Huge benefit to a dual sport with quiet exhaust...IF nobody knows you are/where there they never get upset. I do the same with my KLX. Powerlines and railroads are my favorite, always lead somewhere void of people

Yeah that’s why part of me doesn’t want to do the exhaust upgrade. If you are 100 feet away from this bike in the woods you really can’t hear it.

Im in north ga as well. Have a 300l and a klx230rs, both need new tires soon i am planning on the same setup

The only thing I would recommend is to just not go with a larger/heavier size on the back, especially with the klx230. I went up a little bit to the 120/90r18 tire and it does have a little bit more of a sluggish feel on-road. If you only ride off-road, it probably won't matter. A sprocket changed helped me get the snap back.

They for posting these vids man. Enjoying them! I have a KLX250 and have been really enjoying it I have Kenda Trackmasters on my from and back and have been loving em. Sounds somewhat similar to yours based on feedback. You are good at riding too man. Stoked for the next vid. subbed

The 100-100 Trakmaster is the best rear tire for the KLX250, iv had 2 so far and getting another. Its lighter than the stock tire, motor really reacts to less weight back there.

I use Dunlop 606 front and back..I do more dirt road riding than I do pavement..they are a little noisy on pavement but they last a long time and they grip in the dirt

Sounds like an ideal setup. I want to try the 606 front and back and also I want to try out the Kenda trackmaster at some point.

USEFUL observations - not commonly available in YT videos. Succinct is mercifully NICE - Good editing. As a new bike explorer (at 72), I've been struggling to decide if any of the three minimum weight (~385 pounds) "Adventure" bikes (390 Adventure or G310GS) are worth the extra 75 pounds over the ~310 pound dual-sports (KLX or CRF 300) where one can't avoid some highways - to get to nice scenery. I've heard that the two major dual sports are like a leaf in the wind on highways; nobody seems to want to ride them more than a few Exits on highways.

Hi Mike, I think I could do 20-30 miles on the highway but I’ve only ever owned naked street bikes so my whole riding experience has been getting blown around a bit. I might have a higher tolerance to windy highway rides than most. I think it just depends on where you come from. If you come from a Harley road glide, you will certainly be nervous on a highway dual sport ride!

@@atlklx5168 Bottom line: I'm trying to figure out if for LONG highway rides, say between States, I need to have the extra ~75 pounds of a minimum-weight (~385 pounds) light-weight adventure bike ... vs. a 310-335 pound dual sport?
@atlklx5168
@atlklx5168 Жыл бұрын
@@discoveror9576 for your case I would think a larger adv bike would be more suitable with 500cc+

New to riding and to dual sports in general. When you're taking turns on the road, how do you lean? Do you prefer counter leaning every time or do you lean your body over? I have a KLX 300 too with the stock Dunlop tires on them still.
@atlklx5168
@atlklx5168 9 күн бұрын
@@originalpastaman5470 i definitely counter steer the dual sports at slower speeds on road and almost always off road. On road with the stock tires you can lean with the bike at higher speeds (40+ mph) and get more out of the bike. It’s no sports bike but it can be a great 70-80% bike on back roads. My 2 cents. Thanks for watching and stay safe.

I feel like it might be a gateway drug to enduro… maybe I’ll be making more videos like yours once I build my skill set but it would be hard to trade the klx in because it’s fun doing all kind of street stuff too.

100%. I’ve commuted to work a few times and it’s 25 miles one way, 50 miles total. I think that’s a little too much but 10 miles I would do almost everyday.

Are those shorter clutch and brake levers? If so, can I ask where you got them?
@atlklx5168

Yes, they are MZS levers from amazon - see link in the video description. They are cheap but adjustable and A LOT of people run them without issue.

@@atlklx5168 Thanks again! I had my local Kawi dealer do some stuff for me and I’d bought some Acerbis hand guards from them so I told them to go ahead and throw them on. They cut my levers because they wouldn’t fit, and they feel strange now. They had no clue when I asked to buy some shorty levers. I’ll order some through the link. 👍

Any comments about traction on wet roads? I am also in Georgia : )
@atlklx5168
@atlklx5168 Жыл бұрын
Hmmm no real experience there yet. I try to not be on wet roads but sometimes you can't help it I guess. I have another video where I'm on wet roads with the stock Dunlops and they were fine so I'm sure you could get by on these as well since hydroplaning is a non-issue and straight line traction would be about the same.
