@@apinkandwhitehouse I overstated. Kiwi eggs are more like 15% of their weight, possibly getting up to 20%. And sometimes the mothers will soak themselves in water to relieve the pain they get in. Thankfully the baby can survive two and a half weeks on the yolk alone and after is ready to hunt for earthworms.

Fun fact: the albino kiwi at 1:01 and 1:03 is Manukara, the only albino kiwi that has been kept in captivity! She used to be in a zoo but she passed away in 2020.( rip ❤) Ik this isn’t super interesting but I thought bc I know that I might as well make a comment about it. 🥝

it isn't actually albino but a gene that makes it white instead of brown, albinos have red eyes while this one does not and her parents both had the recessive genes to produce a white kiwi
