This product review compares two Japanese watercolor paints -- Kuretake Gansai Tambi and Kissho Gansai. I create paint swatches for this watercolor comparison. Then as a Kissho product demo, I dive into a botanical art tutorial and paint watercolor flowers. I'll teach you how to draw roses and how to paint a rose with watercolors.

I love your roses! I also admire how loosely you hold your brush. I seem to hold mine in a death grip. These paints look luscious. I will have to paint much more to justify adding to my Kurataki Set😂😂 Thanks Ginger. Hugs and blessings!

Oh my Marji! If only I'm not in pain right now, I'd do the happy dance. I'm soooooo ecstatic that you're here!!! Thank you! Thank you! Mucho, mucho, much! I'm glad you like the roses too. You know why I can't do a live video? Because in real life, while I'm painting, you'll here me say, "Yikes, what's this? What am I doing? Oh no, I don't know what to do. Yaba-daba yuperdoodles!" My kids laugh at me like I'm one crazy momma. And they say, "Mama, if your KZfaq subscribers only know how funny you are, no one will take you seriously." Yup... no one will ever think I can teach if half the time, I'm second-guessing myself too.... haha... That said, I'm glad the roses looked believable enough. :D

I hav e a question about the finish between these two brands. According to their websites, Kuretake Gansai Tambi uses animal glue and sugers as a binder, making it highly rewetable and gives the dried water colour on paper a glossy finish when applied thickly. Kissho on the other hand claims to use just fishglue as a binder, and I wonder if when dry and applied thickly on paper, it has a different shine or gloss to it. Have you noticed any differences? Aditionally, some water colours tneds to do granulation. Like Ultramarine blue. Do you see that happening with either brand? And if so, to what degree? Or do none of them granulate at all?

Thanks for your questions GaudiFanYAY. I'm no expert but I'll try to answer them based on what I've experienced. Both Kuretake and Kissho dry to a matte finish whenever I use them. At best, there's a satiny sheen but not overly shiny. Only the pearlescent and metallic colors give off a bit of gloss. I always top my watercolor paintings with a fixative then a gloss varnish to achieve that glossy sheen which I so love. I did notice a few grains showing up on the metallic colors of both brands. I assumed those were part of the formulation that allowed the gansai paints to look sparkly.

How I wish you'll do a video about papers best suited for watercolour, coloured pencil, for charcoal, and for markers for instance😉. I am a newbie artist here, wanna learn more on what's the best paper for a specific colouring materials. Thanks very much🙌😊

But for some reason, I didn't get to make the video. I guess I'll put that project in my to do list now. Thanks for letting me know. Yes, your video wish will come into this channel pretty soon.

@@GingerUmali yay! Looking forward to it and if I may add, wish you could also add videos about alternatives or less expensive papers to use for various colouring materials. (Most of the newbie artists just like me, don't have enough budget yet to purchase premiere brands of art materials🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😅😂) Thanks very much!

@@redflutterby521 Sure, I'll keep that in mind. I'll feature budget friendly supplies too. Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm always scouting for cheap materials too. A lot of the collage and mixed media canvas videos in this channel were built from household items that can be picked up from home.
