Their skating is so smooth and fluid that it makes the difficult look really easy. They were the class of the field in terms of the technical aspect of ice dance from 1985 to 1992. No one came close to them during that time.

Мариночка такая нежная. Как я их обожала в детстве. Всегда ждала их выступления. Реально танцуют на льду. А сейчас больше акробатики, а не грации и плавности.

Thank you for posting. I'm a Brit so TD my ultimate fave ice dancers of all time! (lol) BUT I ALWAYS loved this couple. Their lines, soft knees, matching free legs, edge-work, finessing of every move, such a joy. Technically very evenly matched. @EightballRus I am SO envious!! They're the only ice dance couple to win Bronze (Sarajevo '84) Silver (Calgary '88) & Gold (Albertville '92) in successive Olympics. I mean... WOW!

This performance made me an instant fan. I remained their fan as long as they were skating. They were the best ice dance team ever, IMO.

I'm a huge fan and this is my favorite performance by Klimova and Ponomarenko. I loved the music so much my husband called Klimova a few years ago and asked him who's arrangement they used. Klimova was gracious and shared several phone calls regarding the music and performance. Klimova and Ponomarkenko are still married with children and have their own skating school in San Jose, CA.

Oh may I please ask which arrangement they used for the "I want to hold your hand" portion? I've been dying to find it for so long. Thank you ahead of time !

What a beautiful performance from my favourite Russian ice dance couple. Lovely classical instrumental arrangement of a musical medley based on The Beatles songs too. Good to listen to and good to watch.

Wow. Just wow. This program is so beautiful. I was smiling the whole time, and it made me so happy to the point that there were tears in my eyes. Wow. It was really lovely. And the fact that it was to the Beatles made it all the more better. I can't really express how great this is! Thank you for sharing :)

Beautiful! They are my favorite ice-dance pair. Very pure as the commentator says. No weird moves done for the sake of inserting a move to impress the judges. Every move falls seamlessly into place and fit to the music.

5.7 for technical merit? This was the best skated free dance of the competition. Complicated holds, ever changing positions, close skating, clean edging, fully synched free legs. They should have won the free dance and thus the gold in 88. But I guess they were too good for the judges. So good, it just made them envious or something. There is no other explanation.
@gk8914 жыл бұрын
Ice dance placements rarely moved after the compulsories. To be fair, B&B had some awesome compulsories but I thought their FDs were very lacking (maybe things would've been different if they had worked with a different choreographer). While I thought B&B were fairly placed first in the compulsories, I personally thought they should've been no higher than third in the free dance behind both K&P and W&M.

@@gk891 One thing I liked about the 91 worlds, 94 Europeans, and 94 worlds was the Top 3 flipping positions in each round and even the close ordinal flips. While I didn't always agree with the results it was great to see the judges not just carrying through everyone in the same position from the first dance on. All too often that was the case. One thing Tracy Wilson is right on was "just because you are good at the original dance does not mean you are at the same level in the free dance, and vice versa". The 93 Canadian dance event was great in that regard too with Petr & Janoshak, Mann & Noria, Bourne & Kraatz flipping spots all competition, even if I disagreed with Bourne & Kraatz's win. And of course this sort of thing should be happening many places throughout the whole field, not just at the very top.

Torvill and Dean had one of the most memorable program in Skating History. However.. I wouldn't view them the best ice-dancers ever to exsist in skating. I think in and out of ice-dancing we've watched some great skating that's provided great passion, entertainment, and techinical ability on the ice.

Everything was wonderful with one exception, they skated to music. But in Albertville in 1992 they rolled the music itself. This gave them the opportunity to win Duchesne, though the program they put Dean himself. Thank God they had the sense to go to Tarasova, otherwise they would not see Olympic gold as their ears.
@SDoesNotKnow10 жыл бұрын
Although I do think it was a good idea for them to go to Tarasova in order to get fresh eyes and to have Shanti Rushpaul do their choreography for 1992, thank goodness they developed under Natalia Dubova. Dubova is responsible for their impeccable technique, unison, and lines. No other team comes close to them (except Torvill and Dean but I'd say Klimova/Ponomarenko are even better than them).
@gk89110 жыл бұрын
SDoesNotKnow Yes, there is something to be said about their amazingly smooth edges, soft and fluid handholds, and amazing line and posture. Their skating skills were truly superlative. Dubova truly was an incredible technical coach. Many of her students demonstrate this (Ponomarenko, Klimova, Platov, Navka).
@officeaddict338 жыл бұрын
+Blazhevino - Yes, by the time they left Dubova their skills were already hard core and they already had a reputation for technical excellence.
