No wonder noble women needed like 10 servants to get them dressed every morning.

In the past, Korean women did hardly cut their hair. So it was possible to make these hair styles. If the hair wasn't enough, Korean women used Gache, Korean traditional wig. ^0^ Thanks for watching~ XD
@romella_karmey6 жыл бұрын
Why do in ancient Korea, women would have to wear wig specially the big ones? I don't think it looks comfortable for them.
@lforce12983 жыл бұрын
Really a work of art. 👏
@MeowCockadoodledoo Жыл бұрын
@@romella_karmey well, beauty definition is different in different era. And since it was considered disrespectful for them to cut their hair, I guess they would have to be creative on how to handle such a long hair. So they did all sorts of designs and ways to set it. Of course it doesnt look comfy for us (and probably for them too), but again, they would wanna make a statement of the hair fashion of their time but at the same time, dont want to be disrespectful to their culture.

I am not Korean, but I absolutely LOVE the Korean culture. From Gogureyo until Current Korea (North and South). I read so much about them. It is so rich and everything about its culture has deep thought connected to it. From their writing to the food, and everything in between. The people are so strong even the Chinese couldn't completely control them. I could go on and on. But I always wondered how the women got the hair pieces for their hairstyles. Did the poor sell their hair? Was it horse hair (I doubt it). I can't find any writing about this. Anyway, Korean women, I think, are the most beautiful women in the world and I am obsessed with their past fashions, hair, and makeup. Great video!
@kjkj9276 жыл бұрын
Pdx Paula Love your comment! 😍 I agree with all you said. And about the hair, yes poor women often sold their hair. Gache (traditional wig) was made with real hair, so it was extremely expensive... like one big gache was as expensive as a few houses.
@lforce12983 жыл бұрын
@@kjkj927 wow that is ridiculously expensive. Thank you for the information

Yes, you're right. And because the models have only short hair, they had to wear Gache I think. In the Joseon Dynasty, however, Korean women did hardly cut their hair in their lifetime. ^0^ So they could have a long and elegant hairstyle.
@kjkj92715 жыл бұрын
Well... I think both the two cases were possible. Korean women of the past did hardly cut their hair. If the hair wasn't enough, they used Gache. ^0^ Thanks for watching~ XD

Would someone like to explain me why long hair was this important in the past of the Korean history? I didn’t find any writing about it. Yes it’s beautiful but does it symbolise something special?
@k24y4 жыл бұрын
Because in Korea, my body was a gift from my parents. So It was most important to keep it precious. So, they didnt even cut their hair. It was also related to Confucianism :) FYI, in the past, if their parents is dead, they had to stay and live around the tomb for 3 years. It was their convention and duty.

I always adore the hairstyle they do at the Jewel in the Palace. And I thought ancient Korean women would actually grow longer hair like Rapunzel so that they could make that hairstyle without using wigs. Because haircuts are a scarcity for women back then.
