In today's tutorial we are recreating the scene from Mary Poppins and flying a kite!
First we will make the kite pieces and then use Cloth Connectors and Rope to attached it all together.
Then for the moment of truth...will it fly?? 🪁🌠🍂😥

I made the kite and it worked but when i tried to copy paste it into my scene it just doesn't fly anymore and slowly falls down. Any idea why this might be?

Very interesting, cool and fun tutorial. 🙂 Maybe I missed something, but why did you use connectors for the string and the cloth instead of rope and cloth belts? Also, why is the "wooden cross" treated as rope instead of, for example, as cloth (soft-body) or a rigid body? It seems a bit too bendy (although my experience with real-life kites is virtually nil so I don't really know how flexible the wooden rods really are). I've been experimenting with the new cloth engine in C4D on and off since it came out, but I usually use the cloth sim for character clothing and not so much for flags, curtains, etc. (which worked reasonable well even before the overhaul of the cloth engine which cannot be said for the use of the old engine with character clothing).

Some good points. I used the rope for the wooden cross with only 1 or 2 subdivisions to keep it rigid, but you could use a cylinder also with few segments and a Cloth tag, it’s just a preference really. For the Connectors, again it’s a personal preference and I like the visual “yellow threads” which show how securely bound one object is attached to another. I will give the Belts a go to experiment with the differences. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial, it means a lot! 👍🏻

@@VizualAnimation As I explained before, I usually use cloth sims for character clothing and for that purpose I use belts and not connectors (to prevent my characters from experiencing a wardrobe malfunction...). I was just wondering if the connectors provided a "better" or more "secure" attachment.

@@C4DRS4U yes they do as you can add as many connections as possible and increase the search radius to effectively “bind” or “stitch” the items together. This works with the segments in the object, so the more segments the more secure connections.

@@VizualAnimation Interesting. So far, I haven't used connectors for anything not "mechanical", such as cloth or rope.
