Thanks for the question. The diagram shows the correction needed for a drift in that direction. Bottom line - dial in some trim and try to fly, if it makes the drift worse then reverse the polarity. Happy flying!

Hi Steven. You need to solder the voltage from the battery (or power distribution board) to a dedicated pin on the KK2.0. You can see the connector on mine - it's just above and to the right of the display and is a small red connector onto a pin soldered into that spot, makes it easier to unplug. Happy flying!

Propfella, thanks for the feedback. It's always nice ot hear that the video helped another RC addict. I've checked the tool I used to flash the board (KKMulticopter Flask Tool V0.72) and the version I used was the original 'KK2.0 V1.6 by KapteinKuk'. There wasn't the choice there is now on the tool when I flashed the board. Hope this help. Happy flying.

Hi Roger, if the correction you add makes the drift problem worse then put in the opposite number. Hopefully the amount of correction is easier to estimate after watching this. Good luck trimming your model. Let me know when you post a video of it in action.. Happy flying!

Hi Wayne, I can't take any credit for this it's amazing people like KapteinKuk and SimonK (among others) that are making this hobby a lot easier and even more fun! There are improvements in tweaked versions of the code i.e. v1.6++ but 1.6 and its various flavours are very good. Happy flying!

Bruce, best to do it once it's on the craft. Any small changes in the mount may knock off the level. It's a quick and easy process so only takes 20 seconds once you've installed it - worth doing. Happy flying.

Hi painless, I followed your instructions on the self levelling, but in my case, as I'm building in a qrx350 shell, I had to level the model not the board. i got the KK2 as level as possible in the frame, then levelled the frame as best I could. This made a massive improvement and as I know your quad is all nice and flat, I'd just like to add the point that level should be at hover, because with my difficult (stupid idea) first build that's where it's needed!
@Painless360
@Painless360 11 жыл бұрын
The calibration seems to hold well, not perfect but I expect that is due to the board warming up etc. I've not had to play with it too much once it's dialled in. The model came with Turnigy D2822/12 1800Kv motors and it was a beast! I've replaced them after a crash with Tungy 2822/14 1450KV and it's still powerful but gives me longer flights. I use a 7x4.5 prop and it hovers about 51% throttle now.

NOt that I recall. I will check again tonight. The funny thing is that this is my 4th multirotor using a KK2.I have never had a problem before. I just powered it up, made the settings adjustments, and flew. I have noted that KK2 boards fly fairly well with factory seetings. I don't understand why it starts "armed"

Go into the menu, select 'Mode settings' then select the self level to 'AUX' or 'stick'. I'd suggest using AUX. Go back in the menu, go to 'Receiver test' and make sure that the Aux channel is showing as 'Off'. If it isn't then reverse that channel on the TX while watching the screen to make sure it changes. When it's 'off' self level isn't active. Let me know if this sorts you out. Hope this helps. Happy flying!

Hi there, I've looked at the video - a couple of things.. The rotors are all spinning in the same direction, two of them should be spinning the other way and have counterclockwise props on them. I would need to know the weight of the model and type of motors to see if they have enough power to lift it. See my other video on how to choose a motor for your multirotor. Remove all the excess weight on the model to give it the best chance to lift off.. Hope this helps. Good luck..

one thing you forget to mention i think is important and also not only for the kk board. for the kk board before you trim the autolevel you should also trim the rc input to zero. using high "stick scaling" (rate) makes it even worse if its not exactly zero. small numbers can make huge difference. not that much in stable mode but in acro mode if you want to do flips and because of that raise the rates.

Hey !! i fixed my auto level problem (she would nosedive in auto level only) i made sure my reciever settings were at 0 ,the tricopter flew good in normal made sure my trim pitch was at 0 ,propped the nose of it about 4-5 in above the rear ,recalibrated the sensors ,l placed it on the floor indoors so no wind effects were present,spooled it up to a hover ,and wow ! it worked drifting only slightly forward,.this was corrected by adding some positive trim pitch in the auto level settings, now ok.

I built a H quad from a crashed guia 500x. Mounted a KK 2.0 and getting it sorted. Adjusting the height hold and it did a front flip for no reason. Restarted it, holding a hover, moveing it around and it did it again. Only had it a foot of the ground so no damage but now im not too sure about this board.

No details on thrust or prop selection for 3s or 4s batteries I can find for this motor. Not sure what you are using it I'd guess an 11x4.7 or 12x4 prop would give you plenty of thrust. Hard to say without knowing the thrust and weight of the model. Email hobbyking and ask them for the prop suggestions for your battery cell count. Hope this help. Happy flying

Got the KK2.1.5 in my tri but having yaw drift issues. Been great until I broke my DS939HV servo. Replaced it with a new HK15148B I had but now my tri won't hold it's heading too well. It kinda drifts side to side randomly and doesn't always return to the right heading. Tried adjusting the P/I, Mixer Editor and servo filter but nothing seems to help or do anything for this particular problem. When on the ground or test bench the servo buzzes as if it's trying to center but can't quite get there. I can't detect jitter on flight or power up but it might be happening a little. If I touch it slightly one way the buzzing will stop until it moves again just a hair to one side then buzzes again. The buzzing doesn't happen unless armed. The DS939 didn't quite make the buzzing noises, but both servos feel like they have the same amount of center play... Is this just a really crappy servo? Help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, your video confused me. In your verbal discussion of the trim chart, your said that if the copter is drifting back towards you, add positive pitch trim. When you flew the copter, it drifted forward, away from you, and you added positive trim. It's also a little unclear whether the arrows on the chart indicate the direction the copter wants to drift, or the direction you want to trim towards. It would have been more clear to give simple directions, like this. If the copter wants to drift forward, add positive pitch trim. If the copter wants to drift backwards, add negative pitch trim. If the copter wants to drift left, and positive roll trim. If the copter wants to drift right, and negative roll trim. After watching your video, I knew that I could figure out positive vs negative by starting with big corrections and checking for better or worse performance. I still found myself guessing whether to start with positive or negative,
@Schiksie
@Schiksie 10 жыл бұрын
Yes its said the wrong way around when the pictures are showing but with the actual trimming its done correctly. So when its flying forward add + pitch, when its flying backwards - pitch

Painless360 I think the text in the video description is wrong. I believe this is the correct text: - If the model drifts forward the correct using positive pitch trim - If the model drifts backwards the correct using negative pitch trim - If the model drifts left the correct using positive roll trim - If the model drifts right the correct using negative roll trim

Great tips.. quick question, if the copter wants to yaw, what do you adjust on the auto level settings ( or is that done up on the other section of settings)? I know that you can just trip the yaw on the transmitter, but that's really a bandaid! Thanx much !!!
@Painless360
@Painless360 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Rene, the Yaw setting isn't touched by auto-level. Use the trims on the transmitter to compensate (and make sure that you haven't caught the trim by accident! - I've done that too!). Always allow the model to reach the ambient temperature before flying as gyros tend to 'wander' as they change temperature. I'd also look at resetting the accelerometers again and if that doesn't fix it check that all the motors are level - I had an issue on one of the larger plastic framed quads where two of the arms were warped slightly. Hope this helps. Happy flying!

Your quadcopter seems to be in good conditions. Why you need to trim the self-level? Is it normal to correct it?
@Painless360
@Painless360 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, in theory - once you have taught the board what level 'feels' like it should do most of the work itself - but in practice the cheaper boards (KK2.X and Multiwii) may require a small amount of trimming for the self level to be spot on. This is best done using the devices in the menus/software for the board as the trims on the transmitter would also affect non 'self-level' flight. Thanks for the question. Happy flying!

I have Turnigy D2836/8 1100KV with Afro 30a and using GemFan 8x4.5 and 30c 4s 5000 lipo. I'm also using kk Hobbyking KK2.1HC. Frame is Hobbyking X650F. Now problem is heat on the motor and including heat on esc. And motor 1 and 3 there is a wag. So engine 1 and 3 goes up and down. What's the problem? Also it's hard to keep it hover it's hard to keep it one spot. My frame before was X550 but had hobby wing 4 in one 25a with same prop, same hubs, battery was 4s 4000mah work great. On this flight board i flew stock 1.6 firmware but now it's setup for kk2.1 v1.9s1 firmware. Any ideas?
@Painless360
@Painless360 10 жыл бұрын
A lot changed from the two setups so it's tricky to know what's giving you the problem. Looking at the spec of the motor a 7x3 prop is recommended for a 4s setup. Using a much larger prop could be causing the overheating - see The impact of changing rotor or blade size on Multirotors The wag could be vibration in the frame. I'd suggest mounting the control board on some rubber pads to see if that improves things. Hope this helps. Happy flying!

need help can't seem to find much on you tube or online. i have a armattan quad setup very much the same as in video. i quite sure that i have set things up on the kk board as i should of but i am having problems. When I try to take off I move the throttle up to just above 50% once it gets to 52% the copter just shoots up into the sky. When I try to lower the throttle it just drops out of the sky there is no progression in the throttle. Can't get the copter to hover. i am also using a ezuhf rx receiver which is setup using ppm linkup. i have other flight controllers with the receiver set up with no problems so i feel that the problem is with the kk settings are there any settings i can change to solve the problem thank's. hoping around on the ground at the moment lol

The first thing to check is that you have a linear throttle. Check the throttle curve on the radio is a straight diagonal line from 0% to 100% and then recalibration the ESCs on the model using the KK2.0 menu. Should help.. Good luck

If it flies ok in non auto-level mode then I'd suggest reset the acc and rebalance all the props in case of vibration. You could also look at the stick scaling and turn it down a little. I had a similar issue and it turned out it was a problem with the firmware on the ESCs. Hope this helps. happy flying!

i have an SK450 with kk2.0. It flies great, other than one issue. When i am trying to climb fast, lets say maybe 70% throttle or higher, the front right motor powers up more than the others all of a sudden (or the back left motor isn't powered enough) So it banks on that axis, which is frightening. Any suggestions?

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the question. The first thing to check is the calibration of the ESCs. Let me know if that works. Happy flying!

@Painless360
@Painless360 9 жыл бұрын
You calibrate the ESCs using the throttle channel and your radio - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbWgn85ml7iYnqM.html Ideally using an ESC with custom firmware for multirotors (SimonK firmware or similar) is recommended. If not then turn off low voltage and breaking (oddcopter.com/2012/12/27/easy-diy-quadcopter-build-part-3-setup/)

Hi. Let me first say a big thank you for all your affords posting all your helpful videos. Helped me out a couple of times. But now i want to tune my quad with a kk 2.1.5 board. Self leveling is ok but it slightly turns right but over the yaw (rudder) axis. I don't find anything regarding this issue. I changed the props but it doesn't help. Maybe you got an idea??
@Painless360
@Painless360 9 жыл бұрын
You can trim this out using the trim on the transmitter. Check that you have everything as balanced as you can and that the you let the model warm up/cool down to match the temperature of where you are flying before you take off. Hope this helps!

hey dude, great video! just a little question: on my quad every time i land i have a problem with the accelerometers (i suppose)...for example: if i arm and take off from a sloping surface the kk "thinks" that the surface is horizontal, so it flies away... every time i disarm and then arm the accelerometers seems to reset...why? sorry for my bad english, be patience =)
@Painless360
@Painless360 10 жыл бұрын
That is the way it works. It's key that you calibrate the accelerometers when you setup the board first time. Some flight control boards will not initialise at all unless they are level. My advise would be always take off from a level surface.

I don't understand what you mean. If you mean it flipped on take off then two of your motors are switched over.. Recheck everything on the model. If this is one of your first, then triple check every cable. connection and setting..
@rubenvaneupen7327

It's the motors that should be level, no? Not the kk board. In theory u can place the kk 45 degrees to the motors, and calibrate it like that, right? Just asking because I have vibration isolation under the kk, that doesn't keep the board in a very fixed position over the long run. Maybe I should change that.
@Painless360
@Painless360 9 жыл бұрын
+babipsylon - Everything should be level. The board will allow for you to mount it out of perfect alignment but be very careful when you do. Best of luck.

+Painless360 So you think the board would perform worse when you attach the controller in a(n) (non-level) different angle relative to the motors/arms/props plane? Why would that be the case? Because the gyroscope has some kind of absolute level position programmed into it, around which it performs better? Isn't it a full 360 degrees thing in all axes? Doesn't the controller only need to know when all motors are perfectly level (=> quad stays in position)? Of course, the fact my controller slightly moves angle over something like months, possibly, is bad thing for sure.
