While cleaning the lazy Susan cabinet in our kitchen when we first moved into our house back in 2004, we found a small container of ground pepper long forgotten. Expired back in 1967!!

I usually save my empty spice containers to reuse for those little packets that you only use a little of, to refill bulk purchases and to use for custom spice blends. Saves on having to repurchase empty containers and is sustainable too!

Oh, for packets like gravy packets, the best container (if you can find one!) is a CD container. You can find them made of metal or sturdy plastic, and they are equidistant top and bottom, and fit well on shelves. They perfectly fit those type of packets.

I did the purge in my spice cabinet and since I have minimal cabinet space, I hung up a pegboard on the wall over my sink and have put baskets on the pegboard with all my spices. My life improved exponentially since I did that and I took photos of it so if I am out shopping, and think I need a spice for a new recipe I want to try, I can double check what I have.

I recently organized my 3 cooking cabinets ( i am a home baker on the side so i keep my ingredients for sellable stuff separate from my home use as to keep tack of cost) and it took me a solid 4 hours. I added the door mounted spice racks and it has been so much simper and efficient since I did it. Great job!

That 's a job right there. Did mine the first time about two years ago then did it again in September. I'm down to maybe ten spices now. And we are just a couple people so for us it made sense to scale back. Once I started reading the spice mix labels I realized many of them were made out of the individual spices I already have, not all but many. Nice seasoning packet bin! Feels good to be organized! TFS

That's so interesting. For me, it's the first thing I organize. I don't think my spices have ever been cluttered. I don't keep them in a cupboard, either, they go out where I can display them! I do have a relic, though. I have a tin whole nutmeg jar with the whole nutmegs in it from so long ago they didn't have to put dates on them. It's like an antique. Of course, we won't cook with that, it's just a decor item now. But I feel so nostalgic whenever I see it and it has that charm to it so I can't bear to throw it out. I use baby food jars for excess/bulk spices because I hate the plastic jars with the pop-top lids. The lid caps always break at the hinge and then the seal isn't as good so the spices go stale way faster. Keep that in mind. Just because it's not the best by or exp. date doesn't mean the herb/spice is still good.

I do a wipedown and reorganizing of my spices about once a month. It's very quick because I keep them alphabetized, but they sometimes get slightly out of order when my partner cooks. I do it often because they spill easily and make a mess. For the rest of my kitchen it's every 3 months to a year (shelves with food are closer to 3 months, dishes/utensils are closer to a year)

I recently organized my spice cabinet, and because quarantine life, I ended up making an index that I printed and stocked to the door. Now instead of looking for things like crazy I look at my door and can figure out on what shelf I need to look. It’s one of the things that brings me joy. Also, I have four bottles of thyme because I could never find anything so I think it was necessary lol

Pantry was first and the cabinets probably over the weekend. Advice to ALL, do this when you do not have a toddler playing blocks with your cans and cake mix! My kitchen looks like Heck right now, I had no idea the items I had in my pantry.

Great video as always! Spice cabinet looks amazing! I actually did this last night as I was cooking supper. In looking for Parmesan cheese, a dozen other spices tumbled down like a rock slide! Lol. Christine Here’s my two cents’ worth. What I have done is buy the Rubbermaid turntables. Some are two-tiered and the smaller, regularly-sized bottles of spices fit both shelves. (I think they were made with this in mind). I have all of my savory herbs and spices “alphabetized” on the turntables. I did what you tried - putting my baking spices/supplies in another cupboard - also on a turntable and alphabetized. I keep those large Sam’s Club and Costco bottles on the top shelf (out of the way) and just refill a smaller bottle with them when it runs out. I think this works for me (I’m short) because all I have to do is spin my way around instead of knocking the bottles down while reaching in. You might try this.

Alum is great to use on canker sores in the mouth. Wet your finger with water and then dip it in the alum. Place finger on top of canker sore and hold as long as possible (it will sting!) up to 1 minute. Rinse mouth with water to get rid of alum. This will take the pain out of the canker sore. Can repeat 3 times a day for several days until canker sore is gone.

I definitely prefer small Lazy Susan's for my spice cabinet over the risers, and managed to find a tiered tray that fits in my space cabinet perfectly. We have a small family, so I don't typically buy ginormous spice bottles, but that's def the way to go with a large family!

Your cupboard looks so neat and clean and hopeful. I did mine last Friday, only threw out a couple spices that I will never use. I have mine on 4 lazy susans, and sorted by baking spices where I mix up goodies, and cooking spices closer to stove area, where I also have my coffee and other hot drinks. I was surprised that you threw out what looked like dried onions, I don't think they ever go bad.

I worked for McCormick spices for several years. Tip on your spices, especially if you live in the south. Red spices should be refrigerated or tossed into the freezer for like 30 days. Cayenne, paprika, chili powders etc. There is a legal limit to how bug eggs can be in spices and the red spices are notorious for the eggs hatching with the right temps. They will last longer without the hatched critters. My youngest son, bless his heart, cleaned mine out when I went to my mothers when she was ill. Still, I have a corner cabinet with a lazy susan and it needs shelf liner.

I have the same amount of spice storeage as you. Three full shelves. haha One thing you might want to consider is something that I did on my second shelf. I put two plastic rubbermaid lazy susans side by side and then put my bulk containers in them. Now I just twirl the lazy susan to get what I need and I don't have to take a container out to get something from behind. Other than that my three shelves look exactly like yours. Risers on the bottom and bin on top for envelopes of spices. Good job. It's so much easier to find things now.

I have one of those pull out spice cupboards next to the stove that I thought I would love when we bought the house but 8 have the hardest time keeping it organized. Also you can only see the tops of the spice containers so I have to put stickers on the lids. I'm thinking of switching a cabinet to spices with the risers. It seems more efficient.

I have found that a lot of those seasonings like Taco and Fajita seasonings are not necessary because I usually have all of the ingredients that go in to them in my spice cabinet. That is one way to make space. Enjoy your channel.

I just redid my spices because my cooking spices were in a drawer. Which was not working for me. I was thinking of getting one of those step racks, so now I see how it would look. Now to find out if my Walmart has it. I usually keep my baking spices and flavorings in one spot and my cooking spices in another.

Looks great! I did a pantry spice cupboard make over last year and got all matching jars with labels and it looks so much cleaner! Also I like to keep my sesame and poppyseeds in the freezer so that they don’t go rancid!😉

I recently changed my spices to a drawer, for me it's much better since I am short. I put bulk spices in the original spice cabinet and its working out better. But for you taller gals, I think the cabinet is great. The 27 year old spice has traveled with you to many homes. 😂 it happens to all of us

I hope the spice risers work for you. I always ended up knocking things down trying to get stuff in the back. I use the Spicy Shelf now.

I so need to do this. I only used about 10 spices but have 30 different ones. My mom has a lazy Susan with all her spices. I need to try that too.

Hahahahahaha! I feel as though since you tackled your spice cabinet I need too! LOL! I was putting this off! We were in the Military so every time we moved, it was pretty much cleared out, because of the when ya move overseas, I had to start over again! My Hubby retired 4 yrs ago! So for 4 long years I have let my spices go & grow! You have convicted me! Hahaha! Drink some coffee & say prayers! :)

Everything on this short video hit home with me. I just did a spice clean out and had one of those used-only-once spices that was 20 years old. 😜I love serving bowls, platters, etc. and I feel like there is always room for another one (even when there isn’t.) I inherited it from my mom - I could count on receiving a new platter or bowl for any gift giving situation. 😆 I too buy things at my Walmart to try just for fun. This week it is flavored coconut drinks in small bottles and fruit cups with juice filled bubbles. 🥰
