KitzSki Ski Resort - Is it worth it?
Join us for a video tour of KitzSki Ski Resort. In this video, we show all of the lifts, the terrain they serve, and the scenery!
Part 1 of the KitzSki Video Tour includes the 18 primary lifts, the terrain they serve and the scenery in the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg area. We flew into Austria's Salzburg airport and took a taxi van to Kirchberg, where we stayed at the Hotel Bechlwirt. If you plan to visit and take a taxi, be sure to learn to pronounce the two towns in local dialect so as to avoid confusion with the taxi driver. Kitzbühel (Pronounced Kitz BOoooL in English) and Kirchberg (Prounounded Keerburg in English).
KitzSki refers to the ski area as probably the "most legendary ski area in the world."
The entire KitzSki area is massive spanning seven districts and two federal states (Tirol + Salzburg). This includes the towns of: Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach, Jochberg, Pass Thurn-Mittersill, Hollersbach along with Kirchberg and Aschau in Spertental.
The entire ski area is well-served with public transportation (included free with hotel stay and ski pass)
We visited Austria's KitzSki area January 29th - February 29th, 2024, during an unusually warm period (highs reaching 50 degrees F; 10 degrees C), and the snowpack was the lightest in years. KitzSki does do an amazing job though maintaining skiing all the way to the valley floors with snowmaking.

In Part 2 of the KitzSki video, I found a ski run that is one of the most scenic I’ve ever skied! The locals I’ve talked with said they had good snowpack early in January, but a combination of unseasonably warm temperatures and rain have significantly reduced it. KitzSki is relatively low - base 800 meters with the top at 2000 meters. I’ve been reading that the most snow sure resorts in Europe are above 2000 meters. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hope you have a great time! Part 2 will post next Friday. I felt like the scenery was even better in the part 2 area of Jochberg and Pass Thurn, and the pistes were softer.

@@garywpattersonjrOff-Piste was icy as well. In the afternoons the top few inches softened some, but was very firm underneath. I do think they are getting some high elevation snow now out of the storms moving through.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Is it icy for this lower elevation resort? Also how would you compare the difficulty between the normal red trail in Kitzbuhel and normal blue trail in Colorado? Thanks again.

Thank you for watching and commenting. The runs were firm-icy in the mornings and softer later. They were having abnormally warm weather when I was there (mid-50s F) for the highs and lows just below freezing. Locals said that was the least snow they have had in 40 years. On the piste ratings - Yes, reds are very similar to blues in the USA. Just like our blue runs, some are mellower and some a little steeper. There blue runs are our green runs. Blacks are pretty similar for steepness, but many I skied were more like blue-black. Let me know if you have any other questions about Kitzbuhel, or any of the resorts I’ve skied. I’m in Utah now skiing Snowbasin and Alta.

@@klsavr79 Thank you! Zermatt in Switzerland and Dolomiti SuperSki in Italy are my two favorite resorts for scenery. Banff Sunshine Village and Lake Louise would be my next favorites for scenery (Canada)

Among 12 resorts in Dolomiti (ikon pass), Any recommendations for relaxed long trails for cruising/carving? (Or in Zermatt, Kitz)

@@klsavr79 Zermatt I think is the best for long cruising runs! I skied the Arabba-Marmolada complete resort, and the Sella Ronda, and Hidden Valley. All beautiful and fun. I’ll have to go back and see more of the Dolomiti SuperSki resorts next year. Part 2 of KitzSki was my favorite skiing and scenery in that area. The runs are longer than many in the US, but not long compared to Zermatt’s!

How much for the plane ride from Canada?

We paid around $800 one-way. Could have got a better deal each way if we could have booked round-trip, but after Austria, we are skiing the Dolomites in Italy for a month.
