Now that was great. loved watching the skilled man at work, fixing bad rivets. And I loke the idea of getting an RV "Toolbox practice kit" and setting rivets then drilling all of them out, and setting them again. Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking !

Paul - I'd like to see some guidance on less-than-perfect rivets and when a rivet needs to be replaced. I recently read something (might have been in AC-43 or maybe Van's instructions) that suggested that even though a rivet may not be "textbook perfect" it will still probably provide 80-90% of its design strength. And since the process of drilling-out can be less that perfect (egged holes, close to edges, etc.), it is sometimes better to leave a "messed-up" rivet alone. Perhaps you could demonstrate with examples of some varying degree of messed-up rivets and show us which ones you'd re-do and which ones would be "good enough". Thanks.

my guitar case hinges have rivets and I have broken drill bits and whatever you call that punch, they break in half... you can't drill a round surface everything. just slips right off, been working this for weeks now...
