to 25mph after 30%. Average speed 22.6 and top 31.9. I was pushing the wheel the best I could on the greenway.
