A note about Steve Jobs - he rejected conventional treatment in favour of alternative treatment. When he went for a second opinion several months later, the doctor told him he could have saved his life if he saw him all those months ago. Jobs was a know it all prick who shortened his own life through sheer arrogance.

Yep. He sought modern cancer treatment only after becoming sick enough to recognize his fate. It's as if he was previously certain that the universe couldn't let him die like that. Coming to understand that he was, like all of us, mortal, and that the cancer was going to kill him...only then did he act. But it was far too late.

Cancer survivor here. At the doctor's office where I received my chemo, I had a really sweet, experienced nurse who did wonders to ease my fears. She put her arm around me and reassured me that I was in good hands. That small gesture alone did me a lot of good. She repeatedly emphasized, throughout my chemo, to listen to the doctor and the cancer team, and ONLY them. She said, "I want you to be aware of this, so that you're not blindsided: you're gonna have well-meaning people coming out of the woodwork recommending all kinds of stuff. This miracle fruit, or that supplement, some supposed superfood, or some bizarre exercises... it'll run the gamut. DON'T LISTEN TO ANY OF IT. Listen to us, your team, and us only." And lo and behold, it happened exactly like she said.

@RubyBlueUwU
@RubyBlueUwU Жыл бұрын
To be fair (or factual I guess? Not trying to imply she deserves any leniency), she wasn’t getting treatment or claiming to be afaik. Part of her story was claiming to be curing her cancer through diet and whatever else and discouraging actual treatment. It’s potentially one of the most insidious things she did, because it’s bad enough when actual sufferers discourage actual medical treatment in favour of ~natural healing~, but this monster didn’t even have her own life on the line. I’m guessing the ridiculous seizure fiasco was supposed to be her “showing symptoms” lmao, but the people platforming and paying her should’ve done their due diligence long ago

It's particularly insidious, because people who are in the late stages of cancer are generally in very poor health, struggling with basic activities of daily living even outside of bad days. Then they see people who say they are even worse off carrying on with their life carefree and open, and they start thinking they must just be weak if these people can do so.

it's insane to me how she claimed to have a 40 minute seizure and then just continued to act completely fine. a 40 minute seizure is almost guaranteed to cause some type of brain damage at the least, but without medical care it would've killed her. the fact that people just took her on her word for it and didn't question how someone had a 40 minute uninterrupted seizure with no signs of lasting damage shows just how gullible people are and how willing they are to believe these influencers and celebrities

40 minutes is a hecking long time for a seizure... a really hecking long time... and youre right in saying that something that long wont leave lasting marks is super sus. Who would wanna look into a person that just lies all the time? :L That's part of why so many diseases just get ignored, especially in mental health, you need money to do research no one's gonna give you a grant to research fuckin' LIARS lmaoooo~ Same with regular scientific research, that's why we have a replication crisis. It's really cool to discover something new even if it's fake, but it's not as cool to debunk it, and journals won't publish debunks or replication experiments, etc. because why would they? I remember seeing stuff about her before her lies were exposed and being shocked that she was being given such a huge platform to tell people something as obviously unhinged as changing your diet could cure terminal cancer. You didn't have to realise she was lying about being sick to realise the message she was putting out was dangerous, and all the big companies that enabled her ought to have been held accountable. I can't remember the details, but I think that journalists actually managed to find a few people that could have been saved by modern medical treatments, but fell into her web and died prematurely as a result.

I'm aussie. Honestly while this is definitely more severe it's not even an isolated incident. Australia is full of morons that crusade for alternative treatments and dangerously encourage people to ignore actual medicine. In the last 5 or so years there was also 2 sisters with crohns disease who appeared on the news multiple times, that raised like $7k-$8k using a go fund me style donation service, emphasising the costs of their specialists and next minute 1 immediately booked and paid for a cruise holiday and the other used their half on a trip overseas to see a Psychic Surgeon though they never had to deal with any backlash for this despite the obvious deception and possible fraud. Actual loonys.

Of course when my mother was alive, she enjoyed the attention she got from telling everyone she met about my situation and getting money off of them, despite me telling her many times to stop. The internet is massively full of conflicting information and your only real checking system is to check the studies behind the ideas.

I won’t get into the story myself, because it will just piss me off and turn into a diatribe that I simply don’t need today… but every time I see this girl, or just hear her name, she reminds me of an old high school/college buddy of mine, who created the most amazing organization called Skate4Cancer, with which he skateboarded across Canada and America in honour of his mother and grandmother, and has since also done Australia and a couple other places. But just Google the name ‘Ashley Kirilow’, and read the story about what she did to him. This was before the era of ‘social media clout’ too, so her reasons for doing what she did were just asinine. This kind of thing is honestly one of the worst things a human can do in my opinion. Because it’s not just directed at hurting one person, but literally anyone and everyone who may get involved… (I wrote that before hearing Kira say it himself lol) Fuck these people.

This is untrue. Illness anxiety disorder is an anxiety disorder, not a delusional disorder. It is serious condition that can be debilitating because people who have it are obsessed with their health and get seriously worried about every small little thing that happens with their body. But it doesn't cause them to lie about having a disease, esp not an easily identifiable one, such as brain cancer. This person is clearly lying on purpose and doing it for money and attention, like many people do.
