Brian, clearly you have no idea of the law and how UAVs are classified

The rules on minimum distances to people are different for drones and model aircraft below 250g. If you're flying a drone or model aircraft that's below 250g, you can fly closer to people than 50m and you can fly over them.

@@summa0humma In which case I sincerely hope you are adequately insured. Imagine a scenario if something went wrong with your drone. Drone falls out of the sky, and hits car windscreen, car driver is instantly shocked, and swerves onto pavement...... One of the largest ever claims handled by the insurers who offer cover to the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) came about as the result of an accident involving a model which weighed 2 ounces. Someone lost an eye, and the claim ran to £millions.......And yes, you are right. I know virtually nothing about drones (they're of zero interest to me). I was an Examiner for the BMFA for over 25 years though, and have co-founded two model flying clubs.......so I am acutely aware of the risks involved and the need for safety. And flying over people is not, and never will be a safe thing to do......Your rules may well be different, but the risk certainly is not. One model flying club, of which I was once a member prior to moving house, bans drones outright.

Hello Brian, thank you for your reply. You seem to be a decent sort of a chap but you are certainly barking up the wrong tree here. I am also a longtime member of the BMFA ( British model Flying Association) so I have third-party insurance. My experience of flying model aircraft goes back over 60 years. Until recently, I was chairman of Lancaster and Morecambe Model Aircraft Club. I retired at the last AGM to allow some younger blood to take over. I am aware of the risks involved in flying and I do my best to minimise them, of course. I hope that you do too! You seem to suggest that flying a drone by someone like myself is a high risk activity. In my hands and with the equipment I use, I would suggest that it is not. Last year in the United Kingdom 10 people were killed by dogs and over 8000 were hospitalised so, you see, going out into a world where dogs are not properly controlled ....THAT is a high-risk activity. But we still do it. How many people were killed by drones ? zero, none, nil, zip. I wonder how many car windscreens have been hit by flying birds and the drivers have swerved onto the pavement. Not many really but should we ban birds I wonder? Or maybe car driving? Please do not put me into the category of some clown, who has just bought a drone and has got zero flying experience. What do you know about me?...NOTHING! As for a flying club, which bans drones, so what? that is up to them. I recall a previous chairman of Lancaster and Morecambe Model Aircraft Club who said famously at an AGM "helicopters? Over my dead body." he was gone by the end of the meeting. He was as bigoted as you seem to be! If you "know virtually nothing about drones" and they are of no interest to you , why bang on about them. Seems to be a bit of an obsession really. @@Brian-om2hh
