My mind was made up and set on a Tacoma TRD pro but with prices being the way they are, I decided to look elsewhere. I ended up test driving a new pro 4x. Not only was it 10k less, but I liked it more. Much more comfortable interior and just honestly felt like a better quality truck in general. I do off road, so that was a capability I was looking at. The stock suspension goes to the TRD pro, however, for 3k, I can have better and still have saved a lot. But…the pro 4x has a better crawl ratio in gearing. In the end, I’m happy the TRD pro was out of my comfort zone financially because the pro 4x, so far, has been amazing

It’s always better to buy used, you could get a 10 year old f-150 for half the price of these new truck and are more capable. It just depends on what you’re looking for.
@joesteel3459
@joesteel3459 Жыл бұрын
@@d.b.2917 used can be tricky, especially when you’re considering something that old. The average miles on a 10 year old vehicle is 120,000 miles. You’re certainly going to be looking at potential for serious engine and or transmission issues along with obvious wear and tear items. Also with your particular example, 2013 f 150s were fairly problematic, from complete transmission failures(they had a software issue that cause them to downshift into first gear randomly), prone to manifold cracking, faulty brake master cylinder seal, among other things. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration also received a large number of complaints about this particular year ranging from unintended rapid acceleration, sudden deceleration, and melted wires from shorts.

Being naturally aspirated is nice and all. However, probably my biggest complaint about the truck right now is that it is a complete tortoise. Probably the slowest mid-size pickup there is and that's saying something next to the Tacoma. It's especially bad when passing, merging and overtaking.

Nissan did an awesome job with the 2023 Frontier. I would say it boils down to one's specific needs and wants, and how much bang you want for your buck. There's a reason why Toyota has repeat customers. They simply overbuild their trucks, and Toyota's can take a beating both on the highway and off the road. It's no surprise that there are thousands of Toyota Trucks still on the road with over 300k and still run great. Good job with the video, I would love to see it redone with the new model Tacoma coming out soon. And with all similar model options.

I agree the Toyota Tacoma is mass produced I recently traded in my 2021 TRD Pro after my recent trip to Big Bend, It snowed and we got stuck a ZR2 pulled me out and I talked to the owner he showed me his truck and I was shocked to find it had front lockers ,when I got home after spring break vacation I tried to find one because they're not mass produced which In Houston shouldn't be hard , wrong only two were available when I arrived at CarMax someone was already getting wrote up for it so I went to my second option and drove it oh man it was faster, roomier, and suspension felt better. The trade in was crazy I actually got a check and have never been happier the body styling is aggressive like a raptor and beautiful front end...

A lot of Toyota's current sales are from hype. Go drive the Frontier - it sits WAY better than the Tacoma. I think people who are high on the Tacoma are just biased or haven't driven other stuff out there. They do make nice stuff, but they are not worth it for the premium.

I've been wanting a new truck for a while, but waiting patiently for all the midsize redesigns to come out, and for pricing to return to sanity. I'm not a sucker who's willing to pay over MSRP for an already overpriced vehicle. I think within the next year deep discounts will be available on the Frontier. The new Tacoma, on the other hand, will command top dollar for a while because Toyota will be sure to invent a supply shortage in order to boost demand and transaction prices. They've become quite good at playing that game since covid. As much as I like the all new Tacoma, I'm leaning toward getting a 2024 Pro4x next spring. I like its old school simplicity, driving comfort and the durability/reliability of the V6... although I am a bit concerned about carbon build up since there's no port injection to wash the valves.

I’ll raise you one. A brand new 1988 F150 4x4 Lariat, nicely optioned, 302 V8, manual 5 speed, $12,800. (Same now is $70k+ ??). Unfortunately tho, it was the worst reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Kept it 15 mos/15k miles, 3 leaks, 2 brake jobs, 3 alignments, gas tank sender died, dash dimmer switch only worked in one narrow position, emergency brake froze on in winter, hauled to town and thawed out in heated shop overnight, 1st engine sucked oil, dropped to 350/qt. 2nd engine started out at 1,100 miles/qt and if the manual was shifted up too soon, bogged engine jumped and hiccuped and ran on like 5 cylinders until 2000 rpm hit and zoom, all eight firing. Dealer couldn’t fix it, F-150 went bye bye, but I did tell Chevy salesman I had issues with it. He acted like he didn’t wish to know. Next was new 89 little Blazer with wonderful 4.3L six, nigh $16,000. Drove it 80k miles and only an ABS replaced and a door seal adjusted for windy days. That was it ! 4000 miles, zero oil consumed. Fast forward, now for secondary don’t give a rip about paint dings, washing it, nada, for last 8 years I’ve come to love my $1000 1989 Chevy S10 RWD, from NC is not rusty, everything works, AC ice cold, NOISY compressor, been that way for years, still cold, my little bomber with torquey 4.3L V6. Only thing “wrong” is steering sector is worn and a small oil drip. 270,000 freekin miles. It boggles my mind to compare that old trouble free bomber to that brand new 1988 true lemon. Wow. Boggled.

Kirk, excellent info on Fender stereo with bass turned too high, buzzing plastics. I have constantly ringing ears anyway, it’s good I don’t get carried away with cranking a powerful stereo. So, no Fender, but yes to luxury of a heated steering wheel !! I like that turned on much longer than heated seat. I drove a PRO-4X in that gorgeous electric blue metallic. That’s such a cheery uplifting color to walk up to after a whole week or two of heavy, unbroken depressing grey clouds of Nov. or March. I just can’t “dig” a dull color up north when sometimes cloudy/foggy for days on end. So, gotta have that blue and heated steering wheel, hope to keep cloth seats. Two things of note: how quiet of a ride 2024 Frontier is and I love all the manual physical buttons to poke and knobs to twist. No central computer screen that controls most things via pages of virtual button settings, AKA distracted driving. For a 4x4 the Frontier ride is good, comfortable. Some commenter somewhere pointed out the Frontier seats set a fella or gal up higher off the floor and are therefore, more comfortable. I prefer that. The box height isn’t so terribly high off the ground, either, 6’3” and can reach in easily. Not so Colorado, Ranger, no half ton, probably not Tacoma either. Loading heavy e-bike in;out of back via motorcycle ramp, higher off ground is not always better. Thanks for your Fender tip. Saves nigh $750, too.

Nissan has a reputation of being lesser in quality than Toyota. Has not been my case. One thing for sure is that their cars are less expensive than Toyotas so they are most likely purchased by people who can’t afford a Toyota and also can’t afford proper maintenance i.e. extending the time between oil changes. A properly maintained Nissan will last as much as a Toyota.

Just bought a 2023 pro4x and I can say I’m happy with it. Was comparing the taco and the frontier but ultimately the new design and the refreshed interior pulled me in. Took it to the dunes and it performed good. Used the tow mode to pull my trailer with quads and it’s super good the cameras definitely could be better but did their jobs when it came to backing up, also just pulled out another frontier that had gotten stuck in soft sand and it performed better than I expected. Don’t sleep on these little trucks they are definitely super fun

How's the ride height of the Frontier compared to the Tacoma? Over and over I keep hearing that the Frontier is a more comfortable ride. I am in the market for my first truck and I want to sit high. I am coming from a 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport hatchback aka a go-kart.
@BanquetBoysTX

@@stw2186 Well I previously had a 2021 wrangler Willy’s and it was nice but the ride was so damn rough on and off road. The frontiers ride height is good in my opinion and personally I think that on and off the road is more comfortable than the Tacoma. I would say the seat position in the frontier is a lot more comfortable than the Tacoma, to me the Tacomas seat position is like a sports car. I would say test drive them both and see which one suits you more.

Today I pulled the trigger on a new fully loaded 2023 Pro-4X in boulder gray. I couldn't be anymore happier with my decision. The deciding factor for me was the naturally aspirated V6 engine in the Frontier. Simplicity. I also think the Pro-4x it's the best looking mid size truck out there.The fender audio system rocks 🤘

I have a 2018 Tacoma Sport. It only has 35k on it and I've done a few modifications like lifting it and putting Gear rims on it with K02s, and a few other modifications. It's been by far the best vehicle I've ever owned, but again, I don't drive it much anymore since I'm retired. I've owed one Nissan, a 2003 Xterra that for the most part I liked a lot, and had it ten years. In fact, I wouldn't even have gotten rid of it, but just over 67k (I mentioned I don't drive much, LOL) I started having idling and a few starting up issues. Three trips to the dealership, and three "Well, we really don't know ...... but let's try this THIS time" while being charged each time only to have the original problems remain, it was time to get rid of it. Hell, if the techs at the dealership don't know what's wrong with it, there's a problem. I've also had a few friends with both Titans and an Altima, and one Morano, who had similar problems and that pretty much made me stay away from them. Again, I did love the SUV until the issues, but in reality, it didn't even have seventy thousand on it. Not saying the Frontier isn't a nice truck though, but at this point I'm looking for long term reliability.

Tacoma does shift at times, but only one, or at most two gears. The Frontier was very extreme, to the point of dangerous on an icy road. After the “fix”, cruising at 2200 instead of 1600 definitely impacted the mileage. All in all, it annoyed me every time I drove it. Life is too short to live with annoying crap.
