I'm a complete beginner. I wanted to learn how to color in adult coloring books. I don't like Prisma Premiers because I find them too soft. Would you recommend learning to draw first or getting comfortable with adult coloring books first? I'm interested in animals mostly and sometimes nature.

what i appriciate alot about Kristy is that even though she sells courses she makes her youtube video so educative and rich of information, others just use it as a 5 min promo for their class with barely any explanations. Right now i can't afford the courses but when i get a job i will make sure to get them and really level up my art more, thank you so much for your youtube channel

So I kept looking for more and found 18 in total turns out they were my sister's but she moved out of the house so I kept them and I'm only missing 6 since she had 24

Loved all the tips and tricks! Just gonna add a quick one as well in terms of archival (this goes with any media). Now keep in mind I don't sell my artwork, but I do this method to preserve it for my own sake. Whenever I finish a drawing, I personally do a spray coating overtop of it FOR A FEW REASONS: * preserves the vibrancy of the colors * prevents the paper from yellowing overtime * especially useful for when you're working with graphite: I find that no matter how much you brush off your finished piece, it will smudge in your sketchbook against the opposite side of the paper. Coating it will keep the graphite in place. * sometimes a specific coating (like high-gloss) can really bring out the colors in some drawings. Found this to be the case with watercolors. Now there are a few options in terms of coating, and you kind of just have to play around with it to find out what works with you and your media. Some ones I've used in the past: **Workable fixative** great all-purpose and forgiving coating for dry-media. I use this mostly for my sketchbooks. It prevents yellowing, smudging and wrinkling without adding a noticeable "finish". It's also one of the only coatings you can actual remove (with like, an eraser) * matte finish is nice sometimes for graphite, because graphite just by itself is quite reflective. It kind of helps with the viewing angles of the drawing * kamar varnish - useful for "wet" media like watercolor, acrylic, oil, etc * clear coat, semi-clear, acrylic clear, and alike are all useful for boosting the saturation and depth of your colors (think of a glossy professional photo vs matte). I REALLY don't use it often to be completely honest, but I do use it at times for specific media.

I seriously cannot thank you enough! I have learned so much from your videos!! Thank you for sharing your secrets. Sometimes I feel like these things are "ancient Chinese secrets" and professional artists all have a club with a secret handshake and the main rule is to never divulge the truth to the methods that made their work so amazing! All the practicing in the world would never get these results without some of these methods so I am really grateful you have broken free of the code of honor and are rebelling by telling us how to get the most out of our work...along with practice of course!

Parents aren’t always right, you can definitely make a living from art if you work hard and learn about how to grow an art business. These times are very different compared to when your parents were younger, when it was harder to make a living as an artist. But time’s have changed and there is so much opportunity out there to create a living from your passion nowadays. Your parents probably just don’t understand and maybe if you learn about how you could make money you could educate and persuade them. I actually made a recent video on 15 ways to make money from art 🥰

Kirsty is spot on there, as her mum I was very dubious at first when she told her dad and myself that she wanted to make a living out of art, I thought how is she going to manage that!! She did work to help fund her art channel at first until she became self sufficient and could start to make a good living from art. She certainly proved me wrong, and I have told her this. Her dad and I are incredibly proud of her and everything that she has achieved, she has worked extremely hard over the last 5 years. Never give up on your dreams and hopefully one day your mom might change her opinions, good luck 👍😊

I wish I could show you the pictures I just took of my extremely SHARP & POINTY Polychromos, Luminance, and Prismacolor pencils I sharpened with my new Derwent Super Point hand-crank pencil sharpener. Thank you so much, Kirsty, for recommending this sharpener. I have about ten other sharpeners I bought after learning about them on various artists' websites. NONE of them can make my pencils as sharp as Derwent's Super Point hand-crank sharpener. I am eager to sharpen all of my pencils with this. The stop mechanism works VERY well. There are lots of videos on KZfaq titled ‘How to draw ...’ but there is no tutorial, it’s just watching them draw, which has some benefits I guess but this video actually taught me so much and I am so grateful. I studied art and design at college for two years and then went into digital design. Now, many years later, I’m trying to get back into drawing and painting, this video has been so immensely helpful and taught me skills I never learnt at college. I don’t know why I’m actually crying.
