Yakutsk is well known as the coldest city in the world. It lies in the far-eastern part of Russia, about 450 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle. We made a tour around Yakutsk and show you how we live in such an extreme climate.

My dad used to work in Yakutsk. The stories he has from this absolutely amazing Winter Wonderland always blow my mind. He worked in Yakutsk for over 30 years in chemical engineering. He said drilling was basically impossible without very strong equipment. He brought us back a lot of beautiful furs, coats and hats. And in turn, he would bring with him a bunch of make up and perfume and women’s clothing and fashion stuff. He said the locals absolutely went nuts when he would hand that stuff out. He also said they have the best meat in the world because it has no parasites. This channel is so fascinating, thank you.

the worse thing she hasnt mentioned is how unpleasant it is to breathe if you dont have a a face cover the air is so cold you can feel ice crystals forming in your nostril and flash freezing in the back of your throat for a few seconds before it thaw, a face cover somewhat negates that since it retains part of the heat from the air your exhale thus heating up the next breath you take I've never been to yakutsk but I've lived in very similar condition in northern Canada (Baffin island)

That’s an interesting tidbit about the metal glasses. I stopped wearing metal frames when I moved back to Arizona for the opposite reason. If you spend time outside the metal can heat up. I’ve found small burns on my face from metal frames after spending too long outside. Super fascinating.
@samuelweir5985
@samuelweir5985 Жыл бұрын
Fast fact: It's not that the metal heats up more than other objects in a hot place. It's that metal has a very high thermal conductivity so that if the metal touches your skin on a hot Arizona day then it will rapidly transfer its heat to your skin. A piece of cloth at the same temperature as the metal would not burn your skin because cloth doesn't rapidly transfer heat. For Yakutsk on a cold day the situation is reversed: Metal contact is then dangerous because it can rapidly transfer heat away from your skin.

My whole life I’ve been so fascinated by these places all over Russia, and Yakutsk has been on my bucket list for ages. I lived in Finland for 5 years and I was so close to Russia yet I never had the chance to visit, I’ll forever regret it :( I just hope one day I’ll be able to visit! Love your videos! @@yuanruichen2564 Right, from certain point of view. The origin of the Hungarians goes back to the territory of today's Russia. But the conquering Hungarians who arrived (from the the present day territory of Ukrain, Moldova, Romania) in the Carpathian Basin in the 9th century were already very mixed population (Hungarians, Turks, Slavs, etc.). Since then, the mixing has been continuous. For example, I am Hungarian, my name is of Slavic origin (Croatian), but most of my ancestors were Germans and Hungarians, and who knows what other. But if we go back to the first part, or the middle of the holocene (around 6-8 ka) I would see that probably most of my ancestors were Central-European hunter-gatherers (descendants of the late pleistocen European population), and early immigrant farmers from the Middle-East.

As someone who has lived in Alberta, Canada (and adapted to the climate, for the most part) for 13 years, I think I’d do fairly well in the Yakutsk climate; it’s just colder there for a longer period of time, whereas, here, we only hit cold snaps of between -30 and -40 occasionally during our 4-5 month long winter. But the short winter days, same deal here. I’d love to visit Yakutsk one day; looks like something that must be seen to be believed…

I've been watching your channel and Maria's channel @Life in Yakutia. I was recommended by KZfaq for no reason, but then I kinda got interested and eager to visit Yakutsk in the near future. I am fascinated with your culture, the people and the environment, how to cope up with the cold weather. Here, where I am the coldest temperature we have recorded is 17*C.. that is still not even cold since I am from a tropical country where the weather is warm and sunny all year long.
