"Kirby: Living the Dream" is a 60-minute documentary hosted by Bob Costas. Released in 1996, it chronicles the life and career of Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett with highlights, rare behind-the-scenes footage, clips from TV appearances, and interviews with Kent Hrbek, Paul Molitor, Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey, Jr. and more.

He’s a first ballot Hall of Famer, the Twins retired his number. There is a statue of him outside of Target Field, unfortunately he’s no longer with us, what more would you like to see for him to get more recognition?

Never managed to get one. I had a ball or something with it stamped on there, but not until I just Googled it did realize what a work of art his signature is. Thanks for pointing that out!

@Mikey Gray great guy Tony was, got a ball signed by him & the HOF Wheaties box he was on signed also. We laughed about going to Rubios in San Diego for fish tacos. Used to be my favorite stop, his too

I remember watching this every day as a kid, wore out the VHS. Kirby Puckett is still my hero. Thank you for all the great memories Kirby. RIP.

He's the man, 😭😭😭, I'm from Ireland, went to America as a kid, to minnesota, got into baseball, they won the world series dat year, just having a wee flash back, 😭😎, best time of my life, caught a game in the metrodome, 😭😭😭, amazing, 😢😢😢

I'm a HUGE Minnesota sports fan. HUGE. The Vikings are by far my favorite team. I love the TWolves, The Wild, LOVED the North Stars... but hands down Kirby was my favorite athlete. What a time to be a teenager watching Kirby. I feel lucky

Kirby was a role model for a generation of Minnesota athletes who were fortunate enough to watch him play. One argument that I found silly was that he was only 'just good enough, for just long enough' to make the Hall of Fame. If Kirby had played for the Yankees, he'd have been remembered in the same thought as Lou Gehrig, as an all-time great cut down in the prime of his career.

I was playing roulette at the Stardust hotel and casino in Las Vegas in November of 1991. A man came up and sat in the chair next to me and I recognized him right away. I said "Kirby Puckett". He smiled and nodded. I started betting #34 just because he was there. I did lose but I was thrilled to play roulette with Kirby that day.

He had a short stature and a compact swing, but a lot of power and was fast as hell. Also a fantastic glove-hand & throwing arm. Could regularly run down and catch impossible fly-balls. He was a highlight reel like every game he played. To this day he's probably my all-time #1 exciting player to watch

I had the pleasure of knowing Kirby personally, he was a stand up guy. I had no idea who he was when I met him, maybe that's why he took a liking to me. RIP.... Shout out to Tommy if you're reading this.

So perfect for Bob Costas to have hosted this special. Since, in 86 him and Kirby had a deal that if he hit a certain batting average Bob would name his then soon to be born baby after him.

You didn't have a safe pitch against Kirby . Go outside he would rope one to the gap . Go high and he would tomahawk one to left center . Go low and he would drive one over the fence . Go inside he would send a rope to left . Greatest hitter I ever saw for sure

I had tears in my eyes when I heard that Kirby Puckett died. My childhood favorite player. Hopefully in 2023 they can win a World Series championship again.

Benjamin Tscholl his ex-wife made some allegations as well, though she later said that she had made peace with him. Who knows what happened. I think he was a good guy at heart, but got messed up when he had to retire so suddenly from something that had been his whole life.
