Not that I found this story amusing (it was just sad tbh), but I know where the mindset comes from. It starts with not caring about the person/people involved and especially not about their pain. That usually happens when people decide they deserve what is happening to them (not for everyone obviously but it's a common justification to not care). It's also in part often related to seeing someone else's failures helps relieve our feelings about our own weaknesses and mistakes. If the last several "failures" our minds has taken note of are our own it's easy to feel disappointed or frustrated with yourself. But so long as we can go "well yeah I burnt my dinner again, but that's nothing important compared to this guy who ruined his entire career!" It can also be related to seeing someone or some company that has caused you stress or anger getting a consequence you don't have the power to give yourself. In my case Back4Blood really frustrated me and I'd been expecting it to be abandoned for a long time so when it finally happened I had a bit of a laugh. Of course I don't think it's funny that the modelers/animators/etc who worked on it are now having to leave it behind and had gotten a much weaker reception than Im sure they hoped for, but I felt like I'd been watching them drive it further and further into the ground for months that it felt relieving to see it finally over. BTW I know there are people who like it the way it is and that's fine, but I still feel it could've been far far greater with a proper game designer on their team.
