Great video. I wholeheartedly resonate with your experience connected to the Leica Q2M. I’ve never been a pro, I have always had a day vocation that provided a living wage, and now retired. Photography, is something that I do for the joy of it, and the Q2M has become my favorite tool. Here’s to wishing you the best on the next chapter of your journey as a pro photographer. 🙏🏽

Thanks so much! Sometimes there’s just something that feels right. I’m sure the Q2 Monochrom isn’t for everyone. But then there’s people like you and I who just enjoy using it so much.

Q2 monochrom is a special camera for me. I will also have to take it on trips with the q2 color one since monochrome is part of my photography these days.

Well said Paul. For me, photography is an artform, so having equipment i really enjoy the looks of and all the details, really matters. Everytime i pick up the q2m and look at it, it gives me motivation. The aesthetics and weight is just close to perfection. Passion!

Hello Paul, I totally agree with you about "the kit" which has to match your expectations and encourage your own practice of photography. Being a photo enthusiast since my twenties (with a Canon A1) and having evolved very lately into digital photography (I am now in my sixties), I do also enjoy using Leica cameras. Had once a M7 together with a M8 and then M9-P. Was obliged to abandon telemetric because of my eyesight and later switched to a Q, and now finally to a Q2M! So I am very interested in your experience and your videos and will watch them all for sure. I subscribed to your channel, and have full respect for somebody having kept a "daily job" for the security of his family and now moving on to his true passion. I sincerely wish you all the best in your new project.

My first camera was a Zenit B that I saved the money from my paper round for…. When I started studying photography at Wirral Met. one of my lecturers was Tom Wood, who at the time was using an M3, I later bought a Contax llla and loved using it. Had numerous M4’s… those cameras were not just workhorses and a tool, they had a soul of their own that made the connection between photographer, equipment and subject seem a little easier to cultivate and work with

Started with smart phone, moved to Sony A6600, and settled on Fuji XPro 3 and its Acros black and white film simulation. Kit definitely matters. Form factor, design matter.

What lens or lenses do you use on your Leica sl2? I own the Q2M and SL2-S as well, I've been using Voigtlander 28 and 50 with adapter, but intrested in others opinions. Will be traveling to London the 6th thru the 12th of October, my first time there looking forward to it, coming from Utah. Staying in Richmond if you have any suggestions for great areas for street photography would love to hear.

There’s so many options for the SL series. I’ve been using the Leica 50mm summicron. It’s one of the cheaper options and has a lovely look to it. Send me a message on Instagram if you want to book half a day or a full day photo walk with me. I’ve still got spaces.

Paul, really enjoyed your talk. You have a refreshing take on photography and enjoy your work and philosophy - couldn't agree more that you need to find the kit that excites you and makes you grab the camera, no matter what it is. Question, I know alcohol helps with the glow, but you get such a beautiful glow on people's faces with your portraits. You don't seem like someone who spends a lot of time in post so what metering do you usually use with the Q2M so you get most of it in camera? Highlight, multi-field, pinpoint? I'd love to do an in person but I'm half way around the world in California. One day. Keep up the good work!
@paulreidphotography
@paulreidphotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! I mainly use centre weighted metering however in dark situations with a lot of black I find that all the exposure methods tend to try to over expose and I use exposure compensation to bring it down a stop. I try to expose correctly most of the time rather than underexpose like a lot of Q2m users are told to do. I have online workshops over zoom if you’re interested in one of those.

@@paulreidphotography Paul, thank you. I'll try that with the exception you pointed out. And yes, I will reach out for an online session soon when I plan on getting out quite a bit right after. I pick up good suggestions but get mired in work and forget it all.....age?

It’s important not to get too wrapped up in the technical side. Just learn what’s needed to achieve the visions in your heart.

It’s is surprising to learn about people who turn over equipment as fast as they flip their iPhones. You can go broke chasing technology. People still fail to grasp Ansel Adam’s wise advice that the most important part of a camera is the 12” behind it. Most of us can’t afford the Q2, but having a fixed lens certainly forces you to master what you already own. As a wildlife photographer explained to me: “you need to make your camera an extension of your arm”.

I photograph since 1998. Now I am 46 yo and I still dreaming to be a wedding photographer. I know it sound weird but I was always stucked with my 9 to 5 and other projects. I am from Brazil and I am living in Los Angeles for the past 8 years. Wedding photography is my dream business. I just don't know if I am too old to start.

Very true. I know this sounds kinda dumb but I use a 2014 Casio point and shoot. All the stills on my youtube videos are shot with it. I once told myself I needed a "real" camera so borrowed a friends Nikon d90.....it was a truly awful user experience ....discovered that what I actually want is just a more powerful casioesque camera, not a camera that looks like a potato with more buttons than a 747 cockpit😆...the Leica is way above my paygrade, a small pentax or fuji would be just the thing 👍
@paulreidphotography
@paulreidphotography Жыл бұрын
If you’re on a budget one of the early Fuji X100 cameras are fantastic. You can put those in a point and shoot mode and just shoot. Although the kit needs to feel right it’s still all about you and if you shoot with your heart then everything else will fall into place.
