Graeme and his son Kyle were good enough to give me an interview as they each returned from a day's fishing on Strangford with the tide. This has been the livelihood of Graeme all his days and it's great to see, despite the lure of 'modern' professions, Kyle has settled on the same occupation at sea.

Thank you for the memories of Kircubbin harbour. It has been nearly 70 years since I last stood on the Kircubbin harbour wall. Fond memories of an old fisherman taking us out sailing on his Yawl past the rotting hulk of an old wooden ship tied up for years in the harbour. From time to time they would dredge the harbour entrance so the coal ships from England could dock where the little prawn boat tied up. We would watch the big trucks reverse down the harbour wall to be loaded with coal. The coal ships looked big but I was small & everything looked big.

Really glad this film brought back some memories for you and thank you for sharing so much detail - it's appreciated! Was just talking about the thriving coal business in the Lough all those years ago and all the work available on coasters. It's discussed in one of our films about South Rock Lighthouse. That is a lot of great scenery and a great story Very rare for the youth today to continue in the family business. There IS a LOT of distractions out there. IF my family was working the land or the sea I would carry on the tradition.

I agree - really encouraging to see the next generation taking up this trade despite so many choices and pressure on the industry.
