Lots of expenses in a massive band like metallica they make good money but they spend a lot of it too, a band that big is a corporation and their employees are probably not paid minimum wage.

He was completely bullshitting, don't take everything so literally. It would have been to downplay the question as it's nobody's business. He could have bought the guitar without an issue at all.

It's true, he didn't have to sell anything, but he didn't pay $2 or even $1 million for the guitar, as they think, the price is of course unknown, but he said it was under $1 million, maybe $500,000, he talked about it a long time ago when he bought the guitar. Another thing, he must have made more money from Gibson and Epiphon because they did a reissue of that Greeny guitar first for $50,000 and they were all sold out, then for $20,000 and then for $3,200 and add the cheapest Epiphone version, so he must have received good money.
